I spent years having a lot of acne (though I’ve seen much much worse) and I went on birth control and it took it all away in a few months (not without giving me more at first though)
And I just got too lazy to take them so I stopped and my acne came back 😭
It was well lived out 🥺

the hydrocolloid patches seem to work well on pimples that look “poppable.” they are pretty immediately gratifying (6-8 hours, usually overnight) bc you can see all the pus and gunk left on the patch and a much less noticeable pimple. I feel like this might deter ppl from popping their pimples & ultimately reduce scarring

Yeah, if you put this over an unpopped pimple or closed skin it will do nothing. I find that it is also good for extracting sebum from pores or comedones

Pimple patches were a life saver back in high school. However, I would only use it at night with nothing else on my face. I used to have huge cystic acne that would last a whole month and then a new one would come, so I would have a huge pimple on my face at all times. They suck the pus out of the pimple and make it smaller, helping in the healing process.
Ps: My cystic acne went away as soon as I cut Lactose out of my diet. Never had it again, 10 years later!

We use hydrocolloid dressings for a variety of wounds in the hospital (anything from surgical wounds, trach and gt site breakdown, wound dehiscence, etc). Bummer there's not sufficient data on these r/t acne, but I'm a huge believer! If something can heal a wound, it's hence repairing the skins barrier- maybe even helping relieve inflammation from a breakout. I've had good results with them too, but who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thanks for always bringing us the research Dr Dray!

I love using them. I only use them when it would be ready to "pop." I put the patch on and in the morning, the gunk is on the patch and the zit is gone. The puffiness has diminished. They are amazing.

These patches were a complete game changer for me. One is specifically during the pandemic I work long hours almost every day of the week and putting them on my pimples causes as a barrier to the rubbing of the medical masks. It also draws out the fluids and it keeps it contained so that it’s not going into other pores in the area and infecting them. So I find it definitely isolates any infection that I may have when I’m having a break out!! It honestly just helps the healing process move along by stopping any irritation!

Dr. Dray, you are just amazing, you read our minds each time. I am wearing two patches right now and I needed your intake on them. I find them, as you said, a great barrier for my hands to not pick them. And I actually see how it’s depuffing every time and it takes most of the pus as I take it out and there is no scaring. So maybe it doesn’t do anything ingredient-wise but it gets the job done for me! Well I’ve only used them inside my house but i wouldnt mind using them to go to work, they are so subtle. Thanks for the info and the company, as usual. You make our quarantines better. Love from Argentina!

I like the Cosrx pimple patches. My 13 year old son and I place them on our pimples overnight and remove them in the morning. This is applied on cleansed moisturized skin (no actives underneath)... it helps with the swelling for sure, and depending on the size of your pimple, it's practically gone by morning. That has been our experience so far 😍. Happy Sunday Dr. Dray, I hope all is well 🤗

I swear by pimple patches. They are great at drawing out the “gunk” and keep me from picking. They are especially good for pimples that you can feel but are too far under the surface to “pop”. They do still leave pretty significant red marks on me but it’s still better than leaving a scar. You can use blister band aids for larger areas or if you are out of patches, they work the same.

I find they work REALLY well for pimples that have broken skin, or pimples that have come to a head. I notice they soften the head of the pustule after being on for several hours and suck out a lot of the puss that's inside of the pimple. If I have acne that's super inflamed I notice a huge difference the next morning compared to if I don't use them.

I use the cosrx clear fit acne master patch (the one in the black packaging) and adapalene to control my acne. The patches work better than spot treatment (never found one that work on me) because they suck up the pus that comes out and prevent picking and the adapalene reduces spots to 1-2 a month. I also find they reduce healing time by half and prevents hyperpigmentation after the fact. No idea why they work so well but they are $5-7 dollars for 6 months supply so they are far more cost effect than any other acne treatment.
    Edit: grammar

This week I went to our huge city park and relaxed on a blanket in the shade and took a 3.5 mile walk. Also supported a local place by ordering a crepe and having mimosas. Oh! And Friday for dinner I made lentil curry! It was delicious.
I've always had luck with hydrocolloid bandages. I don't use the ones marketed for acne because they're overpriced and have extra ingredients in them, just the ones that are sold for blisters. They work well on poppable pimples and I'll admit.... I pop mine before adding a bandage. I know, not recommended but I was taught pretty well how to do so in a sterile manner in esthetician school (I know most esthys aren't reliable sources of info, which is why I stopped practicing, but thankfully the state board of cosmetology is huge on being safe and clean). Anyway, they always flatten in the morning when I pull off the bandage which is all I ask for. When I don't add one to a pimple like that, they usually stay raised, even overnight when I don't mess with them. It's also nice that they keep any bacteria away from them when sleeping because sadly I have not succeeded with sleeping on my back so my cheeks are always smushed on my pillow! Lol
They have saved me a couple times because I have suffered with severe cystic acne for years. So thankful to have it under control now with a simple routine and a prescribed topical antibiotic.

