LOST FOR 35 YEARS: MEL BLANC INTERVIEW FROM 1979!

- Опубликовано: 13 июл 2015
- Only a handful of random Californians saw this in-depth interview with the Looney Tunes voice master when it aired on public accessTV in 1979. Furthermore, until a week ago, I was convinced that the original tape had long ago been "wiped" -- but when a batch of DVD-Rs came back from being digitized last week... THERE IT WAS! Complete and none the worse for wear!
So wh-wh-whaddaya waiting' for? Check it out! From host Dennis Tardan's interview series Reasonably Spontaneous Conversations (the episode w/Peter Tork of The Monkees is also up here on RUclips, if you hadn't noticed!)
(PS: Pardon my occasional fiddling about with SFX and subtle BG music -- it's better than a "watermark"/time code, you have to admit...) Приколы
Let's admit it, Mel Blanc was family. Those pieces of film are masterpieces. And he brought the character to it. Such a talent.
He lived long enough to realize that his voice and iconic characters would live on forever, what a feeling of satisfaction that must have been for him.
Mel Blanc was a gift from God ❤
ain't we lucky
thanks so much for posting this interview , my inner child is beaming right now
One of the most talented men of all time. My childhood was a joy and one of the reasons was this man and the people at Warner Bros. thanks Mel
+Daytripper N7 I agree 100%!
He was one of my favorites also! It's too bad they didn't show the rest of this interview.
Mel was impersonating the voice of Kenny Delmar for Foghorn Leghorn Kenny Delmar was on the Fred Allen Show he also did a movie called it's a joke son so it's more like an impersonation of Kenny Delmar
oohh my!!;) did you see how he was doing that with the voice of bugs bunny!? did anyone see this?;)
oohh yeaa!!;) he was just talented! and to think way before in the past werner bros. didnt want him. because they said noo we already have voices jajajaj and he would just tell them or him. just listen to me he said. and they kept saying noo i toll you. we already have the voices!;) he kept insisting. for 2 years jajaj. and got it!;)
He was also an absolute saint of a human being. A truly wonderful person.
A gift from God.Mr Mel blanc
This may be the most outstanding in-depth interview of Mel Blanc I have ever seen. How great to come across this wonderful man who entertained us for so many years.
This man was a gem! The old wb cartoons still hold up
Bugs Bunny was the king of trolls lol..
The best!
Mel Blanc is my hero, God bless you sir.
He loves his work as much as we do. Thank you for sharing your voices Mel Blanc
Thank God for the wonderful Mel Blanc. His voice and talent made my childhood so much fun and filled with laughter. Now he is doing it all over again making my children laugh!! RIP.
Mel Blanc made us happy with his voices and his characters , he made our kids happy. And now my grandkids are in their glory with Looney toons cartoons . He was and still is amazing. We all love you Mr Blanc , Thank you for all the special years , God bless you . RIP Sir .
I like the interviewer for him just being himself. No pretence. Pure interest. Genuine connection with his subject. Refreshing.
This interviewer talks way to much...and we all know why he(r) does
YES THIS MAN WAS EXTREMELY GIFTED. ONE OF MY ENTERTAINMENT HEROES.
This interviewer is so sweet. It's obvious he has a deep respect for the legendary Mr. Blanc!
I've always thought Foghorn Leghorn has more depth and is a fully realized character and is way underappreciated.
"I say, I say" that's what I've been saying friend!
Now the cancel culture would call him racist. You know that they would.
Foghorn was hilarious, had a boss at 15 that had similar mannerisms, he didn't appreciate my impersonation of him but everyone else would lose it.
Incidently, the name of the actor on The Fred Allen Show was Kenny Delmar and the character was Senator Claghorn.
Why?
He'd live 10 years after this interview he'd pass away in 1989.
Even with his natural voice, it still sounds like a voice I could've heard on a Looney Tunes cartoon.
close to bugs bunny.
Mel always described his natural speaking voice as Sylvester without the lisp.
Wile E Coyote is pretty close too
@@jeffchabotte Yeah, albeit with an Ivy League accent.
It is.. it's very nearly the same voice he'd use as a narrator in the off character episodes, like the dog show
A genius and a national treasure. GOAT. Thank you very much for posting.
We miss you Mel.
And Jack, Mary, Phil, Rochester, Dennis,...
And Don
Mel had over 400 distinct voices where he then would add accents and various dialects which he used on over 2000 different characters not to mention a huge variety of sound effects. No one holds a candle to Mel.
Where in the hell did you get your facts from ??
@@dewalt4594 I think he said that in another interview
he needs not any rotten candle , he’ll blow it to smithereens! ,
he oushines the sun with his brilliance .
@@dewalt4594 Mel stated these exact facts on the late show with David Letterman in 1984.
