There are silent places in the Netherlands, go to Waddeneilanden or parts of Groningen, Drenthe and Overijssel and you find very silent places 👍nice vlog!
I live in Twente (an area in the eastern of the Netherlands) and there are almost no big cities and there are only forests, fields and farms. Its very silent here
Hello Janica, I came across your video as I will be going to the Netherlands in April 2024. I found it quite interesting given my heritage. I am Canadian, but my paternal grandparents emigrated to Canada from Rotterdam before WWII. My maternal grandparents emigrated from Tampere around 1915. I went to Finland in 2018 and absolutely loved it, especially the saunas, natural beauty, and salmon soup :). I am very excited to visit the other half of my heritage next year, and your videos provide me with helpful insights.
How exciting!! Hope you will have a great time in The Netherlands next April discovering the other part of your heritage. Glad my videos have been of help 🙏🏻❤️
Hey Janice, All the things you said I see and feel that to. I am Dutch and live in the Netherlands all my life but it's my dream to emigrate to Finland for a couple of years. I have been there two weeks and it feels home for me. I enjoyed to watching your video.
I was laughing what you say about the winters in the Netherlands, a little bit snow, that children gonna be excited because it's not so much here.. When I came in Helsinki in October, in 1 day there was falling almost 50 cm snow 😮. I wasn't prepared for that! 😅 It is a huge difference with the Netherlands, right. Nice to hear, a real Finnish person like you, talking about the diverences. ❤
Yess.. in my opinion winter doesn’t exist in The Netherlands and I find it funny when people say it’s cold 😄 Thank you - glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️
Hi, Janica! Perhaps you'd like to visit 'de Zaanse Schans' here you will find original Wooden houses and ofcourse original Windmills from the 1600's. But they preserved the old style housing from 'back in the day' there. Though you should Try to ignore all the tourists overthere ;)
I like to think of myself as an “Old School Janica fan.” Because I've been watching so long I'm positive I've seen your last 2 annual Finland returns. And possibly the one before those 2! So I'm glad you can look back and appreciate the place of your birth, and the place you chose. So I guess, you'd be a good example of a Schengen Success Story.😃 “Voluntary country switching” probably isn't that common-of course I don't know why you moved. But normally people seem to fall into 2 categories; hard reason and soft reasons. The hard reasons samples are pretty clear- relationships jobs education wars personal threat to life soft reason samples- looking for a better life change of scenery learn a language You may/may not remember, but I've been working on this US to EU move for YEARS. And now I'm about to actually apply for the visa. But guess what? I don't have anything in the “hard” category. BUT, I've spent years working towards it. So people do these moves-and sometimes they KNOW what they're going to miss, but eventually; they find out. On the other hand, they THINK they know what they'll get in the new place, but of course they find out. Maybe “soft reason” isn't a great phrase, because clearly I'm COMPELLED. And probably people are compelled based on hope. Hope, hope, hope. Look at me! I'm writing poems!
Oh yeah, i remember you of course! 😊 That’s some good points! I guess my reason of moving was a bit of a mix of soft & hard reasons. 🤔 Exciting to hear that your plans of moving to Europe is going forward!! Good luck with it all 🤗 do you know what country yet?
@@JanicasJourneys Hey, good to hear from you. I'm rarely in the comments now-the GIANT tv set I bought to watch youtube died. So I watch on the laptop but don't want to log in anymore. But I'm always checking in to see what you're up to even you don't hear from me. But you actually went to my destination location, more later. And I guess I don't have to worry about moving the TV when I move... And, hahaha, well it's been a what you might call a “Dave-ica's Journey” for my move. But all online. Maybe 5 (or 6!) years of research. I think I might put out a small book in a month with all the stuff I learned. But as to “where” well here's a recap. Originally it was gonna be LONG term Africa travel. I think the youtuber Itchy Boots is Dutch and she did some long adventures. And a few other people on youtube; there's a Swiss guy on a boat floating around from spot to spot. But I live in a VERY difficult part of the US, and I ultimately decided, I wouldn't go straight to Africa .But instead Europe for the first few years. I just didn't want to go from difficult to different-difficult. I wanted to take “a break” in Europe. I wanted the exact OPPOSITE of the place I live in America, and chose Switzerland. Spent about 3 YEARS trying to find a path, but it's not easy. Basically either go back to school or give them HALF A MILLION Euros. A year. EVERY year! (And I spent 2 years learning 3 languages at once) So Portugal had a sort of Welcome-With-Open-Arms policy. So I spent a year getting ready and learning a FOURTH European language (on top of my Japanese from college). Last month Portugal folded their arms. Basically for the last year or so there's been some anti-newcomer sentiment. As you know America is completely controlled by the anti-immigrant politicians, so I know it when I see it! Even when it's only in the baby stages. (In case you're wondering, NL looks SO great, and I plan to visit a lot. But there is one issue I just can't get around). And it's been a whole year in a half, but I mentioned to you, I wanted to visit your homeland and the baltics-then take that ferry to Russia and eventually do the Trans-Siberian LONG train ride. But we know the story there... So early this year I picked a THIRD EU country. And then they started putting piles of garbage in the streets and setting fires, and fighting with the police. So now it looks JUST like America. C'est la vie...
I think your big missing your family that is not manson in this video. You now live in Holland not far from finland i think both country have almost same culture.stay well stay safe best wishes from me from gazipur bangladesh
Of course I also miss family and friends, this video was more about the countries themselves.. as there are actually surprisingly a lot of cultural differences between the two 😄

My search for a silent place shall continue then.. 😉Thank you!

Funny how you are Dutch and want to live in Finland - and for me it’s the other way around 😂❤️ happy to hear you could relate to these things!!
Finland 🇫🇮 in Miss universe
Interesting video Janica! Can you maybe do another video more on the culture differences? like Culture Shocks.. 😘😘
Thank you! ❤️ and yes - already got something related to this that I am currently planning 😉

Great tip! But i’ve actually already visited it and even filmed a video about it! Was fun, although yes - quite touristic 😄
Although the houses and Windmills are the real thing some of them were moved there from other parts of De Zaanstreek.@@JanicasJourneys

“Voluntary country switching” probably isn't that common-of course I don't know why you moved. But normally people seem to fall into 2 categories; hard reason and soft reasons.
The hard reasons samples are pretty clear-
relationships
jobs
education
wars
personal threat to life
soft reason samples-
looking for a better life
change of scenery
learn a language
