- The plaintiff was forced to move out of his room because the defendant, his landlord, was renting an illegal apartment. The plaintiff is suing for a rent refund for the nine months he lived there. The defendant insists the plaintiff was only supposed to be renting her garage for storage, but he was secretly sleeping there.

I do feel a little sorry for the Plaintiff. I’m sure he wasn’t being cheap. It was either this or sleep in the streets. I still feel the right call was made though. Yes, it was his only option, but he still did live there and should pay.

It's disgraceful that she perpetuated this scheme while the rest of us abide by landlord/tenant laws. Ultimately, the plaintiff lost out because he knowingly participated in an unlawful contract, hoping to recover his expenses.

Where is the crime? A guy voluntarily rents a garage. Whether the landlord knew he was living there or not, it was a voluntary transaction between consenting adults. Defendant actually made this case himself when he told Doug that he rented the garage because he needed shelter!
