Ok y’all, listen up: Percussion includes anything you hit to make the sound, which includes piano, bc the strings are hit with hammers, not plucked. Saxophone is a woodwind bc it has a single reed, instead of a mouthpiece. The flute/piccolo is the only exception to this woodwind vs. brass rule. Oboe is a double reed woodwind, and is quite difficult to play. And it’s sister instrument, the *English Horn* , is my pick for best instrument to hear in a soundtrack. Look it up, it’s haunting💕
Piano is usually just generally thrown into the string category. But if you want to get technical you could call it a “chordophone” which is the name they gave to mean it was between a string and a percussion instrument

Easter- or Eostre, as the Pagans spell it- is yet another one of those holidays that Catholics and Christians… shall we say _“borrowed?”_ It’s a fertility celebration, which is where the Eggs and Rabbits come from. In a nutshell, Spring, which when everything is born, or comes back to life after the cold, dark, dead of Winter.
Easter isn't borrowed from pagans, that is just a modern myth that comes from social media. The holiday amongst Christians is really called Pascha, so its true name is not an adaptation of the pagan Eostre. It being called Easter in the West DOES come from Eostre, but because Eostre was a time period on the calender, not a specific day and Easter fell during this time on the calendar. As well, it was not just an attempt to change something from pagan to Christian. What the Christian Pascha celebrates is an objectively Christian event that we think actually happened, its not just a Christianized version of a pagan story. And it falls on a pagan holiday because literally every single day ever is a holiday to some pagan out there. It would be impossible to establish a holiday on a day that isn't a holiday to some pagan. And it doesn't even always fall on this same day, this "pagan holiday." The date for Pascha is different every year for Christians, and even then there are two different dates. Orthodox Christian Easter (Pascha) and Western Christian Easter rarely fall on the same day. The rabbit is a thing that, yes, does not come from Christianity. Orthodox and Catholic Christians (the original Christians) typically don't use easter bunnies, at least in official capacities such as Church celebrations. Eggs come from an Eastern Christian story in which Mary Magdalene went to dine with the emperor, and brought a basket of eggs as a gift. She tells the emperor about the resurrection of Christ, to which he replies that the story is as likely as all the eggs changing color. Right as he finishes speaking, all the eggs in the basket turn blood red. This is why originally, Easter eggs in Eastern Christian celebrations were only red, not many colors. This story specifically isn't necessarily one that absolutely happened, but it is the traditional origin of Christian easter eggs.
@@BesaDelCielo14x Exactly! That’s why Christmas is celebrated in December. Because Winter Solstice was celebrated first. It marked the end of the shortest day and the beginning of the longer, warmer days that follow.
For the naps thing, humans used to sleep twice a day. One at night and a smaller one at like 2-3 basically humans would do all their work the first half of the day, sleep, then spend the rest of the day/night just hanging out or eating the shit they caught but because of the 9-5 Capitalistic system, you can't do that anymore. almost no one gets enough sleep at the end of the day also fun fact its kinda still a thing in spain, where from 2-5 in smaller towns all the shops will close, evryone will just go home to eat lunch and have a nap then from 5 onward the next shift of work happens
Sean getting the details of the demon core kind of right is strangely eerie lol Edit: okay them both being like half right about a bunch of things is a little frustrating, but I guess that's why podcasts have good engagement
So Easter might be an Old German word resurrection. The easter bunny may have been introduced to America via German immigrants. Upon further research it was a egg-laying hare called “Osterthase” or “Oschter Haws.” Its around the same time as the Spring Equinox so a lot of people now celebrate Easter of a time of renewal and fertility. 🤷♀️
The first chair of each instrument is the "best" player. You usually audition and yes they lead their group and get the solos. And it is a tuning at the beginning of the concert though it does kind of signify everyone is tuned and ready.

From someone who used to play saxophone, it is absolutely a woodwind, and you "lube it" or wet the woodwind with your spit because it's easier. Easier than having a little pot of water next to you the entire time since it is not as crucial. But with things such as the oboe it does actually need that wetness to be more consistent, so you have a small pot of water with you. I may absolutely be wrong but this is the information I learnt from my old saxophone teacher.
