  • In India people are Crazy for C segment Suvs, Cars like creta and seltos that costs around 20lakhs are really high in demand.
Indian customers even love off roaders like fortuner which costs upwords of 50lakhs.
But we indians don't really like to spend our hard earned money on the cars which fell under the price bracket of 35 to 45lakhs.
Here i am talking about D segments suvs which are mostly imported either through ckd or cbu routs.
In this Video we tried to decod the reasons behind extremely low sales and have also explained exactly which type of buyer is suitable for these cars

My family owns the Hyundai Tucson now after selling the GLC220d. We initially thought about replacing it with another German, but the sudden price increase put us off. We bought the GLC at around 60L in 2017, but costs almost 1 crore now. Made zero sense to spend that much money on a car.
Sold our GLC for around 41L, added in 2 lakhs and bought a Tucson. Best decision ever made.
Also, in 8:26 he says that Tucson is made from K2 platform which produces mass market cars, but it's actually built from N3 platform which shares with Kia Carnival, Sonata, etc.

Is there any genuine reason as to why we have such ridiculous import taxes on vehicles?
Of-course apart from the fact that it helps Indian car manufacturers to provide lower quality products with no competition to Indian customers.
Imagine getting these D-segment cars for the same price as the XUV700 and Safari. It would give buyers more options and push companies like Mahindra and Tata to improve their quality and engineering.
Plus, it would make India more attractive for foreign car companies, encouraging them to bring their latest models instead of dumping outdated ones at a premium.

@@trijit96 That's actually a great point, I didn't consider the fact that the manufacturing plant and its employees will be paying taxes.
Still, the taxes are quite high when compared to other countries, for example USA only has 2.5% automotive tariff even china only has 25%, now compare that with India's 100% not including other duties and taxes before you can drive a car on road. I just don't think this is justified.

Ironically, Skoda is planning to bring in the Superb diesel as a CBU sometime next year. That would make the on-road price upwards of 60L, which is German Luxury car territory. People would get the GLA 220d instead of the Superb.
I honestly believe that European and American car manufacturers are either delusional or outright stupid. VWAG killing of their diesels is a shot in their leg. Ford pulling the plug abruptly doesn't give confidence either.

Best example is superb itself, look at the price after relaunch, it's insane!! that too without any update!! Right now i believe if a person has 50l, then he should definetly buy kodiaq with eyes closed. The quality, perfomance, looks , safety , sheer driving pleasure , features & build is way superior than some overhyped cars and at par with some premium German brands (Audi , Merc & BMW). Mere hisaab se to asli dikkat ye hai ki, me agar itna paisa kharch karke koi gaadi le lu, aur vo company kuchh saal me exit kar jae kyuki unki sales achhi nahi hai, to me service kese karaunga, parts availability ka issue aaega.
European gaadiyan banti bhi vese over engineered way me hai, to inka to timely maintenance karna zaruri hai.
India me official service center ke alava kahi aur le jana to bahut bada gamble jab official factories sahi se quality maintain nahi kar paa rahi.

People should take note of such content, give it some of their time, and see what's wrong and what's right when it comes to buying decisions, driving behavior, understanding government policies, analyzing automobile industry dynamics, etc.
Keep doing the good work people, you guys are great at it. Would definitely like to connect with the host and exchange a few talks about the industry.

No, diesel engines are strongly preferred by people in D segment and premium SUVs. Even a world renowned SUV like Jeep Grand Cherokee barely has any sales here with a petrol engine. So why do you think Jeep Meridian would do any better with a petrol engine option?
Jeep struggling in India is not because of their engines or powertrain, it's way beyond that and they've to address those issues if they don't want to remain a niche market here.

    All things considered.
Had to decide between Legender, Endeavour, Gloster and Kodiaq.
Ford pulled out of India. So Endeavour out of the scene.
Gloster had everything, but the car didn't look good enough imo. Plus, we had heard of some issues plaguing the Infotainment System.
Kodiaq was a really good car. But un-inspiring. Timid. Un-imposing.
    Last option was Legender.
Is literally one of the best looking cars. Design-wise. Looks stunning. Especially the DRLs.
The road presence is just on another level.
You can complain about the interior all day.
Nobody in our family even listen to the Radio bruh. Forget about using any other features lmao.
