This is helpful to people that want to listen to a short story without having to read it stop being rude yall need to be knider
"kinder" bro we are here for school shut up
This is a fantastic short story, a magnificent reflection of social phenomena of “status” and “superficial” which brought us “compare with the Jones’”! And we work all our life so we can have the same life style with our “glamours” neighbor who borrow money for everything they own, from house, car to name brand clothing! Although this book was written centuries ago, it still reflects our current society! I knew about this book 40 years ago on a radio show, always loved it and also learned lesson from this book, live within your means!
That’s so sad... Alexa, play Despacito
I read this when I was very young and the story still haunts me ....great narrator
Sad, they should have been honest about losing the necklace
Read this in my sophomore year, this story is well studied. It can be applied to everyone’s life around the world, very meaningful.
To all the students who ask why they have to read this story: One reason is because a democracy requires people who can think and read critically to make informed voter choices rather than be blindly manipulated by political candidates who tell you how to think, to use you as a means to their ends. Moreover, your ability to survive and earn a living for yourself requires the ability to read and think. You don't get to call room service and order anything you want. You have to work for it. It's a lovely story. Use your brain to understand what it is telling you. Equally important, use your brain to challenge some of the ideology in the story. Look up ideology if you don't know what the word means. Look up every word you are unsure of. Be eager to expand your mind. There are many children around the world who would give anything to have a chance at an education. Don't be like the main character in the story and take for granted the opportunity you have been given. Some of these comments show you are more like the main character in the story than you realize.
but if a democracy requires all that then what does a republic need because we are a republic next time when you want to sound smart do your research and don´t just say anything to make yourself seem smart and from this comment I am guessing that you failed history don´t believe me then look it up
stfu pls
i dont give a fuck about democracy and all that type of shit
Read this when I was a young child and it impacted me for years and I told my kids this story. Finally listening to it all these yrs later and wow at the insight from a young kids perspective to an adult.
There were def some books teachers assigned to me that didn’t resonate or I was not getting it. It for the most part, most assigned reading was for a reason

Uriah Pinex up
Yes
By the end I really felt sorry for the couple!
+NVaizard It puts you in the mind of being grateful for what you have and not to complain so much about what you do not. I felt sorry more for the husband because he loved her so much and wanted to see her happy.
1ramzeej boi

Brave, the fine reading that this revered story deserves, well done.
I am here because of my honors English class. Don't really know why I am reading this it is pretty dumb. Just doing this so I can pass this class, god bless us all
no one cares
This is for my honors English class too😢
For an honors kid you’re pretty dumb if you don’t understand why this is required reading .
A story of why honesty can save you many a trouble and downfall.
Best ending ever!
Yes, I'm here because of school too but this helped a lot. Thanks x100000 Loved the narration !!!!!!!!!!
This is why you should tell the truth and own up to your mistakes.

Who is here in quarantine??
I'd be asking for that necklace back.
That was so sad but I loved it!
It was not entirely sad. What happened forced her to develop character.

Thank you so much I was absent for almost a week so I missed most of this unit so this helped a lot since I rather listen then read so again thank you
My man!
I hope that woman gave her the necklace back. That way she'd have a bit of money. 36 grand was probably enough to live a comfortable retirement on that time of day.
thank you so much, I have this on my exam and I wanted to read it before I took it.
this is for my teacher interview.. hope i get my job
Did you get it?

Where can I get a copy of this material? I mean, I've read a lot of versions of this story, but this one is my favourite 'cause it matches to my book. I am currently typing my handout for my students, but it's difficult to find a soft copy of this version in an MS Word Format.
Wow- that was a horrible ending😢 that poor couple 😐😭 the irony though 😮
A quite decent Librivox reader 🌹
I just want to play games but instead, I have to write a report about this short story :(
Am I a smart/good student by listening instead of reading?

I have a quiz on this tomorrow. Gotta get an A.😗
can someone tell me some personification used in the story? i can't find any lol

I'd be surprised if there was someone who didn't come here for school/homework
TBH I feel wiser now
How terrible. I didn't see that coming. It was an apt ending though.

Sorry to say this , but I have to as this is such a beautiful story , but your narration literally castrate the entire essence of the story I read in my school . No stress , no intonation , no rhyme , no pause . It’s like a long very long run on sentences ...