This really is one of the best interviews of Mel Blanc. Because he isn't a professional interviewer, he doesn't ask the same questions and get the same answers.
What separates Mel Blanc from the pack is that he was in a class by himself as a comic actor. He could play both sides of the conversation, make each character sound like a different person, create a relationship, and be funny.
That's why he was the best actor in history. Think about it!!
@@bergerfry Mel Blanc was a first class genius.
Any studio, not just Warners, used him. He voiced Tom and Jerry, many for Hannah Barbera, and other live action shows like Buck Rogers.
@@alfredodedarc Quite the career, even on camera.
Mr. Mel Blanc was a genius. He is undisputed the greatest voice actor of any generation. For me, I could never forget the "man with a thousand voices" and the genius of his work.
Thank you, Mr. Blanc, and may you rest in peace.
His natural speaking voice is superb. It contains deep resonant lows and very crisp highs and every syllable is clear with a lot of pitch variation. He was born to be a speaker or narrator or even a singer. Becoming a voice actor was just natural for him!!
"I grew up watching those cartoons."
"So did your old man."
So did my grandpa.
RIP Mr. Blanc.
What a LEGEND. One of a kind. Thank you, Mel, for all the laughs.
What a treat. The voices from my childhood.
A most entertaining and talented chap. Absolutey gifted. His voices are remarkable. His conversation interesting, never a dull moment. God Blessed him.
This man defined my childhood with his amazing talent. Much respect and RIP good sir!
Ageless Brilliance...nobody even comes close to this man's mindboggling talent!
Yes except his son Noel!😊
Mel Blanc was a genius! Thank God for this video.
Mel Blanc is my hero no joke!. I grew up watching Looney Tunes and I still do with my nephew and he loves it just as much as me now.. I wish I could've had the chance to meet Mel shake his hand and say thank you for sharing that talent with the world. RIP Mel Blanc and I hope you're making everyone in heaven laugh their butts off!. 🙏🙏
What a great interview..Happy birthday Mel May 30
This incredible man....played a big part in/of, my childhood!!
The cartoon characters he portrayed....
He was a master of his craft, his humility is refreshing, touching.
This entire interview was very thorough/ enlightening.....( Just my most humble opinion)....
Thank you for posting this.... Priceless/ Timeless ✨✨✨✨
Thank you,Mr.Mel Blanc....May you Rest in Glory😔🕊️
Dennis Tardan is an excellent interviewer. He asks questions and gives his guests the opportunity to speak without interrupting them. That is rare today. Mr. Blanc died on July 10, 1989 at Cedars-Sinai at 81 years of age due to complications from emphysema and heart disease. He had been hospitalized for two months. It is July 28, 2020 and his son Noel is 81 years of age and is retired. He also was a voice actor like his father.
Would love to know your standards on interviewing if you found that to be good at all
@@TheBrandonn I agree. And I suspect Mel wasn't too pleased with the interviewer either (who cut Mel off just seconds into the interview; the interviewer does like to hear himself talk). At 5:33, Mel says, "We're not on the air yet, are we? Jeez!" Hmm . . . And what insightful questions like, "What does it feel like to be 70?" Sheesh. The piece is great -- thanks to Mel -- despite the interviewer's shortcomings.
Its hard to believe Yosemite Sam and Tweety Bird came out of the same person. He's really one of a kind person. I still watch some of the cartoons and I'm still amazed at the voices he did.
There is nothing like the old fully animated cartoons.i feel fortunate to have had it all my life❤
We've seen his cartoons so many times we have them all memorized! I think all would agree that this wonderful man had a positive impact on our lives as children. His characters brought joy and happiness to us in ways we still feel. How many out there find themselves mimicking the characters lines second before they say them!?
Mel Blanc, A True ICON ❤❤❤
This is gold. It's very interesting that Dennis brought up the new computers and asked how Mel thought they could help with animation. The topic didn't go very far. No one really knew what computers were going to be able to do in animation until a bit later.
This is one man that I sure wish I could have met & give him a big buddy-hug & to thank him (and all that was involved with the WB cartoons) with the entertainment that he has given me my whole childhood as well as an adult as the WB cartoons still make me laugh out-loud today.. R.I.P. Mel Blanc.. Definitely a 1 of a kind! Thank you Sir..
What a fantastic interview and so much respect for the giant in the room. Great production work as well. Excellent mic placement! So rich! Black and white is good enough when the content is so colorful!
screamengine I appreciate good sound too, and it made this easy to listen to. Your comment is very profound and clever: black and white is good enough when the content is so colorful!
I just happened on this, pretty sure I directed, lit, and did the sound. I had a thing about NOT using AGC on the audio. Unfortunately this is cropped for 16:9. This was recorded on Sony 1/2" reel-to-reel video tape at Theta Cable, 2939 Nebraska Avenue in Santa Monica, CA., now Spectrum.
