- An intimate chat with the champions… Sit down and get to know what drives the likes of World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen and Olympic record holder in hurdling Karsten Warholm to be the very best in their respective fields.
Not just the Olympic record holder. He’s the world record holder!
@Lordeverfall100 A black dude plays golf?
@@stianfossen5327 he does?
Magnus?
Why is this surprising
@Lordeverfall100 You're the one who asked if a white dude was the best at running his analogy makes sense
This felt like some epic trailer for a documentary I would 1000% watch
„It’s not about reaching a goal, it’s about having a goal“ what a quote
Must be really cool for them to chat with someone else who's also the best in the world at something. Not an experience that many people are familiar with!
As one of the dumbiest people the world has ever seen, I would be glad to share my knowledge and best advices to them. Should I give it a try ?
Even cooler that they do it in a foreign language !
I expected an awkward conversion with them just praising each other, but they really shared some interesting stuff about their unique position at the very top.
@@vandboeffel it's not that cool. English is a very easy to learn especially because it's so commonly used in the internet and games and other stuff. English isn't my native language either but I learned it from the internet and video games much better than from school.
I love seeing these crossovers between world class competitors...
Actually they are not just world class they are GOAT, that means only world class people can hold their candle against them but can't defeat them....
This man really won the world championship whilst not being fully focused and motivated
nepo´s blunders also helped
For a player o Nepo's level blunder, must have a good reason don't you agree?
He is just so much better than the rest. He can play at 90% and win most tournaments (I am sure he is being honest here). Kasparov had a true equal in Karpov, at least for a decade. Magnus really has no equal.
- Caruana struggled just to hold an even match, he wasn't even trying to win, took few risks then got destroyed in the rapid tie-breaks.
- Ding is too inconsistent.
- Nepomniatchi is brilliant but can get erratic and frustrated in long strategic grinds.
- Alireza as we all can see is inexperienced and seriously over-rated (he is no 18yr old Magnus)
-Nakamura can be brilliant and adventurous but he is also impulsive and inconsistent.
- Giri and Duda are simply not close enough to his class
he was definitely completely focused the first 6 games. They were absolutely even until game 6. Media destroyed nepos mentality and then he played worse
Nepo is trash.
Magnus, I don't know if this motivates you, but what you've achieved in your life is huge inspiration and motivation to hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Few people can say this about their life's passions. Because of your accomplishments you continue to give meaning to other people and this is hugely important to humanity as a whole. You've done incredible things and continue to do so. I hope you reach 2900 and I hope you continue to find joy in chess. This would be a most meaningful achievement. You're the very best.
Altruism is reverse-morality and goes against human nature. It's nice to give but so long as it's optional. Altruism is an evil concept that keeps you handcuffed.
I like how they confidently put "Chess Genius" on the title. Magnus deserves this title well!
Carlsen is the GOAT of chess and he needs someone who is also brilliant in chess to motivate him to reach higher levels. This is what it feels like when you are on the top and by yourself, with no motivation to actually climb the next mountain. However, MC is a great example of someone who makes goals for himself and life is all about achieving your own goals and surpassing them, rather than competing with others! MC proves that within this video.
He's not the goat. Fisher was the goat. Most charismatic and dominated the world during a time there was no BS bots to learn from and practice against or play thousands of times against computers in your leisure. There was only playing in real life over the board the way it always should be. No cheating in preparation with computers telling you the best lines.
More like he has climbed every mountain and needs someone to get close to stand on to reach higher.
@@kenmastersmaster lmao. Imagine thinking its cheating to use stockfish to practice chess🤡
@@alexanderkarlsson1536 oh it's Alexander karlsson from Sweden commenting
You know what Norwegians say... They send all their 400 elos to Sweden to become college professors 🤡🤡🤡
To be honest, this is what makes Olympics so special. You not only have more preparation time, but the best of the best are not that far from you, so you always have to give your best to win. Even with Phelps, he always had very strong competition, but even he was finding it difficult to start a new cycle. Having the world championship almost every year takes a big toll on Magnus, especially because he only has to lose (he doesn't gain anything he already doesn't have and if he loses, everyone will go on and on about how he's not the best ever).
Hard to understand how hard it is to find motivation when you are the absolute #1.
That's why win number 2 is the most difficult, most of the time.
Doing something great, once, takes a lot, doing it again takes even more.
Agadmator, ready to take note on this game.
It's kinda sad that MC is not motivated to play for the WC anymore :( At the same time I understand him
Look how life dictates itself like,
MAGNUS is in his early 30s and he has achieved so much that one can't even dream of and then there's so many people who struggles their whole 20s and 30s to just make a name for themselves.
Truly inspirational he is. 💯
One can say chess is just a silly waste of time and he hasnt accomplished anything outside the game
So basically the rest of the chess players struggling around 2800 is ruining Carlsens hope of reaching 2900.
If he wins a match it's 1 step forward, but a draw is 4 steps back and a loss is 1 year setback.
So i guess he don't want to waste months on months preparing for a WC he already know he will win :)
Sidenote: This channel should atleast have 1 million subs!
