My husband and I separate our laundry. He does his, I do mine. Towels, sheets, and kids clothes- we both do.
hi Brooke ! Do you think you would ever share how you split apartment finances with your boyfriend? I totally get it if it’s too personal, but my boyfriend owns his apartment too and we’re not sure how to split the expenses/mortgage and would love to hear any advice you have! Xx
Don't over think the chores stuff, and laundry. My partner and I delegate chores based on strength. I'm generally the more hyper clean one, and can clean our house easily within an hour. But the "deeper clean" chores are then left to him, deep clean the shower, help out with laundry, taking the bins out etc. So just find your groove without expectation and it'll become apparent what jobs suit each of your strengths.

Even though it's annoying, the way you're sealing your counters is SO much healthier than the traditional sealers. It can be one of the most toxic things in your home. I'm an interior designer and I love watching you set up your place!! So exciting 😊love the vlogs
We have three loads; mine, his, and towels. Mainly because he goes through clothes way faster than me, becsuse he sweats more in general and exercises more often. He likes to do many loads in a row in one day, while I like doing laundry once the basket is full.
I also highly recommend having separate bathrooms. Especially if you guys have different levels or tolerance of cleanliness.
The new apartment is so beautiful! Its great to see you so happy and excited! Don't know how its done in NYC, but here, if you have a new build home/condo there is a builder's warranty. So they fix their issues, we even have a 1 year inspection.
If you want to change your layout, they have tv wall mounts that have full motion. You can have the tv flush against the wall across from the island, and if you put your couch where the tv is now, when you want to watch from the couch, you can pull it out away from the wall, then turn it to face the couch straight on.
Also, a murphy bed buildout in the spare room, is an option. A bed for guests when you need it and more storage for linens/clothes or a vanity/desk.
Majority of the time we do our own laundry, but sometimes we’ll combine or fold each other’s clothes if someone has more free time, etc. 😊
We do laundry separately! No particular reason for that but we just own it as our own task and, of course, help each other here and there! I guess I’d just rather dig through my own dirty clothes if I need a specific bra or something, vs also sifting through his workout clothes etc Lol

It’s definitely easier to just keep the laundry together! Reduces the loads you have to do too!
For my boyfriend and I, it’s easier for us to do laundry all in one go with one or two loads rather than separate! I’m a weirdo about laundry so I typically do it which I don’t mind! You’ll just have to find what works for you and Ben! Every couple is different!
my fiancé and i have always washed our clothes together, we have a hamper with 3 baskets. 1 is workout/clothes not being dried, 1 is clothes that can be dried and the last one is towels/sheets. I do all the laundry and he is in charge of folding it and putting it away. Find what works for you guys is the best advice! I’m not good at folding so that’s why he’s in charge of that, I’m good at cooking so I cook and he cleans all the dishes. Definitely have a conversation about all chores to see what works for you both 🫶🏼

Moving in with my man this summer -- definitely doing laundry separate. He's a blue collar guy, dirt and grease ain't coming anywhere near my clothes
My husband and I keep all laundry together - we have different preferences on chores we prefer doing and some weeks are different than others with laundry, dishes, vacuuming, etc
But we definitely view it all as a team effort and not as a “roommate” type view

I think it just depends on lifestyle honestly! My husband and I use one hamper (less clutter). A pile of laundry bothers me more, so I tend to do it more often!

I think if u put the couch on the wall where you have the tv and put the tv on a wall mount swivel so u can still watch while in the kitchen or turn the tv to face the couch when you are laying. This will keep the dining area and couch area nice and open!
My husband and I put our clothes in the same laundry hamper. We alternate on who does the laundry. It works for us. I bought a hamper, which is similar to yours but has 3 baskets, that way there is one for whites, darks and towels.

Do your own laundry!
My husband and I do laundry together! We separate towels, sheets, and blankets into their own loads. I found a 3-section hamper on Amazon so one section is our clothes, one is towels, and one is for dry cleaning. Every relationship is different, but we each have our designated chores. For example, I don’t ever clean the bathroom bc that’s “his” job. And I take care of all the laundry/taking out the dry cleaning. Try something out, and if it doesn’t work, just adjust! We gave ourselves like a 3 week “trial period” and then had a check-in at the end to see if we wanted to change anything

All separate laundry in my house- including our son. So much easier IMO because we don’t have to separate it when it’s time to fold and put away.

As a fellow first time home owner, even if certain things break, you should have a home warranty that covers things that break within the first year. Not sure if that applies in New York or apartment spaces tho.

When we moved in together, we had everything in one bin and washed everything together, but we did laundry at my dad’s house when we went over for dinner every weekend. We each put our own stuff away after. Now that we’re married with kids and I’m a SAHM I do all the laundry stuff myself.

Separate laundry because I have more delicate cycle and hang dry items and he is afraid to ruin them. He also won’t put anything away for days and days and I want it all organized immediately so separate is the way to go for us.
I do my laundry with my husband. We do have 2 separate baskets tho 1 for things that go in the dryer the other hang dry
my fiancé and I share a hamper and do our laundry at the same time, so if someone notices the hamper getting full they throw in a load. We did have to take time to inform each other of any specific needs with laundry (shirts that have to be hung to dry, pants that can't be washed with hot water, stuff like that).

Separate bins but do loads together since a lot of the time we don’t have enough clothes on our own to justify running a wash. Separate bins allows us to keep track of delicates, etc. (we also have separate closets so it makes more sense)
My partner and I use a dirty and clean bin, but we combine our clothes together! The person who has a less busy schedule (usually per week) is in charge of doing the laundry. Any specialty items I'll typically handle to make sure they're taken care of properly!
We combine laundry in one basket and I just do it all since I work from home :,) I don’t mind though because he does all the dishes. You’ll find what works for you! 🙌🏼

My boyfriend and I have very different schedules (he works in sports and I work 9-5) so we keep our laundry separate! Some days he won’t have work until 1pm and doesn’t have a set schedule so he does his own laundry whenever he has time! Hope this helped 🫶🏻

Re: Combining your laundry -- He might have to wash his med school/hospital laundry in HOT water, so maybe separate laundry is the way to go.

My husband does all the laundry. We have certain chores that we each just own.
We do our laundry separately, but there are times if we both just have a few things to wash we will put them in together! Mostly so it separately bc I always have so much 😅
We have our own hampers and do our own laundry 🤷🏻♀️ I prefer only doing it once a week (or less) and we would be way overloading our washer with all of it. Plus I just really do not trust him to hang dry the right things, separate colors, etc. That might change once we have kids that we have to do laundry for, but for now why add more work for myself ya know

Couple’s Laundry: just do it all together. We typically split jobs and he washes and dries and I put away. And by put away I sort it and then get too lazy to put it away so it sits on the bed for a couple days on my side by my feet because I’m short and it doesn’t bug me. But it buuugs him. lol

My bf and I have an arrangement where he does the dishes and I do the laundry (bc I hate dishes and he hates laundry). I really think he gets the short end of the stick, but every time I talk to him about it, he seems happy with the arrangement. There are no rules; you’ll figure out what works for y’all as a couple
IF you agree to take turns with the laundry, share a basket. If your partner is not timely with doing laundry, SEPARATE. Otherwise this could cause some fights lol at least in my relationship lol

Putting the tv on that other wall is fine. It would have been wasted space because of the original position. At most you could have put a piece of art in the new wall. The water system is something many Van lifers have in their tiny homes on wheels. It’s a work in progress do don’t stress too much.
Establish that you each do your own laundry, with the option to always do it together as needed. Even the best partner can become dependent if as you say, “I’m doing mine so why not just do theirs too.”
