Thank you for this! I checked out the bobbin area and found a lot of thread dust as well. Cleaning that and adjusting the ring/timing as you had shown solved my issue! Thank you!!!
I borrowed my mom’s sewing machine and it broke today and I felt so bad and embarrassed! Tomorrow I’ll remove all the extra thread that’s stuck down there and hopefully this will repair it
Thank you so much for your video. My daughter and son are both making or modifying clothes for their upcoming "Anything but Black and White Masquerade" and our machine jammed. This seems to have fixed it, so you saved our week!
You Sir are what we call a LEGEND! I actually heard the teeth slipping when it happened, and with a slight push, your method got it back to where it needs to be... 🤝
Thank you so much for this video. I’m sorry about the frustration you went through to get to this point, but I very much appreciate your efforts. I was having this issue also. Thankfully my husband is also mechanically inclined and can see this is the problem on my model and is working to address it with the help of your explanation. I was so worried because it is such a challenge to find troubleshooting solutions. It would probably have been easier & more cost effective to get a new machine than the time, travel, & costs of getting it repaired all except for your clear and detailed video.
Thank you! Your description and walk through helped me fix my machine I would have never figured out it was the bobbin! I don’t have to buy a new one! I was sewing thick cloth with batting which got stuck although my needle never broke. Very helpful
Got a machine from a "friend". I guess she couldn't saw with it for the same reason. I'm also more of a mechanic than a sawing guru... and I took it apart and found to the same issue. Fixed now!!! ❤Yaaaay! Thank you!
You would think they would put an access panel to easily set / check timing on the bottom but I guess they sell more machines this way... Glad it helped!
Thank you! You saved my, well, my daughters singer, and me! I was borrowing it to fix work pants and this happened, my god i was stressed out, but hey, the universe gave us you, and man do you deliver🙏🏻 May you win the lottery✨🥳
Thank you so much! It appeared as though it was catching the thread but it was not doing it consistently. I just held the wheel and pulled the bobbin wheel for a bit. It wasn’t moving as much as it needed to so I moved the needle position in the direction it needed to go and it worked!!! I just have to be more careful when sewing heavy duty materials. It started when my needle got stuck in the seam and I forced the turning wheel. Never again!
Thank you so much for this video. Because of you I can continue sewing again without having to purchase a new machine. Great that you shared your knowledge.❤❤❤😊
I freaking did buy a new machine of this, I had the cheapest brother machine and bought the Singer heavy duty 4452, and again same shit, after using it three times , so, I'm soooooooo grateful for your video, thank you!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH you are the only person who has posted an actual solution for my issue. I could not adjust the timing gear at all and it turns out i had the belt slip like you said.
Very thankful for the video and I want to share two tips when removing the plate just "poke" the Right Top Corner and it tilt's up & the screws can be removed with the edge of a metal bobbin or a penny even with the machine needle . Thanks again for this video.
thank you for this video! i haven’t bought this machine yet, but have been watching reviews as to whether or not this is a good machine to get. so far ive mostly heard good things, and coming across this video gives me hope that even if I do encounter issues with the machine, there’ll be a way to fix it. so once again, thank you!
Thank you Thank you Thank you. This is exactly what happened to me. I have had it apart, cleaned, rethreaded yada yada, then I found you. So great. Thanks.
I had the same thing happen with the needle jamming in my Singer 4452. After taking the plate off, I noticed a small metal bracket in the lower right corner that was catching threads. I unscrewed the bracket and was able to make a slight adjustment because the holes were ever-so-slightly slotted. After making that adjustment, the machine now works perfectly.
You’re a genius. Thanks so much. I didn’t quite get how you rotated the casing so I just dove in and moved it best I could and it worked!! Thanks so much.
I just got my 4423 and it started seizing up an hour after pulling it from the box. I pulled all thread, bobbin, needle, shank, took the case off, disassembled the bobbin case, everything. It made me nuts! About to try this and see how it goes. Thanks!
Having the same problem, and I know almost nothing about sewing machines. I’m watching what this guy’s talking about and still have no clue. It’s crap that I buy a new machine with a problem right out of the box. Unreal! Thought I had it on some weird thread position I didn’t know about. Turns out, this is a common issue?? Ugh so annoyed
I had the same issue within the first few hours with my 4411,what you did to fix it won't last and it will happen again when another birds nest occurs. The calibration of the cam is off. Ultimately fixing it requires you to flip the machine over and remove the 3 large screws under the cam holding the cover on, your going to see a rod and gears. On the main gear there are 2 allen screws that you need to loosen then drop the needle all the way down and spin the cam around until the hook is really close to the needle like 3mm away, then tighten the allen screws good to hold that. (your going to flip the machine back and forth a few times to see and do this with the bobbin holder out) It seems like the more jams people have with these the more those screws loosen until calibration is thrown completely off (like mine). I almost returned it but it was working good after this. Guess this is what the shops mainly deal with and I think the screws are not as tight as they should be from the factory. Also this is where your going to eventually re-grease the main gear someday.