That's a really cool video. Thanks for sharing. I remember Karsten running at the Olympics and was wowed. And Magnus, well... he's Magnus.
Norway the breeding ground of legends
Great interview with Magnus Carlsen & Karsten Warholm!...
The 2900 rating seems almost unattainable. It becomes harder all the time to win in modern chess and every draw pulls his rating down.
Capablanca said the same thing as Magnus about youth vs experience. That with age he had more knowledge but less energy. More experience but less
ambition.
It's not achieving the objective but having one. Very powerful mindset ! It's rare to see ego burst from Magnus such as "the objective is not that far, the others are just too far behind" what a player!
It’s really nice to hear he’s gunning for 2900! So good to have goals. Glad he’s not giving up chess. World champion matches don’t matter much to me either (since I’m not ever gonna be one lol)
The problem we have in WC matches is there isn't an opponent good enough to take the game to Magnus, as it were. They barely hold draws with white.
"No one is good enough to push for a win with white and take risks against me, which is quite frustrating" (Magnus Carlsen, 2019)
Magnus is not only the best, he is the greatest ever..big differnce.
Two fantastic norwegian sportsmen! Keep it up boys, make Harald Rex and the rest of us proud!
Both have that Viking Spirit.
Next series. Discipline work ethics while avoiding burnout. Please
Thanks for the insights, mate. I have a hard time foreseeing a future where you are not fighting for the Championship. However, this shows your emotions on the subject, and I understand a bit better now. You are always number one regardless of how that situation resolves. I hope you get the challengers you deserve. Chess will feel hollow if you and your heart is not in it. All the best, Champ.
Imagine the super human we could make if we just combined their DNA somehow
this whole video is the ultimate flex in chess history
He basically explains why he don't want to be in WCC
I've been saying he needed to meet Karsten all this time and when he actually meets him I still don't believe it.
Surprisingly insightful video. And thanks for keeping it in English!
Ngl Ingebrigtsen and Magnus would be cool, two Norwegian legends
I feel like Magnus is not only great at chess but he's secretly a great gamer. I wonder what it would be like if he played other games, be it video games, board games, card games
This is pure gold😂
I mean you can use it if you want to
But was the "😂" really necessary
@@Ghkgyyfghbffeghfcde The OP didn't actually watch the video.
Magnus is few words: I'm so good at chess now I need no efforts to win even the world championship. I want the feeling of working hard to achieve my goal back. Basically he like Saitama from One Punch Man.
Now that was a cool sit down.
It is always wonderful to know about Magnus' ideas. Expecting more videos like that. Die hard fan from Pakistan. ❤️ 🔥
Yh younger Magnus was something magnificent! Older Magnus is still incredibly impressive and not to be triffled with but that younger Magnus was almost mystical!
he puts genius in his own titles. Gotta love the humility of this dude
He is not managing the account, and who would argue that he is not?
Extraordinary ambitions drives the soul to extraordinary achievements. As a linguistic student, I have to study six to eight hours four times a week or so, not only because of my goals but, above all, because it motivates me to do something that will make a difference in my life and everyone's else lives around me. I started playing chess recently to enlarge my thought, and have found a new willpower for what I want in my life. Sometimes, that willpower can be foud somewhere else and just connected to what we love doing the most. However, it's sort of natural to feel bored at doing something you're so great at doing. I think that is the border that makes us feel not so different from the people around us, in a way. As for me, I like following your career a lot Sir Magnus, it really inspires me. 😃🥇
they say that the chess camera man lives there to this day
Carlsen is clearly the strongest human. These days, bots crush humans. Humans train with bots, but the strongest humans don't try to cheat. So we get to witness some amazing games from Carlsen where he plays opening innovations based on computer play. He might make some inaccurate moves, but as he continues to learn, he is able to bring in the victories more and more frequently.
Very nice Video. Both are great Athletes
I clicked out when they don't show the chess game at the end
The only thing stopping Magnus from reaching 2900 is lack of competition. Even if he draws against 2750-2800s he's losing rating points. If he wins he only gets +1 or +2
That is how the ELO system works. If you play against worse opponents you're expected to win or else you'll lose points. If you win against a worse player you haven't really proven you're better than your current rating, so your current rating doesn't change much.
If his opponents were rated higher they'd be better than they currently are, so probably Magnus would lose more games. It makes little sense to just say he'd be at 2900 if his opponents were rated higher
Why not subtitle them speaking in Norwegian? So much more natural.
Magnus is preparing for his new chessboxing career.
Warholm's reactions at some of Carlsen's statements lmao 😂
GOAT, not only at chess but also as a role model to follow 🙏
This is such a motivational video for me. i just got an answer for a question which was holding me back since long time. Thanks Magnus♥♥♥♥♥
You make us happy and proud by giving your best, Magnus. We are thrilled to be able to know you as „our“ worlds champion. As a child it was Kasparov for me, and I never thought, there would be someone that amazing ever again. Luckily I was wrong. I spent hundreds of hours following your games, and often this carried me through otherwise seriously shitty days. And seeing all this GMs of your generation, competing while being humble, respectful and connected, you are a big part of that movement, a role model. You all brought a lot of spirit back into that old game. What a ride from 2013 to 2900 …. Just numbers though
What is the name of the background music?
maybe the greatest, but he is definitely the coolest champ ever.
