For anyone wondering, this is Elsie! I am doing just fine, and I am 12 now! Seeing this video is odd..seeing myself so young. But yeah, i am perfectly fine now! For anyone who wanted to know or wondered. 😊
I'm so sorry you were exposed to the world In this way. Parents can be tricky when they don't understand things. They were probably shamed for some of the same behaviors when there was nothing to be ashamed of. I really hope that you never let this affect you in a negative way. It blows my mind that anyone would put this on public forums and platforms for any reason though. It prime material for pedos and it's very alarming. Hope you're not haunted by this
@@ChRiStY4t5 thank you! I wasn’t affected by it in any means, some people just take these sort of things differently or the wrong way and don’t completely understand what it is. Please do not pathologize this behavior. This is entirely normal and common in toddlers. I am a pediatrician, and I reassure parents all the time regarding this.
Thank you for sharing and keeping this up after years. My daughter started doing this at 6 months of age. Same exact positions and we recorded to show to her pediatrician. She gave us the diagnosis of infantile gratification and that it should go away by 2 years of age. She’s 17 months now and I hope this ends sooner. Other than the weirdness of it all, she’s perfectly healthy
I'm studying child gratification disorder for my undergraduate dissertation and I found this video incredibly helpful and interesting. CGD is a very taboo subject and not very well understood and I'm hoping to help change that in my research. It's so prelevant in society, but nobody talks about it as child couldn't possibly be sexual, right? Children explore all areas of their body throughout development, their genitals is just another part of their body. Better understanding of this ‘disorder’ can help eliviate unnecessary anxiety to the child caused by invasive testing and social stigmas. The literature that exists suggest this is a completely normal behaviour in children and like all, should be done in moderation. Only when it is excessive and interferes with aspects of life such as school, should an intervention be considered. Shaming children about a perfectly normal behaviour can be detrimental to their subsequent development. Thank you for sharing your video, it's a brilliant insight into this misunderstood disorder. I hope your little lady is doing well!
Hi, I think that my child has the same case with this child in the video but i'm not sure since our schedule for nuero will be on June 26th but everyday I got worried for my daughter she keeps on stiffened her legs and always mumbling that it hurt down there. I have some video, I hope you can help. 😔
Rain Nicole Hello, I watched your video but I cannot give an opinion conclusively as I can’t tell if it is gratification behaviour. If your child does display this behaviour, don’t worry!! It’s completely normal and she will be fine. There is a brilliant video on RUclips ‘House - Child gratification disorder’ Watch it and I hope it alleviates you’re anxieties x
I don't understand what's triggering it. There doesn't appear to be any part of the swing pressing against that part of her body as she swings. My niece will do this in high chairs in restaurants and it can be very difficult to distract her!
I saw this described on house (I look up every disease and disorder). Wouldn't this be distracting to her when she begins school? I'm wondering if the car rides and swinging might be one of the causes. But I'm not a doctor. If it does become too distracting, is this something that you would consider treating? I don't know why I think ADHD meds might help.
Hey when she's into this like in the middle of it please dont distract her it cause fast heart beats and the kid automatically becomes angry... Its like having sex and when you're about to chm someone just stops you from doing it... Its not really it bt let her finish.... Am a victim too and when I was young if you tried to distract me i would bite you 😖are just scream at you... Of course its normal you feel relived afterwards and energised I still do it and am 21 yrs right.. For me my African mom thought I was possessed and took me to our pastor it never stopped.. So the more I grew up I started doing it secretly coz its shameful in Africa. Luckily being a graficant' give you self control like you didn't have to have sex physically.. Gratification was all you needed
I am shocked that there is a name for this. I'm an adult that this disorder affected, but it is not written in any medical notes anywhere. As far as i am aware i was older, perhaps 3/4 and it hasn't been disputed, my parents were shocked, more embaressed but obviously as i was older they were able to determine it wasn't anything serious and my behaviour didn't pose any problems as i was aware it was something to do in private. I'm upset there isnt more known about it.
Me too. My Mom says she sometimes felt as though I was gratifying myself when she was pregnant with me. She said she felt me moving inside of her. This behavior continued into pre-k and social workers told my Mom I was sexully abused. Hell, for all I know I probably was, who knows. This problem was magnified when I was left home alone and exposed to my Father's merchandise. He sold pornography and I located his stash. I was hooked. This was at age 13. I am now 30 and I'm only now learning about how to treat this. My sexual drive is so strong that it impedes my ability to focus. I've researched female castration, inducing menopause and even suicide. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Wish people would talk about this more maybe formulate a type of therapy to help children with this disorder so it doesn't affect their bahavior in adulthood.
I don't get the pathology part really, she is being rocked its not something off the charts to have this specific reaction. I should read more about this, it sure doesn't look like a pathology.
my daughter has the same symptoms and has gross motor delays... she is 1 year and 8 months old now and just starting to stand up... does this gratification disorder affects the motor development?
I have spoken to psychologists, psychiatrists about this they have assured me it is normal but weren't willing or didn't know any more about it. I will say that what affected me the most was in knowing i was strange. This is something to avoid in parenting a child with this. I am concerned this was the beginning of my mental health difficulties or a sign of something, or if not i certainly grew issues from how this was handled. Are mental health problems linked i wonder, learning difficulties?
Perhaps the reason you felt like you were strange was because you were shamed by your parents for doing it. It is completely normal and not harmful as long as healthy boundaries are taught.
Hello, I wanted to reach out to you about your daughter's behavior. From your second video, my daughter does the same exact thing only when sitting on a hair chair and even in her car seat. Is this something to worry about? She is about to be two years old now.
Thank you for sharing. How is she doing? I have had epilepsy since I was 5 (I'm 30) so I know how terrifying a possible diagnosis of it can be. Hope things are better :)
Thanks for sharing this. Seen similar behavior at age 4 with my kid. I am curious how you managed this behavoir and did your daughter outgrow it completely?
She has outgrown it completely - probably sometime between ages 3-4. She is 8 years old now, and there is absolutely no issue with her - healthwise or socially.
For anyone wondering, this is Elsie! I am doing just fine, and I am 12 now! Seeing this video is odd..seeing myself so young. But yeah, i am perfectly fine now! For anyone who wanted to know or wondered. 😊
I don't see anything unusual, just a baby exercising her muscles, all babies should be allowed to be slightly different!

We just redirect her. When she was an infant, she would usually fall asleep eventually if we ignored the behavior.

No, it’s entirely separate from any other development.
