WBC has been known to spend tens of thousands to make a belt, which is far more than the 300 dollar ones made in other organizations.

The reason behind this is because gold is a soft and maleable element. On a warm day a solid gold belt will easily bend by gripping it firmly. And that's just not ethical for boxers who have extremely stable and strong hands now is it?

Gold "plated", nothing is made of 100% gold these days as it's too malleable. Solid gold are often mixed with other metal alloys for strengthening.
