Hey there everyone. This is Ryu. From streets 6™️ Did you know my favorite things are Charging denjin point blank Water with ice Molded bagels The latest season of rick and morty Aaaaaand grass See you in street fighter 7 everybody!
Shoto players actually have an unspoken code that only one Shoto may be considered “Good” at a given time. It’s like the Sith rule, except somehow even more restrictive than the evil space cult
That's a big ass cap. Nobody is saying Ryu is bad, they say he's not good in competitive play which is true. This is literally the first time he won something major, not only that the entire year he was barely in any major tournament and when he was IN it, he didn't even place in Top 30. Nobody is arguing he's not good in ranked, but the stats don't lie for competitive play.
@Anonymous-gq7ho When it comes to competitive, a shoto nit being represented have more to do with the fact that most competitive shoto players will play whoever is currently the best shoto (which make sense strategically). So even if a shoto is viable, if he is less viable than the rest. Which I think is kinda what oh was referring to, I think. Even if a shoto is good (and I'm not talking about Ryu specifically here), you'd have people saying he sucks because compared to [best shoto] he isn't as good.
@@emperormegaman3856 I get the archetype argument. I just don’t think it applies given how different the shotos play. As a Ken player, learning Ryu is intuitive only up to a point, then I have to learn all his setups, safe jumps, frame traps, gimmicks, etc. Ken plays very very differently from either Ryu or Akuma. Akuma very different from Ryu. Ken doesn’t even have a normal overhead. Even the most braindead bnb combos are different (cr. jab jab jab X DP). Ken can’t do that, he’s gotta do a standing jab last or standing short. If I had to switch, I’d use Cammmy, Jamie or Juri instead. Maining Ken / Ryu / Akuma was do-able in USF4, I did so. But even in that game all three played very differently. Ken was rush down Kara focused, step kick the most important button; Akuma was flexible; Ryu was more zoning. So I ended up pocketing Rose, Yun, Sagat and Cammy. SF6 is just another level of complexity in regards to specials, corner pressure (no Corning yourself accidentally except for very specific situations).
You forgot psycho crusher also anti airs lmao. So full screen, fireball invincible, combos, safe on block, plus on burnt out, anti air. It’s actually wild how much they want you to buy bison
How many different characters have won majors throughout this game's lifespan? I don't play fighting games competitively, but from my perspective, seeing a nice chunk of the roster competing at a high level speaks more about the state of the game than any tier list could.
Nobody has ever looked comfortable playing Chun. They always look like they are on the edge of collapse. It's like they are gambling everytime they push a button.
I tried using the Whiff Hashogeki strat and it's fun watching them Parry. I've even took it over to Akuma and I'll just whiff Light Palm and get a similar result. Thank you Kusanagi.
I wouldn't say it's too close. Ryu is like B tier. Ken and Akuma are A and S tier. It could be argued that Ryu is A tier as well, but he doesn't have any sauce. Kusanagi won with straight up fundamentals. He could have done this with any character, given time
1:14:28 I will say something I've nothing. The ONLY time that a move burns you out AND you get the extra frame advantage is when the move youre using has multiple hits. Example being if Bison does OD Crusher amd it burns you out on the FIRST hit than the final hit will have the extra advantage but if it burns you you on the last hit then it won't
on a road trip w/ comically bad signal so i'm watching the vod on 144p and unironically being able to understand what's happening on screen makes me feel like in a past life i was watching fencing matches or some shit through a busted ass black and white tv
2:07:11 I completely understand why Sajam isn't planning on running a Smash Slam cause of Nintendo, but man it would be hella sick to watch if Nintendo wasn't the way they are. Thanks for addressing the people asking. As someone from the smash scene who is interested in dabbling in other fighting games, I appreciate the Slams.
Just a weird idea I got off the top of my head; what if certain heavy buttons took away Drive on hit, but at the cost of damage and/or heavier scaling? We could end up seeing people route for different stuff depending on what they're prioritizing at the moment 🤔
Akuma players will have their character be good at literally everything and still complain that he dies a bit faster than everyone else. They just want a perfect character with no weaknesses.
