I agree 200%. Not to make them concert musicians but to develop different parts of their brain. It's just like we all need to compete on a sports team at one point in our life and take Algebra III even if the homework makes us cry. A well developed brain creates a well developed Renaissance person.

I've been playing (trying) the keyboard since 1984. I'm now 76 and there is not one song I can play without having the music in front of me ... and I still mess up!!! But I enjoy trying to play!! I hope this little one never quits! She has talent!

My childhood neighbors has a little girl when I was six or seven and by the time she was two she was playing a 1/64 th violin made by her own great grandfather. She played until her early twenties and then taught other children as well.

My sister said the the problem is they get to a stage when they feel they should be able to play something that you would call a tune but can't and so they want to give up but if you persevere one day it all starts to come together and they really start enjoying what they are doing. My sister said she knew her daughter was over that hump when she heard her playing a tune while practising at home. By age 14 she was playing in places as far away as Verona with the Junior Symphonia (we live in the UK) and now owns a recorder that cost a few thousand pounds.