@@BC-rc2dq You did a mighty fine job! World class!!! No smoothing filter in modern software could do this, at least not easily. And the cam/video is rock solid. Probably the best I've seen from the era! Is there slight compression on there in place of AGC?
We didn't have anything more than a Shure mixer. Set levels and go, watched levels as we went. The Sony decks had AGC, but it would pump up when anyone paused speaking and then the air conditioning noise became thunderous, so I never used it. No biggie, and we shot about six shows a day Our studio was very small, but many of the people producing the shows had lots of industry connections, so we had many big celebrity guests. Many more than a "Hollywood" PR firm brought in for our pay TV service (Z Channel), which was ironically amusing. I remember Jack Lemmon, Robin Williams, John Ritter, Marty Feldman, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Jesse White, Dusty Springfield, Elsa Lanchester, Mervyn Leroy, Jay Leno as just a few. Karen Black was breast-feeding at my desk one day. Public Access was on channel 3, and the cable system had 14 to 36 channels, so viewers clicking between CBS and NBC would often stumble on Public Access shows. I often heard that guests enjoyed just being able to have an uninterrupted discussion without being staged.
Mel Blanc deserved this interview. Everything before and since was the bread and this was the meat. Amazing!
There is only one Mel Blank. Unfortunetly there will never be another one. Rest in peace "The man of 1,000 voices". You are ther man!
Bugs is right
- just about the greatest character voice actor there is for all time
the late great Mr. Mel Blamc 👍🧡
Congratulations on this find. Very unusual, a public access program from 1979 filmed and discovered.
True humble gentleman.....always glad to hear him - RIP Mel - you brought so much laughter to all.......
Thanks, Mel, for giving us all so much happiness.
CAPTAIN CAVE MaaaAaaaAaaaAn! Loved Mel !
This interview is so thorough and amazing, what an absolute treasure. Not to mention that free coffee-sip.amr at the beginning. What a perfect little sound effect that would be
Thanks you Mel for making my childhood a little happier.
thank you, Mr. Blanc.
I've always said he's probably the most talented person. Think about all the characters his voice was. Unbelievable!
I don't think that there is a Person in any part of the World, That did not grow up, watching & listening to at least, One of Mel's Million Cartoon Characters May he RIP & will be sadly Missed by all of his Fans etc.
Incredible talent.
I was a class clown myself and made a lot of voices and noises.
I can only imagine how hilarious Mel was in grade school and how hard it was to for teachers to get mad at someone so hilarious.
That being said …that was one of the kindest interviewers I’ve ever seen.
The guy seemed like a psychologist that really tried to get you to open up.
Television surely has left behind some of its finest days and time of its greatest talents.
What a bodacious "blast from the past" ! Wonderful interview ! Mr Blanc was not only one of the greatest voice over artists of all time but one classy gent ! Thanks for uploading this gem of a video !! :-)
Man, it's a trip, because even though all his voices sound totally different, I can hear his normal speaking voice in all of them. What a tremendous talent.
Thank you for uploading this.... this is GOLD!!!!
Rip Mel Blanc (1908-1989) *The Man Of A Thousand Voices*
For any fan of his cartoon characters this interview is priceless. Pure gold. I'm sure a lot of viewers always wondered about how the characters came to be and the man behind them and this interview goes a long way toward satisfying that wonder. As long as this medium exist those characters will live on. Long live Mel Blanc.😃
THEY WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER MEL BLANK, THE GREATEST ANIMATIONS COME TO LIFE.
So sad the world has lost so many greats. As a child I was blessed with the Mel Blanc amazing cartoon characters never knowing he was the genius behind them all. Now I'm discovering a wonderful person he was.
Thanks for uploading this!! Amazing Find!! Mel just one of the best voice actors there ever will be, and one of the most humble and brilliant person on Earth. This was a real treat to see.
By giving such distinct voices to so many unique characters with such vastness between the characters personalities, he made them real. Through giving them the voices he made them real people. They weren't characters, they were distinct, living persons.
What a legend... how amazing this interview survived!
Believe me, I'm more stunned than anyone -- it was labelled on the tape but (unlike the Peter Tork one) I had thought I was too late to save it and that Dennis had taped over it to archive episodes of our early '80s show in Texas (where the George Strait feature on this channel came from), until I took a batch of tapes in to be digitized and when I got and watched the discs -- Holy moley, it was all on there intact! And though I posted this here without ads or other monetization, since WB recently licensed some footage from it on their Bugs Bunny 80th birthday program, both Dennis and myself got a nice little paycheck. (BTW, now I'm wondering... is that Bugs special the impetus for the upswing in views and comments of late?) -- KWL aka 1B2S
The Best ever . 🥳🤩😘
Made my childhood special and extremely enjoyable. A talent that will never be anything less than brilliant regardless of the century.
