I absolutely love this pack. I bought both the 20L and 30L in the Talon and Tempest lines for my wife and I. It is very comfortable and honestly fits my hammock gear and basic gear quite nicely. I'm not a fastpacker, I just like the fit of it and the stretchy pockets fit my oversize gear while dedicating the entire tub of the pack for smaller gear and food. I was actually able to load for an overnight with the 20L at a hair less than 11 pounds without food and water. It makes for a great daypack.
I just ordered the 20L velocity... be here in 2 days. I really need a 20L lol. Have an 18L and a 24L Manta, but need something in between. I thought to get the 22L Talon, but the Talon velocity has features I like. Those shoulder pockets are super convenient.
Bought the 30lt for Everest Base Camp in Sept and used it whilst training on Mt Wilson Sedona and last week for Mt Olympus Utah. Im not the tallest of people and find very comfortable. The bladder system is great. I use one of the front pouches for my 360 camera and pole, and find very convenient. Overall a great purchase and have no complaints.
I just purchased the Osprey Talon Velocity 30 backpack for biking and short trips, and it's hands down the most comfortable backpack I've ever worn. The 30-liter compartment is a decent size, but what I really love are the stretchy side pouches where you can easily fit a tent or similar items. The wide front straps are incredibly comfortable, and you can fit a lot of things in the pockets, like a GPS navigator, phone, or even water bottles. The velocity model is even cheaper than a pro or regular model!
@@tjmckay_4751I don't have the exact same type of bottle, but you can easily fit a 0.5L Prime Hydration bottle there. The Camelbak Chill Insulated Bottle 710ml also fits, but I wouldn't recommend using it, as it feels like it could rip the pouch after using it too many times.

The water blader compartment is actually very difficult to access, tricky to squeeze bladder in even when bag is empty. Then somehow in front it lacks hose holder (little clip that holds the end into place) as many other bags do, so the the hose either dangles in front of you or you have to shovel it in to one of the front pocket on the shoulder strap, again inconvenient and unstable, making it impossible for sports require more movement such as running, biking etc. So the bladder placement design is lacking. Anyway, I had high hopes for this bag, and it turned out a bit disappointing and quite expensive too.
Thank you. Finally an honest review. There’s no excuse to be missing a place to clip the hose. And there is really no excuse to make a bag that is difficult to put a bladder in. No one wants to struggle with the bladder.
@@Sharetheroad3333 If it's the yellow/gold strap on the upper shoulder strap, that one is too high, good it's there, but not enough to secure hose (the end bite valve is on), normally there is another clip or loop a lot lower, but not on this pack. If not, where about is it? Do you have a time stamp? I'd rather it's me not noticing it than design failure, as I've already got the pack. PS. also, might be a personal thing, but I hate the main compartment top closure system... zip + buckle would be a lot easier and more secure than draw string + hook. I find main compartment hard to access, you need to take time... I bought this pack mainly for the purpose of added ease and quick phone storage/access, which works. But then it compromised a lot more around other places: difficult to use with water bladder (mine is soft without hard backing though, not sure if it's easier to slide in for those bladder comes with hard backing. Also if you don't use water bladder, rather bottles or small ones runner use that you can shovel into the front pocket on the shoulder strap, you'll be fine), and difficult and somewhat flimsy main compartment closure system.
@@Sharetheroad3333 Welcome. :) After all it's a personal preference thing, I heard so many good things about this pack from different reviews hence was so excited and couldn't wait to get it. What bothers me might not be an issue for you.
The pro and the regular talon don't have them. Probably better to get one of those. If you remove them, IDK if it'll void your lifetime warranty, especially if you have shoulder strap issues later on. If you don't care about the warranty, you'll reduce the weight further. But those are the reasons I'm getting this bag... shoulder pockets and harness.
I think the future of ALL packs are the running style shoulder straps. It is just so nice to have access to so much stuff while moving.
By far the best video on this pack. Thanks!

Great review! This might be what pushes me over the edge to buy this bag.
That's a cracking review - much appreciated.
Great review thank you, this pack has gone straight on my wish list! The front access strap pockets look so useful.

What about a 1 litre smart bottle Tommi? In the left shoulder strap?

You work for Osprey. You posted the exact same comment in two Reddit forums.

I bought this pack for the Salktantay trek in Peru and it was perfect, however, I found it a little short, even on its "longer" setting. Im 6,1"
Which size did you get? Going to do the same trek in September 😊
Why do people always show pulling a bottle out of that back pocket? Of course you can pull it out. You just can’t get it back in.
Amen.
Just picked this up a week ago. You have a recommendation for soft bottles?

No rain cover?
No, most lighter packs don't come with them including the standard Talon. They are available separately.

A stupid question but: does it have a compartment for laptop?