He has to be in the same league as the greats. He is a once in a generation player who took over where Kasparov couldn't - taking down highly booked (computered) top GMs with little opening preparation (Magnus of 2012 - 2014), destroying them in what should be theoretically drawn middle-games or grinding a win in slightly better endgames, holding a draw against Kramnik at 18yrs in a worse end-game and in time trouble.
MC's running form is rated at 450 ELO
i like to think that he chose the title for the video
Magnus reminds me a little of Capablanca around 1925. he only became really motivated after losing his title.
To bad he never got a rematch for the title
His running form is pretty good
They are both Norwegians
More of these please
It is so sad not finding someone to lose to :')
Bagnus barlson, wagnos warlson, cagnus carlsen, zagnus zarlson, xagnos xarlson
Ratings goals, at this level, are difficult to attain, since your ceiling is gated by the level of your competition. A more realistic goal would be to be undefeated and let the rating take care of itself.
Excellent feature. Inspiring
Thank you magnus we all have the same way to drive.
Imagine Magnus withdrawing the next WCC and coming back afterwards through the Candidates xD
Omg this thing really motivated me
Was it Puma shirts they were wearing? Felt like a blink and miss
0:40 meanwhile in magnus head... mate in 10
Do the Ingebrigstens too that would be amazing.
damn Nepo hit with a ricochet shot outa nowhere
Magnus should set his goal to be #1 for longest all time. Difficult, but should keep him motivated to play world championship matches.
Why should it? He said the WC doesn't motivate him.
Next do Ingebrigtsen! He would have a thing or two to say about work ethic and goals, for sure
You still don’t have chess960 world championship
the subtitle be like
"I would go porn..."
"Nice.."
Must be hard to keep motivated when u are already the best in the World for so many years
I think Fisher's rating was 2900.
Learning how to hurdle! Nice!
Yeah that was the world record rating. But you know, that was back in 2014 when I knew much less about chess than I do now
😲😲😲
You can do it. Both of you.
Inspiring, thank you!
Magnus will be talked about for hundreds of years to come but if we're talking about one single historical performance he can never top Warholm`s unreal 400m hurdles in Tokyo.
You really inspire me magnus.
Magnus is respect holder :)
You are already a legend :)
Karsten vs Carslen . Would have been a 🔥title. 😂
The two greatest in their sport
everyone: magnus is humble
magnus: Chess Genius Me
He is still being humble (joke)
El vacio de quienes lo tienen todo....bien por Carlsen que mueve el culo buscando nuevas metas...eso tambien es ser INTELIGENTE!!!
0:23 Tania Sachdev in the background.
Imagine your problem and obstacle to your goal is you are too good.
If this doesn't motivate you. What will
I can destroy Warholm in chess and demolish carlsen in running!
well do it then, whats stopping you?
@@rosefinnen1015 i will, just watch me then!
I read Karlsen Wormhole for some reasons
Ole Magnus Cragnus on the hunt
the guy is talking about life goals and is trying to sound very wise and magnus says, yea i want to reach 2900 rating lol
Magnus is Saitama who needs a worthier opponent to improve himself
Magnus needs a real anime/manga montage moment when he realizes that his opponents are not across the board, but between his ears. No one, realistically, can or has beat him at his best.
Being human beings, not computers, we have different struggles at different points of our journey. Sometimes we need to improve, sometimes we need to maintain, sometimes we need find what fuels our passion.
I love that Magnus has a goal, and its motivating for him.....what happens when he reaches it?
Surely that would be the greatest achievement in chess history. So what happens then? Would it be acceptable for Magnus to retire? Surely he has earned the right to go on and do anything else in life he wants, he technically already has earned that right, but....
What if he wants to keep playing? How do you ever find a new goal after 2900? 2950 doesnt quite have the same ring to it, and considering how hard climbing to that Elo would be in the first place, might not even be possible if the other competitors stay at lower 2700/2800 ratings.
I would tell Magnus, as if my advice was even wanted or needed, but I would tell him not to focus on 2900. That goal, while achievable, has an ending. Humans dont do well competitively when there are ending goals. So many other sport champions, after winning their respective titles, never reach the peak again. Its truly hard to find the motivation or drive to do so, all the while battling age and health.
Chess is so unique. Your mind is your weapon. You can tear your Achilles heel and still be world champion. Your body breaking down wont inhibit your ability to play.
I would encourage Magnus to have a goal of loving chess. Only loving the game. Pure and simple. When, and if, he can do that, 2900 is still achievable...BUT after 2900 is reached, the motivation is still there. Perfect play will result from the clearest thoughts, and nothing clears the mind better than a peaceful spirit. Loving the game will bring a peaceful spirit, clear mind, and eventually, 2900 and above.
1:00 well said