This man meant so much to so many. There aren't too many people in your life outside of family that made an impact on you once a week (Saturday mornings) that you will remember forever. Mel Blanc is similar to Walt Disney, except Mel didn't just help create his characters, he performed the voices of these characters and brought them to life in our living rooms! Simply incredible.
Thanks for the memories, Mel. You are one of the most beloved and talented people to ever grace Hollywood.
@rivk maher My childhood was greatly impacted by Walt Disney, Stephen Hillenburg, Bill Nye, Julie Andrews, Mel Blanc. So happy I grew up with those classic icons throughout my whole life and the rest of us❤️💗! Childhood greatly impacted by the classic Disney movies, science lectures, Saturday mornings etc.🥰
My hero :,)💞 #MelBlanc 🐰💕
This is one of the best Mel Blanc interviews I've ever watched.
Voice actors are some of my entertainment heroes, with Mel Blanc and June Foray being my most favorite actors of them all.
Thank you for uploading this! :)
Nice interview! Great questions asked by a true fan, and Mel was so open and cool to go with the flow. He was a master of his craft!
Kenny Delmar is the name of "Senator Beauregard Claghorn"who appeared on The Fred Allen Radio Shows..Mr.Delmar also did that "Sen.Claghorn"voice for the tv cartoon character"The Hunter".
a gem to say the least...blank was, and is bugs. no one can be mel.
RIP
Mel Blanc was a genius...
What a wonderful interview
How amazing. What a great gift to unearth. Bravo Dennis
Thank you for posting this. What a wonderful man.
This is one of the best interviews with Mel that I've seen! Thanks!
I just have no words to say what this man was to me growing up. The original Daffy stuff made me so happy. Thanks Mel....you made this little boy a happy one growing up thank you.
And people of today are stunned when they learn just how many characters were actually voiced by the likes of Mike Judge, Seth McFarland and all their respective co-starring voice actors be it Alex Borenstein or Hank Azaria...All very talented people in their own right...
Then there's "The King" " The Legendary" Mel Blanc! My opinion, with this very talented dear sweet man, his many voices, the fact that He basically "Invented the Industry" all those Saturday Mornings eating our cereal watching Character after Character, JUST IMAGINE HOW MANY HE INSPIRED?
I'll go as far to say NO MEL BLANC? No South Park, No King of the Hill, No Beavis & Butthead, No Family Guy etc...Get my point?
Tom Kenny??? While I appreciate the voice actors you named, you have to at least mention the mel blanc of my generation
Oh, just as he started talking about playing Professor LeBlanc with Jack Benny the video ended! I wanted to hear what he had to say!
I was raised on Bugs Bunny. This is a great interview. The interviewer did the best job I have seen.
hard to believe this was 40 years ago... that means Mel started doing this 81 years ago!!
Priceless....Thank You!
And Dennis Tardan, the interviewer, is now 71! Great interview of the most famous voice in all of Hollywood.
Kelly Cox Actually, “voices”!
Thank you for making this video available for viewers...FANTASTIC
That was a great interview enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
pure gold
THIS IS WONDERFUL. Thank you!
It's 2019 Nov 25 and gotta say I often wonder if he knew the legacy he left behind. I grew up as a kid in the late 60 and 70s sat morn cartoons which is also gone ..but I watch to the point that can say I seen them all..unless they have hidden ones that were not released .
Great Man ..we almost lost him in the car accident.. He told the doctor . .
What's up doc when they asked him to speak after waking up from the accident thought it was something... Jack Benny George Burns and others in his life. What a great group of ppl... Salute Mel Blanc.
Babbit and Catstello (1942) - Babbit: "Give me the bird! Give me the bird!" Catstello: "If the Hayes Office would let me, I'd give em the bird alright!"
A true American icon and hero. Just got to love this guy... amazing talent.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Tarden. 👍👋
Now this was the original "Grandmaster Mel" 🌟🙋🌟
Thank you for uploading this. Mel Blanc was one of a kind
This man was a legend’ still a legend’ a true craftsman’ he brought so much joy to my childhood and adult life’ not a day passes that I don’t think or put myself into the shoes of a Blanc character’ kids today will never know what it was like to sit and watch the genius and entertainment of this man and WB from the Golden Era of cartoons’ today, sadly there isn’t anything that could hold a candle to this mans legacy’ now that’s a legacy to be proud of.
This man is the voice of millions of childhoods around the world, whether his voice work had been translated, its was still "his" translated voice. I owe this man the last great and pure childhood of humanity, right before technology replaced human relations.
What a great interviewer, he got Mel to open up really well, they had a great rapport together. Thanks for posting!
truly a beautiful interview.
