You’d think the speed running scene was optimized and we knew what was the best strategy for anything, we were wrong. All hail the snowman grind. Also the fact that gunlance is the weapon for the job is perfect.
So after playing with this. I found the best gunlance is the taroth buster sleep. You can max it out to get a whopping 990 sleep on it (on top of it being a normal 7 ). With just one it has so far put any monster i have tried it with in about 5 to 8 hits (without using apothecary mantle). Meaning with 4 people running this gunlance and a apothecary mantle, you should be able to put any monster to sleep instantly. And it should add an extra 30,000 damage as well. With bombardier 5 thats 161,356 (almost 1 shotting the fatalis territory)
I guess I'll have to farm custom upgrade materials again 🙃

Thank you for making this guide! I've adored this tactic ever since I saw your Vaal Hazak run. I use it all the time in solo casually, ususlly to wake up a sleeping monster once they retreat to their lair. Any monster with a 12 second trip is also enough time for a 2 bomb wyrmstake cannon. Something else that helped me learn the trick early on is that the player model will look like they're swinging the gunlance in random directions while shelling, even when firing straight ahead. I initially thought these motions needed aim correction, but they don't. After the backhop, the only input needed is shell, shell, shell, kaboom!
Regarding the model, Kushala is the most consistent for landing the trick, but there are several models that work at varying evade extender levels. This is great for folks who want to play casually or play through a new character with gunlance. I use the White Knight model for endgame content, since it which works well enough with evade extender 3. It's not suitable for speedruns though, because there's some angles where it will fail while the Kushala model will succeed.

Fatalis GL works pretty well for this too in my experience
you just use the layered weapon for kushala, only the model matters for the length part

I don’t understand why TA rules can’t use at least slingers.
I've been using this exploit myself for a while now and it's super fun. You can do it with other GL models, but Kushala's is 100% best for it. Great video for sure! Time to send this to all my friends who are curious about this. Wish this exploit had a better name though, I've always called it "Stake Duplication" which is more accurate and way cooler than the "Snowman Glitch", hahah.

What other gunlance s are good for it? Is raging brachy a do able with it?
@@hyrda892 Raging Brachy has the absolute worst GL model. You should hop in the training area and spam stakes with various models, especially swapping from Kushala directly to Raging. The difference is genuinely insane
I understand the sake for doing this as a speedrun strat, but I genuinely don’t understand how someone can find this fun. I really like gunlance but this is just ridiculous.

You mentioned doing it solo.
But how are you supposed to put a monster to sleep when youre alone and have to use the kushala gunlance?
As far as i know, trying to add sleep via decorations wont work.
And i know you can use traps for some monsters but monsters like fatalis, you cant.
So how do i put fatalis to sleep while being alone?
You can use a gun and swap back at camp, or a sleep palico. But any form of cc works so u can use traps for monsters or headbreaks on fatalist. Or balista knockdowns. But definitly trickier than having a gunner with you

For anyone who can't get it to work at all/consistently:
Dragonseal Gunlance I and Dragonseal Gunlance II make it MUCH more consistent for me. With the armour skills and the 1-player setup in the video I can get it EVERY time. (These GL are via the Dragonbone Tree)
But with the Kushala Daora GL I have only been able to do it 1 time. Maybe it's because I have the "Daora's Brigia". Not the "Icesteel Gunlance" (These GL are via the Blacksteel Tree)
PS: I could be doing something wrong :P - Also my tests have been in the training room ONLY so far. Might change the result.
hmmm is it fixed?? just tried in the training arena and it just added 3extra attacks not multiplied by 3
What's the purpose of the Safi armor? Does the set bonus the damage, is it used to keep HP in heroics or just the best armor that isn't fatalis since you wouldn't want the Fatalis set bonus?
I'm pretty sure its because Safi can have almost 100% Resentment uptime, while Challenger 7 with Fatalis doesn't work when the monster sleeps.
You got it, The most beneficial thing is that it keep you in heroics range without neededing to bomb yourself. Besides of that just the 25raw from resentment. Meanwhile 4p fatalis doesnt benefit you at all and Frostcraft does not apply to wyrmstake

Yeah. Rathian GL with only evade extender 2 has been really reliable for me

yeah we use Kushala layered and Fatalis gunlance since it has the Highest raw. A few more ''work'' as some comments added but Kushala is by far the best and most consistent option.

