Thanks for the video...Was a 3 hour job for me, of which 1 hour was hammering on the CV. I've removed a bunch of them before on other makes but this thing gave me hell. Had a final wimpy swing due to sheer exhaustion and pop - out it went. Was previously jumping on multiple crow bars and the thing would not come out by prying. Note for Northeast rust belt guys: don't mess with the lower ball joint to try to gain more access, you'll be drilling out the cotter pin and is a whole mess in itself if you are not going to replace the ball joint. not worth it.
I used to live in NH and OH. I moved to central TN and don't miss the salt and rust. I bought a rust free trailblazer down here, it's nice not dealing with rust. They do salt the roads occasionally when we get our 1 inch of snow. But it's raining a couple days later which washed all the salt away.
I'm about to do the same job on a 2004 buick rainier. Before I take everything apart I'm going to triple check that I have the right seal. They gave me seal part number 710687. Thank you for the video.
hi love the video,i got a 04 envoy making a noise from where front bearing is,grinding,so i took out axle, removed bearing seal,i was told its inside the diff, any ideas? do i need to replace whole differ.thx
was your front end humming? bearing noise? i got same issue.who did you buy bearings from, places out here dont carry them parts.any idea? was told by a tronsmission shop to replace whole differential...lol
Just from the wheel bearing? You don’t need to change the whole set up for wheel bearing. The front axle goes into the oil pan and has a center axle. My leaking seal what just changed out with the seal and some elbow grease.
how did u line up the seal or did you put both together and drive it in? i pulled the seal but dont know if theres a trick to lining up those knotches on the back of the seal
Yes, you might have the wrong seal. Did you bring your old one I with you to the parts store? O’Reillys had to work some magic to pair mine with the correct seal.
@@Twostallgarage seal is the exact one with the metal tabs on the inside. No leaks but wanted to check. Can’t hammer it in anymore. Sticks out like 1mm.
@@Twostallgarage GM part. After looking at your video again closeup of the seal installed, looked the same. Thank you for your video, helped me out a lot.

Great video thanks. Found this seal issue while doing cv axles and a bunch of other parts. This definitely helps 👍

Oh I’m so jealous.. many reasons I want to move that way!
Great video, I use Napa seal and fits perfectly, passager side it's best to grease the 4x4 actuator
Awesome!
Very helpful and entertaining. I'm about to embark on the same journey. Hopefully I can keep as laissez-faire an attitude as you are able to.
Thanks! And good luck! It wasn’t as bad as I figured it would be. I’m glad you enjoyed. Have to poke fun while working in the garage.
Very helpful. Thanks for the part numbers. But it's called a differential. The transfer case is located at the back of the transmission.

You’re welcome and best of luck to you.
2 and a half hours and im back on the road. I'm glad they gave me the right seal.

Which seal? Inner or outer? I’m stumped at this bs ….entirely too much bs put into vehicles anymore
2003 GMC ONVOY HOW DO I REMOVE FRONT SHAFT THAT GOS THrouh the oil pan
Haven’t had to do one.
It's part of the differential so you have to take that off and slide it out
how did u line up the seal or did you put both together and drive it in? i pulled the seal but dont know if theres a trick to lining up those knotches on the back of the seal
I put it back together and drive the seal on. The notches or spikes seem to be a hold for the bearing to not back off.
Omg! U jacked it up using the oil pan!? Holy crap! Did it hurt the motor mounts?
Is that bearing suppose to come out like that? Should I buy a bearing when I get the seal?
Buy the bearing. Mine blew apart.
How tight did you tighten the bearing adjuster?
I did the same method as wheel bearings-tightened till it was hard to spin and back off just a touch till it was free and no play.
No more leaks, that’s good!
For sure!
Is the seal supposed to sit flush? I cannot get mine to get flush.

Great beard
😂 thanks
Put transmission fluid in a spray bottle and keep the undercarriage sprayed down to prevent rusting…just don’t get it on the paint lol…
Thank you
Glad it helped.
