    I just upgraded from Sumitomo HTR Z III's to PS4S on my Unitronic stage 1+ GTI and it's night and day. The pilot sports 4 is an incredible tire. It's quiet, grips amazingly, and is so comfortable. Highly recommend grabbing a set next time they are on sale!

    Nice and honest review! Have been running the Conti SportContact 5 on my GTI, good tire but I will try the Michelin Pilot 4s next, read a lot of good reviews about them. Am also running the Nogaros for the summer, and the original 17 inch (!) Brooklyns with the Conti Wintercontact 5 (compulsory to have genuine snow tire over here in Germany, all-seasons not allowed here, too much of a comprise..).

    I've been watching your videos since I found your channel with your three year ownership update videos. They have been beyond helpful, and I'm elated that I am going to be picking up a 2017 GTI Sport 6MT with LP & PP in Carbon Steel Gray, with 37K miles, one owner, no damage/accidents, that looks absolutely perfect. I went and inspected the car and put a deposit on it and will be picking it up next week. The car was on OEM Pirelli tires that I presume were the original set as they are worn out. Already ordered a set of Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ thanks to a sale Costco was having.
    I am probably going to keep the car stock completely stock for about a year, then I will most likely go Stage 2 with EQT's tunes for COBB, get a downpipe and intake, lower the car with some springs, and maybe get some lighter wheels with summer tires or refinish the Nogaros in a different color like you. I'd probably also get some sort of aftermarket dogbone mount solution as many recommend, and perhaps the Helix system.
    I'm very excited to start my journey with this car, as it's my first cool car haha.

    Same experience with the Falken Azenis. Loved them, grips and handles well just doesn't last long. On General Gmax Rs now, i would say it's close to FA but lasts longer. Haven't really tried the Indys, was going to but found out it's tad expensive than the Gmax. Thank you for sharing your experience with your set up. Thank you so much :-) I was thinking about those firehawks but living in Michigan we have cooler wet days during the summer sometimes. Good information and I just quizzed my friend about the pilots and he said he uses pilot super sports but any of them are great!

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 года назад +1

      NZ - I doubt a "cooler wet day" in the summer will hurt the Firehawks. I've driven mine in the 20's without too much of an issue. They warm-up to around 60-70 once the steel belts are exercised a bit. At 13 degrees, my tires still warmed to 53 degrees and still felt adequate. I'm sure that's not ideal, but they didn't seem to harden-up the way a set of Azenis or RE-71Rs would have. However, up there, The Firehawks certainly would be a summer-only tire.

    • @NoZenith
      @NoZenith 4 года назад

      @@StealthGTI thanks for that extra bit of insight. I know that tires warm up and I know that summer Tires tend to get too hard and winter tires tend to get too soft when they're not in their designated season but I didn't realize how much the temp can increase in some tires.

    Have you considered/ Why haven't you tried 235/40R18s? I love the michelins (ran them on old '08 BMW 135i) and just got them for my GTI in stock size and wish I would have purchased the 235s. The only downsides I can think of are cost and maybe road noise and slightly worse snow traction. The dealership had cheap 235s on it originally and I hadn't noticed but they definitely filled out the wheel well much better.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 года назад +1

      I have considered them. In addition to what you present, which are not terrible concerns for me, would be minor recalibration requirement for the odometer/speedometer and increased weight/drag, which would impact MPGs and acceleration to a small degree. If you look closely, you'll notice that the Michelin is a tad wider than the Firestone. With the narrower Firestone, I'd be inclined to get a 235/40R18 to give the wheel a little protection. Did you hear the metal-to-metal contact when I set the Firestone wheel back on the "table?" That was from the back of the wheel tapping the edge of my table. The tire and the wheel are about the same width; so, there is no protection for the wheel. That's not a problem with the Michelin because it's wider with a protective "lip" along the rim. So, the width of the 225/40R18 Michelin is perfect, and so might be the 235/40R18, with respect to protecting the wheel from accidents. That's just my casual observation. Thanks for visiting.

    I like your wheels so much more than my 2018 7.5 GTI MT. Gunmetal gray is nice! I subscribed! I live in central Florida. My first GTI. I love it! I want to get a tune. Not sure If I should wait until the warranty is done.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 года назад

      Thanks for the sub! Whether to wait for the warranty to expire or start modding first depends on the length of your warranty and how much you drive your car. I guess your pocketbook and tolerance for BS is a factor, too. My warranty was done in two years due to high mileage. So, I started modding relatively early, work on my car at home, or take it to a specialty shop. My wife's 2018 Jetta is driven just 6000 miles per year. It will be under warranty for the entire six year warranty period. Therefore, her car will stay stock and be serviced by the dealer. So far, that's only been for annual oil changes. :-) What do you think is right for you?

    18" wheels really have no business on the street, particularly if you live in a place with crummy roads. I'm tired of buying new wheels when they are bent beyond the ability to repair. If I had to do it over again I would have pulled my 18's off when I got my GTI and put on a set of 17" BBS SR in gunmetal or silver. Better looking wheel, stronger by design, a lot less likely to take damage, and the considerably lighter weight is like getting free horsepower and a big brake kit installed.

    • @StealthGTI
      @StealthGTI  4 года назад +2

      I must live with good roads, though many local enthusiasts would disagree. I bent two wheels on a crater in the road a couple years ago. They straightened just fine and I continue to drive on them. I considered the SRs. But, at the time, no one could confirm that they'd fit over the PP brakes. Oh, well. I'm happy with what I'm running now. Thanks for visiting.

      Your ride won't really get much softer but the "crashing" through imperfections is lessened if you go for 17in Wheels over the stock 18 inch wheels. I am a rather lean person and I have trouble with my seats being too firm. I believe that is part of the issue with many people. When I picked my car up in Georgia and drove back to Michigan, it initially fit like a glove just like the cars I test drove and fell in love with... but I couldn't go more than a couple hours before my ass was hurting and getting numb. I had to sit on a sweater, shifting my weight, putting a fist under my thigh, whatever I could do to keep driving then went and bought a thin little cushion for my driver seat haha. I'm also tall and appreciate the lumbar support so I can't have a very thick cushion because then the lumbar support is too low/ineffective. The seats being too firm is really my only complaint about the Mk7.5 but driving down to my grandma's for hours away or regular hour and a half trips to nearby cities are totally fine with just a thin dining room chair foam pad from Ikea. GAME CHANGER! I did get the Autobahn and I feel like the leather seats in my car are slightly more firm than the stock plaid as well. That could be the leather itself. On a long cruise it is Pleasant to have DCC. I have very little experience in the GTI without the DCC so perhaps that's the difference between our cars because Comfort mode is noticeably softer than sport mode and I understand the base GTI has slightly firmer than my "normal" setting but not as firm is my "sport" suspension setting 🤷‍♂️

    • @MV-qm9ne

      @@StealthGTI The tire manufacturer's value on the tire sidewall is the maximum the tire can be inflated to safely. Increasing tire pressure will improve tire life mostly and turn-in responsiveness somewhat, but there are trade-offs to doing this.

      @@Vosser - I think it's close. Some tires are flush with my 18x7.5" stockers. So, I'm inclined to think 8.5" is getting to the point of stretch, but not to hazardous amounts. The Tire Rack says that 225/40R18 will fit on as wide as a 9" wheel. But I don't think I'd go that far.