1:06:23 Story time: I walked into my kitchen once when I was a teenage lass, and saw a plate of bite sized fudge squares, beckoning me as they basked in the light from over the kitchen sink. Excitedly, I grabbed one and popped it into my mouth, ready for a sweet treat that can’t be beat. It was not a sweet treat. It was chopped up, raw deer liver that my mom was gonna cook up for the dogs. I’d say that’s the worst flavor to get when you’re expecting chocolate.
For the orchestra part, you’re right sean, they are also fine tuning the instruments because the warm lights from the stage can make the instrument out of tune. So they also do that to make sure your ready and to double check everything is tuned

It's scary how normalized it is to consume food with thousands of ingredients instead of just eating food with nothing but WHAT IT IS. I'd rather have simple scrambled eggs for breakfast over sugary cereal any day of the week.
I'm not watching the whole thing rn because I'm tired, but as an American, I agree about our cereals, the only ones I like are Trix(but I can't eat them anymore for 1 reason) and lucky charms, and that's only because of sugar, it's hard to make sugary things taste bad because it's sugar, also Jack's American accent sounds like Gabriel Iglesias' American cowboy/country impression
I like how out of the both of them Ethan was the one who got the identification of the saxophone correct a saxophone is a woodwind for the reason he said it's because the mouth piece or the reed is wood which makes it a woodwind a brass instrument would be a trumpet because the mouth piece is metal not wood which wood make it a brass instrument not a woodwind like a saxophone.
The guy who cut corners got what he sowed for having the lives of others and his own gone in a flash. If there's anyone who "deserves" it, it's him, imo.
Saxophone is a woodwind instrument! It does use a reed for the mouth piece, but they are also made of brass! The maker of the Saxophone, Adolphe Sax, maker of other instruments, he was also a very sad man. Saxophone is also a distant cousin to the baritone. (Ref: I played tenor and baritone sax for 11 years)
ethan being the type of person with adhd who isn't affected by caffeine and jack being the type of person with adhd who is affected by caffeine is great. I've always pictured and categorised the months and seasons the way Jack said Ireland does! Very interesting. Halloween just feels like the end of Autumn, and February feels like Spring for some reason
To answer some of the instrument and band questions they had. A saxophone is indeed a woodwind, reeds are also made from a cane plant similar to sugar cane. Also 1st chair basically means you are the best of the section and play the more difficult parts. If you want to know my qualifications I played the french horn for 8 years and I agree that they are underrated.
Player of clarinet, tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, and bassoon here. Single reeds *can* be started by submersion in water, but excess water in the wood can run the risk of making it too soft and more difficult to get a good intonation. A lot of it comes off in the mouth anyway, so it doesn't matter *all that much* for casual playing or beginning practice, but because it is ***not*** acceptable for performances most people don't bother getting in that habit. It also makes it, at least in my experience, almost as likely to break as if it were under-hydrated. Double reeds on the other hand, such as bassoon, oboe, and English horn, *need* to be submerged in water as they need to be *extremely* well hydrated. 2 pieces of wood vibrating in a way complementary to each other is what creates the sound, so a double reed that isn't wet enough can cause severe cracks, outright breakage, a hollow or shallow sound, terrible intonation, and unnecessary strain on the embouchure (shape and position of the mouth) that can make playing for a while tiring and much more difficult. Also - saxophone *is* a woodwind, because it uses a reed to produce sound ;P Reed you blow across = wood with wind. Because of the signature full sound, some consider it to be more like brass in the vibes, but that's not the actual classification. Woodwinds need a single or double reed to play (with the exception of flute and idk for sure why). Brass needs the vibration of the mouth itself to carry through the whole instrument. Also also - Timpani is already the plural! Timpano, as goofy as it sounds, is the singular. :) "Timpanis" is generally only used when referring to multiple sets of distinct timpani, and even that isn't *technically* appropriate (but lets be real- we all say it in that case).
