    Nicely explained. But what about sideways market? Reason option selling is profitable majority of times is because options will lose value in a sideways market as well. This won’t happen in futures, correct?

  • @sanjaygoyal9916

    Very useful for overnight positions. Also for busy people, it is a surely a good protection as they cannot be on screen all the time.

  • @perspective11
    @perspective11 2 года назад +2

    This is theoretically good. Practically its loss making. Firstly in sideways market you will lose all the premium and your future will remain same. Secondly in volatile market for 5 days in favour of future the option premium would drastically reduce but when comes back reverse the option will not have enough premium to compensate. Lastly the tax implication will be huge bcz the turnover of Future is huge in respect of costing.

    I did this Hedging for last one year. Bottom line you will lose money in hedging. Why ? Every day one will pay Rs 200 to Rs 300 rent for holding the nearly ATM options. So Rs 40thousand to Rs Rs60thousand will be lost just in paying rent or theta. Also your break even will go up much higher. Much better option use SL and above all cut positions if SL is hit. Try to make your own strategies in trading view, and back test the entry and exit rules over different time frame. Avoid multiple lots initially. Please remember in Nifty futures we need to capture 1000 points move in a YEAR to get 50 percent return annually.

    If you see the probability of such hedges working on Opstra or Sensibull, its merely 32%. What happens is when you buy a call as a hedge, to make the profit, you have to first cover the cost of the call. If IV is very high like these days, means your breakeven will come when market will increase considerably. See the dotted line in the Sensibull. Why 32% or less, because its like buying options. You will make money if and only if market trends considerably in your anticipated direction. In other 2 cases, when market is sideways and market is going in opposite direction, you are bound to make loss. Yes the loss is fixed, but there is a very high probability that you will keep giving this loss to the market. I would rather buy Future, set stop loss at 10%. That will give me 50% probability of win and my profit will start immediately as the market moves and even if it goes in opposite direction, I will be out with same or less loss than a hedge. Nothing is that easy in stock market, or everyone would be a millionaire :D I will appreciate if you explain these risks, breakevens and % of winning clearly to your viewers.

    Hello Sir,
    I have couple of questions.
    The example you gave of selling future and buying a call is equivalent to just buying a ATM put option. So is it not advisable to just keep it simple?
    Also there is more taxes charged when we trade using futures so what is the advantage of the strategy that you suggested over buying just a put option?

    • @sunilsaranjame1523
      @sunilsaranjame1523 2 года назад +1

      Mehul, think of it as an insurance. Instead of having a naked Futures position overnight where you are exposed to an adverse gap opening on the next day, a Put or a Call can give you some shelter.

    • @LearningMarketsWithManish
      @LearningMarketsWithManish  2 года назад +4

      Thanks Sunil Ji for explaining.
      Mehul Ji- Yes buying ATM put is also a option, but when trade goes wrong you dont get time to think, As market is in consolidation phase, if will not have a specific directions and market will give reversals, so Hedging helps in buying time
