    it's really handy to fish with an ultralight short rod like this especially for underhand casting near overhanging logs and things hanging from the side of the riverbank

    Reasons its a spotted bass:
    bold lateral line that is broken towards the tail
    black spots on the belly
    the two dorsal fins are connected
    the lip doesn't extend past the eye

    Another awesome video Fish Hawk. I loved the fall colors. That tiny creek reminds me of the small coastal stream I fish for winter steelhead. Lots of woody debris that create excellent holding water. My son and I just walk the bank (and elk trails) crossing the stream where we can and fish the deeper pockets between the shallow riffles. Marabou jigs and beads are very effective. I hooked my very first winter steelhead on this stream in 1974. Keep the awesome videos coming. The underwater releases are spectacular.

    Best way to tell if they’re spotted bass is if the have a rough spot on the tongue. If it does then it’s a spotted bass. If not then it’s a largemouth.

    Yes that was a fallfish at 10:16. Large silver scales with dark leading edge, white belly, and no sucker lips. Their flesh is tasty firm flaky white by the way, they hit any bait readily even surface lures, fight well, travel in schools, can be found in clean water lakes ponds rivers and streams, and no limits on size or number here in NY. Like sunfish used to be. My best is a 14 incher, but the NYS record is 3 lb 9 oz.

    Okay first off beautiful spot to fish at. The underwater footage is amazing. Great video. One small question, how many lures do you loose to snags? When fishing with very lite line it hurts to lose those tiny lures. But hey Awesome video.

    • @FishHawk
      @FishHawk  3 года назад +1

      Didn’t lose any lures on this trip. But did get snagged a few times. I just waded out to the snag and got it loose. Stream wasn’t very deep so I could reach all the snags. Larger creeks and rivers that isn’t always possible.

    So I have a hole near my home that’s been holding roughly 50 or more big browns and they’ve been there for a couple weeks. This seems odd, concidering you said browns are territorial. Any reason why they are staying stacked up in this one hole??

    To identify a spot from a largemouth, rub the tongue. Spots have a rough tongue that is actually a tooth patch, largemouths have a smooth tongue. It looked like a spot to me, hard to tell by sight when they are that size. could have even been a hybrid.

    • @banjohappy
      @banjohappy 11 месяцев назад

      He mentioned the reason for the sinkers. They had nothing to do with his ability to cast a spinner with an ultralight rod. Nothing wrong with his technique, an accurate, gentle presentation. What would you suggest for casting a spinner on such a small stream full of snags and spooky fish?