The Video was horrible advice, by doing this I sheared part of a gear and might now need a replacement gear, and to take apart the mechanism even more. What you wrote was right, the machine should be retimed by opening it up, don't use force! We have the 4423, the belt has teeth, so unless there are already screws loose, this might damage the machine. P.S. We fixed the gears teeth with a hot screwdriver roughly and then heated it directly and turned it though the other gear to smooth it out, that actually worked. Taking the timing belt of it's gear realining everything and putting it back on, fixed the whole machine.
Thank you so much! I wasn’t sure how to get the belt to slip as you were describing towards the end of the video, but just changing the needle position fixed it so that it would catch that loop.
Thank you so much! This was helpful. Especially when we didn't remember what it looked like before talking it apart to get ribon that got stuck in there so we looked back to see what it's supost to look like.
Dude this video saved. my. BUTT, seriously I couldn't find ANYTHING on my problem and I was really stressed then your popped up and it solved everything like MAGIC.
Yes and another reason it makes that wad of thread could be the take - up lever has become unthreaded. It is hard to see in these newer models when that happens because the lever is almost hidden. On my old machine (a Singer 860 that is over 40 years old) it sits out more to the front of the machine and I have to say I rarely ever have that issue with it!. These newer machines are certainly more prone to unthreading there (recently purchased a Singer heavy duty model). I was quite shocked that the rotating bobbin case was moved enough to cause the timing problem. Certainly will watch for this problem for the future (especially on my new one) and thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I'm having the same problem on a BRAND NEW machine!!! Sewed one seam with no trouble at all. Second side, everything jammed up! I'll try your method and hopefully it helps!
Like you, I was ready to buy a new machine - with the help of your descriptive video I was able to fix it and now have a fully functional machine again! THANKS!!!
This singer machine gives me so much trouble that I ended up buying a Juki TL 2000. Best decision I ever made .works like a charm never gives me trouble. Juki TL2000 or TL2010 QVP OR TL 2020 . Buy any of those and you will thank me for life .
Way to go... had the same GRIEF! 😩and I had my machine already opened like you... the same machine too... It was your showing what was suppose to be actually happening and the window thingy being off in the timing... so don't ask me how lol but after a few adjustments of the metal circle being readjusted and my 3rd needle... and it going up & down smoothly and clear of hitting the inner circles and bending... I saw that the thread was picking up on that little arm and wrapping around... like it's suppose to... then I closed everything up... had my scrap fabric to test it and WAAAALAAAAH... BACK IN BUSINESS!! AP!! and thank you for sharing your experience and how to fix demonstration!!🙃🤩🤗
I don’t know how to thank you, we , sewing machine’s users are so lucky that you exist and you made a usuful video like this, thank you sir thank you, thank you…… thank you……….than……… ou……….
Thanks for the video. The belt you're referring to, saying it's not really tight and you can make it slip, is really a belt with teeth and you have to bump it hard enough to skip over a tooth. It's not just a simple slip. I have a Singer 4423 as well.
Omg. I can’t believe I saw this video. I have the exact same problem identical. Only 3 hours of a pulled apart singer 4423. So I ordered another one because the repair guy wanted $150.00 min and 4 weeks min. So I bought another machine from Amazon. But I am going to try your way. And I’ll see if that works. I spent hours in this problem. lol. Thank you man I’ll let you know how I do.
Hi, thank you so much for uploading this video, we have been having this problem with the sewing machine for such a long time, today I decided to search on RUclips. I followed your instructions and fixed the problem. It now works so smoothly, I was able to adjust my dress. I will be doing more sewing 🤩😍
Thanks for the video. I actually found that you can remove the black casing that the bobbin sits in and line it up correctly to fix it. No screwdriver needed for that part!
So incredibly grateful for this video! I have the exact same model and was experiencing this problem and looked up a ton of videos with no solution! I finally got so fed up with this machine i bought a new model today and as i was looking up videos on my new singer M1000 i stumbled across your video and i cant wait to hop back on my old one and see if i can get it working again!!! 🎉 ❤
I thought I had a similar issue, but in my case, a "bird's nest" had lifted the black plastic bobbin holder out of place and all I needed to do was to loosen the screws holding it in place, re-seat it and it worked fine again.

Mine has been working flawlessly since I re timed it. Great tech advice for older machines tho, thank you for the input!
