why do people keep calling this version 03? I thought it was just fullmetal alchemist edit: I scrolled and found answer but thanks for letting me comment :)!
If there is anything I wish they kept in FMAB, it's everything but add Ling to it. In fact I'd rather rewatch 2003 and only watch episodes of Brotherhood with Ling in them.
Because 'Brotherhood' was a localization name addition. Brotherhood in Japan is just called 鋼の錬金術師 : Fullmetal Alchemist. But Western distribution couldn't call it that because it would be confused with 2003 version.
This compilation pretty much encapsulates what I loved about 03's approach to Ed and Al's relationship. I love that they're given these little moments to pick on each other like juvenile kids. Heck, I have a brother, and we're around the age when most people go to college, yet we can still act like this 😝 I also really like how 03 took its time whenever Ed and Al had a conflict. Sibling relationships can get rough too, y'know! Ironic as it may sound, I think it makes Ed and Al seem more like intimately bonded siblings if we're allowed to see them fight and then resolve those fights in some way. It shows that they can come to some kind of understanding at the end of the day and that they will still support each other even if they think independently of the other. I feel that 03 seems to feature and weave in more flashbacks of Ed and Al in their youth. Like, seemingly insignificant moments of them together. I wish FMAB did smth similar bc those kind of flashbacks do a good job of reinforcing their bond as brothers. 2:30 --3:10 is one of my favourite examples of this, showing that they had a bond then that still remains strong in the present. I understand FMAB was more plot-driven and thus more faster-paced, but that also made me sometimes forget that Ed and Al's relationship was supposed to be at the show's center of attention. All in all, I'm glad that 03 really took time to develop Ed and Al's relationship as a core part of the story in the way that it did 💛
I'm going to love that version of Edward and Alphonse, since I can reflect myself as an older sister in him and it's easier to identify with the children's fights they have, plus the story makes me cry whenever I see it, it doesn't matter if I see it more than 20 times, I'm always going to cry with FMA'03

Nope. The best way to watch fma is to watch fma and fmab as seperate shows that just happen to share some elements and primary cast. FMA was never meant to be faithful to the manga and that was what was already decided upon by bones and Arakawa. fma 03 will not make sense linked to brotherhood because 03 begins to plant seeds for its future conflicts in very early chapters including Roy's visit to Winrey's family home being out of guilt for killing her parents and Scar's brother's partner being Lust's og version. Even the Liorians being related to Ishabalans was planted in the first few episodes.