These patches have become a must have for me. I put them on whiteheads all the time, and by the next day, when I take them off, they open up and almost empty/discharge the pus and blockage for me entirely. I barely have to do anything (no more using a needle and all that), and it protects the pimples from me scratching at them, plus it hides them and thus I dont mind not touching the pimple - I just go out with the patch on and be done.

My mother and I used one (cosRX patch) and it made it so much worse and it lasted for months (something that has never happened to me or her). For me, resulted in an atrophic scar and lack of healing. I’ll never use one again.

Husband and I have been very industrious this weekend, housekeeping at our condo is not happening because of the current situation, so I've been cleaning myself. Yes, l know poor me🙄
Our floor tiles and in all the bathrooms are in white marble with white grout, and it's been bugging me that the grout is no longer white. Ugg! Can't stand it. l didn't want to scrub all of it, so l Googled how to make white grout white again, and up popped up grout refresh!! I ordered it immediately, arrived on Friday and I'm happy to report that all that dingy grout is now sparkling white!!! So happy 😊😆😍
    That's our weekend 😁
Stay safe and healthy everyone 😊🍁

I used a hydro colloidal patch on what I thought was a pimple. When I took the patch off I had a hugh bruised mark. Fast forward to 3 months later. I realized I have "fungal acne". So if anyone gets hyperpigmentation from a patch. See your doctor. You'll only create a petri dish for fungal to spread.
On a positive note. I used it on a tender pimple and it helped all the nasty pus come out when I removed the patch.

    Question for Dr Dray:
Is “medical grade” skincare more effective and does it penetrate the skin more deeply than drugstore/department store brands? As some claim

    • @andrew-song
      @andrew-song 4 года назад +1

I’m not Dr. Dray, but short answer: No
Long Answer: It depends on a variety of factors, such as: the reputable brand, specific product with a certain propagated ingredient (such as encapsulated retinol), etc. So disregard the titular labels of “Medical Grade” and “Clinically Tested” as they are mostly marketing propaganda, which appeals to consumers with the premise of the brand being luxury and “higher quality.” Ultimately, it’s the content of the product that should matter and not the brand. And that’s why “Medical Grade” skincare was created, so that consumers could pay for the label and not the content. Although, it is worth noting that some brands do offer some nicely formulated products. Two brands that come to mind for me would be SkinCeuticals and Colorscience, as their range of sunscreens are usually nicely formulated from the SPF coverage to the finish. But anyways, I hope this addresses your question somewhat, as it really comes down to a plethora of variables when discussing the worthiness of Medical Grade skincare.

Some yes like Tretinoin which you can only purchase with a prescription. Drugstores/department brands can only sell retinols which are a weaker version of Tretinoin.

I always have 1-2 boxes of Nexcare patches in my bathroom. As soon as a pimple comes to a head (I can see white), I slap one of these puppies on (no skincare undernearth) which keeps me from picking and the next morning the patch has absorbed a HUGE amount of the pus and my pimple has significantly deflated. Honestly you guys - if you're on the fence about these just BUY a box and try them.

I love your approach on skincare from a science-based / dermatologist's perspective; but I have to admit, the COSRX patches are fantastic for treating pimples, even though I still do not understand how they work. They literally just suck out the puss and reduce the inflammation. I use adapalene (which makes my skin scar and bruise easily), and the COSRX patches drain the pimples without any need for picking or pinching the skin.

Hey Dr. Dray, could you do a video on using microfiber cloths for water-only washing? It’s a really popular thing to do on the crunchy skincare blogs. There are even some with silver and copper in them that are supposed to help with acne. It would be interesting to hear your perspective on whether or not these copper and silver cloths can actually kill acne bacteria.
