Before becoming WFPB I would get really annoyed if a meal was not "perfect" (right temperature, right ripeness, right texture, right amount of salt, etc.) and would eat again to compensate, which is crazy. Now if one meal is disappointing I just move on, it's OK and just plan to do better next time, but don't give it a lot of thought. I don't graze or snack between meals, food is no longer the centre of my life. If I'm hungry I eat, sometimes I might have lunch an hour early if I'm really hungry, which is no big deal, but usually I eat at the same times. I have a good selection of books I get lost in to relax, or I go for a walk around the park or spend time with my companion cat, or get together with a friend or do something creative (you don't have to be good at it!), I no longer resort to food and I never thought this was possible as I had been a binge-eater for decades, since age 12. I want to let other people know that you CAN overcome your disordered/emotional eating and eating disorders (which I also suffered from) on a whole plant food diet for life. If you're watching this video you're already in the right place.

Interesting concept. I used to be an emotional eater and I still have a lot of the problems I experienced before becoming WFPB (sadly many are out of my control). This healthy lifestyle may not solve all your problems but once your body and brain get enough healthy whole plant food and your tummy is full, cravings do gradually disappear. It's a long process but 3 years in, I can honestly say I have separated feeding from feelings, I no longer comfort-eat (or discomfort-eat, as I used to call it), I stop when I'm full, I'm no longer "greedy" and obsessed with food and gradually everything is getting better, my ability to focus, my social skills, my mood and positivity, the way I dress. So while I agree that eating whole food vegan does not solve all your problems, just the fact of becoming slim, looking good in clothes, not being food-obsessed, etc. are a fantastic start and it gets better the longer you sustain this lifestyle so keep going everyone or get started if you haven't yet! Thank you Ry, I always look forward to your quality output, you are the best!

Thank you for this video Ryan! I needed this encouragement on how to stop disordered/binge eating. I am now hopeful I can train my brain to stop.

Ryan, I am AM Patti and PM Patti. AM me plans, works out, eats a good breakfast and lunch, but PM Patti tosses all my morning wisdom to the wind and thinks she deserves chips. She also thinks a beer is a fitting reward after a hike. I’ve been trying to make AM Patti take on the afternoon shift…
I will try using these strategies to fire afternoon, self-sabotaging Patti.
