You might say I love Deer and Giraffe poses. Yes, really. I love that they work internal and external rotation, that you can fold forward, lean back, twist, and stretch laterally. They have SO much going on. However, not everyone shares my enthusiasm for these poses : ) In this tutorial we break it down and work with making this pose our own. Grab some props and let's play!

This helped me a lot. I’ve been doing videos that call for deer pose but the instructions weren’t clear. Now I get it!

very interesting about inward/outward rotation preferences... I always thought I was "not a yogi" because I prefer inward friendly meditation poses. thanks so much for the whole video.

Me too! Both my daughter and I have inward rotation so we LOVE any inward seat as well and find poses such as Saddle/Supta Virasana much easier than say - half lotus or even Square/Firelog pose. It’s amazing to explore the uniqueness of our bodies and our unique bone development. Thank you for joining me today and have a great weekend! Peace, Aprille

Aprille I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your tutorials. Nothing like really explaining so we can be safe in our postures. When I first started doing this pose with you, wasn’t my favorite. Now I get it. I get a little discomfort in the inside of knee when that leg points to the back. Now I know to roll a little towel behind it to help with compression. Thank you - I’ll say it again that I LOVE these tutorials. Really get to learn the pose.

Thank you Denise! I think tutorials are one of the best ways to help find "your" pose which will ultimately deepen your practice overall! Glad you enjoyed these tips and they helped some and maybe this pose will become one of your favs! Have a great day and big hugs! Peace, Aprille

This is very helpful. I am new to teaching Yin and noticed that people tend to lean over. The cue to plant the hands where you indicate is very helpful. Also, the giraffe variation.

Thank you for this explanation! Very helpful. I am wondering if you are familiar with the way I was taught deer pose and/or if you have any opinions on it:
-Start seated with soles of feet on floor and mats width distance
-let both knees fall to left
-circle right arm to meet your left, walk finger tips to point toward back of mat
-option to stay lifted on hands, lay on bolster, or on forearms, maybe looking toward your right foot
-so your hips end up square to your left and shoulders square to the floor
I've always felt like this was a nice version of a twist with different relationship to gravity than usual, and adding an internal hip rotation. I was never told to keep both hips grounded and just want to make sure I'm not doing anything thats damaging long term!
Thank you so much!!! You're a fantastic teacher

I use the version you are referring to as a Restorative Pose more often and to some it might be a version of Deer (many opinions vary on this in Yin Yoga). However, the Deer I offer is based on Bernie Clark's and Sarah Power's versions as presented in training and on www.yinyoga.com. You should use whatever version feels best for you though and explore different ones to see where and how you feel it differently. Thanks for joining me and have a great day! Peace, Aprille

Yes. :) my practice is primarily yin. It agrees best with me. Most beneficial.

Also, how would u recommend building up to crow and dragonfly? Surely there are poses that would help u work up to them? ;) for flexibility, strength, balance.

    • @YogaRangerStudio
      @YogaRangerStudio  5 лет назад +1

Crow and dragonfly are a lot about core work. Most people assume its arms and to some degree it is but its the core lifting you up and holding you there as you balance. So, I would focus on lots of core strengthening...I have 3 videos that are core focused (although its in all of my flows) and they include deeper core work that will help. As for flexibility, Yin is definitely a great choice here. Dragon poses, dragonfly (wide straddle), twisted roots for upper back opening, tadpole and frog for deep opening in inner legs. Hope this helps! You can also do crow on the floor with feet up for core building (in one of my videos) that is super challenging. Enjoy!

Thanks, i plan to check out your other vids just hadn’t had a chance yet. Super excited u have a lot of core strength ones :))
