I watched this about 6 months ago and it was just a good documentary. Then I went to Hans Verbruggen's NePoPo seminar, had my mind blown about everything a new in my 30 years of dog training. Now I have just watched this, post NePoPo seminar and I am like wow!!!!!!! I get it!!!!! I totally understand the importance of building "hope" in the dog and the importance of an Active dog - Passive handler.
who in the world dislikes this? lolololol. hahaha. Bart Bellon is a genius when it comes to understanding behavior and it's evident in his work. Thank you so much for sharing and letting all of us being a fly on the wall to such an interesting and clever trainer.
I don't like his explanations and metaphors much.. for example, I like his definition of "stress"...not at all...especially when he's all about "the science".
basically, this is one of the most important new videos for every dog trainer to understand the basics of dog training. The emerging new positive reinforcement school is a smoke in the mirror, a mirage, a marketing strategy and a very wrong approach to dog training. A dog should understan ''no'' as well as ''yes'', he must understand in the last phase of his education the meaning of the correction and how he can stop it immediately by doing the right behaviour. This new school doesent understand the basic theory of DT, what is positive and what is negative punishment and how to use it effectively to stop unwanted behaviours and to make the dog perform already learned behaviours faster. For example I teach a dog with freeshaping to lie down and he lies down in the beginning for 6 seconds. With time and repetition with positive reinforcement I get him to do it for 4 seconds, the I lay a little pressure wile he is doing the command and he does it for 1.5 seconds, then I give him a reward. After few hundred repetitions with a little pressure(pushing him down on the neck/shoulders) I stopped using pressure and start random reinforcement and the result is that the dog does the exercise/command around 3 times faster. Balanced training has evolved over the years to be as humane as possible and with as least pressure as possible to the dog, so the dog doesent shut down, but instead makes things faster and more accurate without lowering down his drive.
It's all about work and results, and being honest with yourself. If you care about results (behavior-exercises) then you know how a dog must work and you do not hide behind hypocrisy.
All 3,... heart and soul of the dog, the handler and the decoy should give 150%. A dog that gives that much is hard to find, but a handler and a decoy even harder to find that will give a 150%.
An excellent video on a very hot topic and as you said, who better to start with than BB! TY for that. One recommendation for future videos is to use desktop microphones to clarify the audio and eliminate the reverberant echo which makes the audio somewhat indistinct. Cheers JMP
shit people think negative in dog training is like working wild circus animals. Shore there is some sketchy trainers out there that you deff dont want to bring you're pet dog 2. Bart is the super balanced trainer of the working world, hall of Famer if you didn't know. Seek the real professionals!

Thank you a lot for the feedback! People do not understand and/or are jealous. But results are there, so.... :)

Well done. Love Barts material. I employ it with my disc dogs, but get ostracized by the disc community for not being FF.
That's a common problem with dog community in low "training conflict" sports like Discdog, agility and SAR. Barts system work in all dog trainings.

So how can you train a dog to eat spaghetti which has been lying in cold water for 10 years with heart and soul?
the fact content like this got overlooked shows the lack of interest to learn in the mind of so called PROFESSIONALS
