What is Section 230? Inside the legislation protecting social media:
The Communications Decency Act was established as Title V of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, right as the internet was growing and expanding amid the first big tech boom of the 1990s. It was initially created to regulate pornographic material on the internet.
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rep. Christopher Cox (R-CA) created Section 230 within the Communications Decency Act to protect speech on the internet.
Long before social networking, Section 230 was meant to cover sites like news outlets with comment sections, online forums, and other websites where people could contribute their thoughts. Without Section 230, most of the sites we use today - including Google and Facebook - would not exist as we know them.
Section 230 says: “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.”
The law protects websites from being liable if one of their users posts something illegal or controversial, so you can’t sue Twitter for a tweet someone posted, for example.
Section 230: is a key LEGAL SHEILD for these social media companies. Once you suppress voices that do not break the user content agreement, these companies no longer qualify as existing within the law of Section 230. They have become a publisher and can be sued for violating free speech.
The court decision that started it all had to do with some online posts about a company called Stratton Oakmont. On one finance-themed bulletin board, someone had accused the investment firm of fraud.
Years later, Stratton Oakmont's crimes would be turned into a Hollywood film, The Wolf of Wall Street. But in 1994, the firm called the accusations libel and wanted to sue. But because it was the Internet, the posts were anonymous. So instead, the firm sued Prodigy, the online service that hosted the bulletin board.
Prodigy argued it couldn't be responsible for a user's post - like a library, it could not liable for what's inside its books. Or, in now-familiar terms: It's a platform, not a publisher.
The court disagreed, but for an unexpected reason: Prodigy moderated posts, cleaning up foul language. And because of that, the court treated Prodigy like a newspaper liable for its articles.
When these companies limit who can speak, they have become a publisher.
But Leftist cult members don't care, they want to limit all speech that they weren't brainwashed with in Leftism indoctrination camp.
These far-left anti-American news and social media Giant's must be taken down! They are suppressing the truth, banning free speech, and portraying everyone who has a different worldview than theirs as a conspiracy theorist. Unfortunately this law is going to be shut down because it violates several constitutional amendments, several Federal protections given to companies. All the power that Republicans have been giving large corporations is now being turned against them, and all they can do is sit there and whine. And you can bet this law, will be turned against them too. The moment that a conservative company with any sort of website allowing comments, will be the target of this law. Republicans don't have the lack of thinking things through and it often bites them in the ass.

Just one more reason that the talents and convictions of Mr. DeSantis should blossom into the DeSantis roadshow with the destination in mind that serves the greater good. Nothing is more integral than having a platform that welcomes dissent and debate on the issues most impacting to the public at large.