The Video was horrible advice, by doing this I sheared part of a gear and might now need a replacement gear, and to take apart the mechanism even more. Thank you so much! This was helpful. Especially when we didn't remember what it looked like before talking it apart to get ribon that got stuck in there so we looked back to see what it's supost to look like.
Thank you thank you thank you so much for this video that is so clear. I have fixed my machine thanks to you & would have had no idea otherwise.
You are an absolute legend sir. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for saving my Halloween costume sewing!
Dude this video saved. my. BUTT, seriously I couldn't find ANYTHING on my problem and I was really stressed then your popped up and it solved everything like MAGIC.
Thank you, thanks to you I fixed my sewing machine 😊
The explanations you provided were incredibly helpful! They saved me from having to take my Singer machine to the mechanic. Thanks a bunch!
Omg thank you!!!! You saved time and me.money.
Awesome!!! Hopefully this fixes it, I f’d up my wife’s machine trying to sew leather and same thing is happening. YOU’RE A GENIUS!
If you broke a needle, probably!
Thanks just found your video because I've been working on my singer all morning for this reason. Works great now
I'm having the same problem on a BRAND NEW machine!!! Sewed one seam with no trouble at all. Second side, everything jammed up! I'll try your method and hopefully it helps!
You are a saint thank you so much I was looking up tutorial after tutorial and this is the only one that fixed the issue I was having!
Like you, I was ready to buy a new machine - with the help of your descriptive video I was able to fix it and now have a fully functional machine again! THANKS!!!
Your video just saved me. Thanks man!
This singer machine gives me so much trouble that I ended up buying a Juki TL 2000. Best decision I ever made .works like a charm never gives me trouble. Juki TL2000 or TL2010 QVP OR TL 2020 . Buy any of those and you will thank me for life .
Literally just saved me after about 2 hrs of trying. Thanks sooooo much! I can finish my customers wig!
I've never seen that method of putting any machine back in time but hey if it works and doesn't damage the machine great it worked
Works like a charm!
Another life that you have saved!! Thank you so much
Hey Thanks! Was having trouble with mine and love videos like this that save a lot of headache. 👍👍
Glad it helped!
I had this same issue--- sewing thick material with an old needle.. going too fast, wrong stitch settings.. this is very helpful.
You’re very welcome I’m glad to help!!
I don’t know how to thank you, we , sewing machine’s users are so lucky that you exist and you made a usuful video like this, thank you sir thank you, thank you…… thank you……….than……… ou……….
You are very welcome! Hit the subscribe button for me
Thank you! My husband watched the video and fixed my problem. What helped the most was you showing how it’s supposed to look and work. 😅
Thank you, thought I had just wasted money, only worked for about 2 days .
Thanks for the video. The belt you're referring to, saying it's not really tight and you can make it slip, is really a belt with teeth and you have to bump it hard enough to skip over a tooth. It's not just a simple slip. I have a Singer 4423 as well.
You are a Fantastic explainer! Thanks for making this!
Thank you so much! I’m back to sewing thanks to you! 😀
Simple fix if it’s a clocking issue!
Hi, thank you so much for uploading this video, we have been having this problem with the sewing machine for such a long time, today I decided to search on RUclips. I followed your instructions and fixed the problem. It now works so smoothly, I was able to adjust my dress. I will be doing more sewing 🤩😍
Thank you for this video and you knowledge and patience to find your problem. You saved me a lot of money and frustration. Keep up the good works.
Thanks for the video. I actually found that you can remove the black casing that the bobbin sits in and line it up correctly to fix it. No screwdriver needed for that part!
Thanks for the helpful tip!
I have the M3220- I can’t get the bobbin case out to clean under it and the hand wheel is stuck!😢
Thank you! You save my machine from the sledgehammer ;-)
@@edwardebel7914 I know the feeling LOL! You’re very welcome
You saved me from a breakdown thank you for this video
😂
This advice fixed my machine! I referenced a second video to ascertain exactly how the needle eye and the hook should align.
may I ask what was the second video you referenced?
"Singer Heavy Duty, EASY fix" by The Sewing Doctor. It's for a different problem, but it shows the alignment well.
Thank you so much. We spent 3 hours - should have watched your video sooner. Thanks again
I cant thank you enough, omg my machine drove me insaaane.. i just bought it so it wasnt a great start but you helped a lot!! I almost sent it back 😩
I thought I had a similar issue, but in my case, a "bird's nest" had lifted the black plastic bobbin holder out of place and all I needed to do was to loosen the screws holding it in place, re-seat it and it worked fine again.
Thank you sooo much ❤❤❤❤❤❤!!! I literally cried 😢
Your actually doing god work for us! Thank you it’s been driving me mad and I don’t feel stupid now!!!!
Ha! Thanks, glad it got you fixed up.