About to go farm for the Kush layered weapon to confirm, but did some testing on the Pickle skin and it seems it might be slightly shorter. I had to take a small step forward with EE3 for the stake to proc both bombs + the snowman in the training room. Still, longer than the Fatalis skin and many others which requires you to use EE2 instead.
Update: Kush is for sure longer. The D. Jho skin is a decent alternative for those that haven't gotten the kush skin and want to use EE3 instead of 2. It's worth getting the Kush skins as it's much more consistent.

I knew there was a reason I haven't seen any runs on Rise.
I really have to try hard to enjoy it myself. I'm not very good at Rise, and I try to play like I would in world (not wirebug spam/counter spam) and it isn't very rewarding for me.

Snowmen are from the multi-day events (like the Appreciation festival). Completing event research quests gives a few snowmen and you can trade event tickets for 10 snowmen each at the melder.

Yeah of course, the assassins mantle just gives extra 50% damage. so for example instead a full burst of 30.000 you would do 20.000!
this works with EE2 + Barioth Layered skin too. Been using it for a while now.

Yes the meolotov. Highest status application happens at level 4 because it has no other tools than just attacking. the coral has some decent application which is what i use solo.

Did they patch this on pc? I can get 62 hits, but no repeated explosions. I get like 40 extra hits from the wyrmstake "countdown ticks"...but I'm not using thorn pods. (Are those on every map?)
If u have 4 objects 62 hits sound about right. What do you mean with repeated explosions? A wyrmstake is 15 hits for each objects. And no unforrunatly not all maps or monsters drop thorn poss
@@IDeVaste I only use a snowman and 2 lbb. I've seen videos where there are what look like 3 or 4 consecutive barrel bomb explosions over the course of like 1 1/2 seconds instead of 1 big explosion. Looks like something Michael Bay directed.

Mh6 can't come soon enough, I didn't even know snowmens were useful but they were silly so I liked using em. Rise doesn't have any of that stuff, although they do have dogs so that's sick. Dogs in mh6 Capcom, maybe not to ride though

Since it doesn't crit max out Raw skills like attackboost/resentment/Heroics, in addition bombardier for bomb damage. 3 Safi 2 Fatty pieces, but you can watch one of our runs linked in description, builds shown at end.

i use the kushala gl, ee3, put the bomb n snowman, hop back n as soon as i shell, the bomb explodes bcs my weapon touch it, im still confused about how to do it properly, anyone can help? (i havent reach fatalis yet so im using the actual kushala gl not the layered, is it different?)
I'm facing the same problem, have you found a solution yet? I think it's because kushala's gunlance is a long shelling type gunlance which has increase range on the shelling.
Long gunlance has a longer range on the shells which will cause this to happen. You're going to have to use a different shelling type and layer the Kushala GL on top.
Fatalis is best overall because of insane raw and Normal 7, but if you can't get that you can use another Normal 7 or Wide 7 GL like Safi with normal shelling 2 awakening, Taroth Buster Sleep, Stygian Zinogre, etc.

Evasion mantle which boosts youre damage by 30% would be the closest to it. Unfortunatly you can only obtain assasins on PC via saveediting since capcom removed the quest. (Probably ubisoft partnership ran out)

Hbg solo fastest is 3:42 or so, without the GL exploit you need like 7 minutes probably

i shared this playstyle to telling players GL is the strongest DPS weapon in MHW about 5 years ago in MHW FB Group,, stop playing since about it.. in FB we disscused about this build n some ppl demanded a video about it,, but at the time, there isnt many videos of MHW build on internet,, funa is not the 1st to use it solo, but mybe he is the 1st to upload it on youtube, but im glad now there is many videos to proof that thesis..