Man I hear this ranger talk and my brain immediately goes to AD&D. Isn't ranger just a fighter with a bow? Or was it a rogue with a bow? I know Druid was just a suggestion for making Homebrew classes, in this case using a Cleric focused on Nature kinda gods instead of Traditional Holy. (which if anything means that Ranger is a subclass of Fighter. And need something of the power level of getting their own fortress and 100 or so men-at-arms at level 10 like normal Fighters)
I love players doing analysis on their own matches. This is a TOTAL tangent from why you made this comment but I don't have many FG friends to talk to things about XD I've always been a player, in any game who is almost too hard on themselves. I've almost never tilted in games like League from teammate's mistakes, (definitely can happen when I've had a bad day though), but I almost constantly tilt when I mess up something myself. Honestly, one of the things I was really sensitive about learning the game was just how often I made stupid mistakes that I knew I needed to stop doing. But hearing that even pros can have these moments honestly did more to inspire me to keep learning, and understanding that I don't need to be perfect to eventually be really good at the game was more important to me than just being OK with losing. One thing that video really did for me was make me feel less bad on Aki for missing my 2LP 5LK link constantly. I'm still missing it even reaching plat, and it was really putting a damper on my will to keep learning. But hearing that occasionally (even if it's super rare), that Broski opted for an easy Tourney safe combo (I believe he did 5MP PC, Snakestep Kicks straight into super to win a round) because he didn't want to drop a link he'd done 1000s of more times than i probably have, helped put into perspective that it's OK to not be hitting basic shit even as you get better, and keep learning. It can happen to anyone, and anyone can feel uncomfortable doing something even after they've put in 10s of times more time than I have. I went from feeling like poop every time I missed that link to just letting it happen and moving on just because of small comments like that.
The last round was literally one drive rush interaction into corner carry into throw loops. This is why throw loops need a nerf. Like Broski said it is stupid easy to do and just boring to watch REGARDLESS of whatever balance it may affect. Talking to all of you "bUT iT coUNTErs pARRy" ppl. Also Sajam. Don't worry I still love you sajam.
I think Ryu is still the worst shoto but he was NEVER low tier like people were saying, he was never even close. Right now I'd put Ryu over Chun and AKI for example.

About the FG champ selects: I'm getting a friend into Tekkie, and he is a smartypants, so I figured he would understand champ select the best as follows: Pick whoever you think looks cool and feels good on the hands, if you pick a character purely due to how strong they are or how easy they are to learn, then you're more likely than not to not have the drive to keep finding new things and improving your gameplay. If you are completely interested in a character you will want to play the game even if you're not invested in it, so if you pick a character purely by logic and you stick to the game, you would do that anyway, so it is easier to cover all bases by picking someone cool because then you're probably going to have more time to understand the game and be better than you would if you chose by logic. Yes, I like to state the same thing in 4 different ways because it makes me feel smart. (real) (not false)
If i was Xiao Hai i wouldve simply guessed correctly there
Great point
The strategy is to win, not lose. Can't believe Xiao Hai didn't think of that, smh
If i was xiao hai, i would've never gotten hit
If I was Xiao Hai I would have convinced Kusanagi to forfeit the match
If I was Xiaohai I would've just used Guard Cancel Blowback more often. Smh this tournament just showed how scrubby KOF XV is.

SF6 Ryu is one of the most underrated characters in terms of cool factor, not enough people mention how cool his offense and combos are.
Didn’t expect a Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything name drop and ranger class discourse in my long form commentary of a SF6 tournament! 😂
Nobody has ever looked comfortable playing Chun. They always look like they are on the edge of collapse. It's like they are gambling everytime they push a button.
"Ryu is good, but Ken and Akuma are better" feels like a synopsis of Ryu's entire legacy lol
Anyone saying Ryu damage is low is crazy. The dude melts half ur health so easily
He does near Marisa level damage with a lot more options to actually get that damage. anyone who says Ryu is bad in this game is capping hard.