Talking about instruments makes me nostalgic for my marching band days. I was in percussion (mostly xylophone like stuff) and my fave one was the vibraphone! It has a pedal like a piano but u play it with mallets, and I had to learn how to use two mallets in each hand! It was super fun.

I’m pretty sure I remember Evelien mentioning watching it with Sean at some point! It was definitely a surprising one.
Easter- or Eostre, as the Pagans spell it- is yet another one of those holidays that Catholics and Christians… shall we say _“borrowed?”_
It’s a fertility celebration, which is where the Eggs and Rabbits come from. In a nutshell, Spring, which when everything is born, or comes back to life after the cold, dark, dead of Winter.
Came here to say this 👍
It was an attempt to get pagans onboard with the Jesus.
Thank you, ive always wondered. I knew it was originally a pagan holiday, but never knew what it meant
For the naps thing, humans used to sleep twice a day. One at night and a smaller one at like 2-3
basically humans would do all their work the first half of the day, sleep, then spend the rest of the day/night just hanging out or eating the shit they caught
but because of the 9-5 Capitalistic system, you can't do that anymore. almost no one gets enough sleep at the end of the day
also fun fact its kinda still a thing in spain, where from 2-5 in smaller towns all the shops will close, evryone will just go home to eat lunch and have a nap
then from 5 onward the next shift of work happens
New drinking game, everytime Ethan or Sean says "we should have _____ on the podcast" take a shot"
Sean getting the details of the demon core kind of right is strangely eerie lol
Edit: okay them both being like half right about a bunch of things is a little frustrating, but I guess that's why podcasts have good engagement
So Easter might be an Old German word resurrection. The easter bunny may have been introduced to America via German immigrants. Upon further research it was a egg-laying hare called “Osterthase” or “Oschter Haws.”
Its around the same time as the Spring Equinox so a lot of people now celebrate Easter of a time of renewal and fertility. 🤷♀️
Has Seán always done that little laugh when he stops talking and I'm just noticing it?
Last night I went to an Irish themed pub... It's The closest I can get to feeling like I'm in an Irish Pub
The first chair of each instrument is the "best" player. You usually audition and yes they lead their group and get the solos. And it is a tuning at the beginning of the concert though it does kind of signify everyone is tuned and ready.
I'm happy sean knows so much about white star line.
It's cool to hear Ethan say that Columbus day is now Indigenous People's day :) I'm Mohawk from Ontario Canada, and I was part of one of the many camera crews who were documenting the first Indigenous People's day on Alcatraz Island in 2018, and it was an amazing experience (and early in the morning lol)
Sean over here like he doesn't literally OWN the only cure for sadness 😭😂
Hearing Sean and Ethan talking about the history of the titanic made me smile cause my sister knows so much about the titanic and hearing Sean playing the trumpet and hearing Ethan playing the trumpet and tumbo as well made me happy
For Slovenia seasons are: winter=December-March; spring=March-June; summer=June-September; fall=September-December
That's the same as me in the northwest U.S. We're very close in latitude, go figure. Also I saw pictures of your country and it looks incredible!
American jacksepticeye jumpscare 😧
Sean sounds like a country singer at the start. I love listening to people try to do American accents lol
It makes me so happy that Ethan played the baritone
From someone who used to play saxophone, it is absolutely a woodwind, and you "lube it" or wet the woodwind with your spit because it's easier. Easier than having a little pot of water next to you the entire time since it is not as crucial. But with things such as the oboe it does actually need that wetness to be more consistent, so you have a small pot of water with you. I may absolutely be wrong but this is the information I learnt from my old saxophone teacher.
Ah yes, the "america" theme episode, my favorite!
Sean roast us Americans more please!!! You had me rolling 🤣🤣
For the orchestra part, you’re right sean, they are also fine tuning the instruments because the warm lights from the stage can make the instrument out of tune. So they also do that to make sure your ready and to double check everything is tuned
Jacksepticeye's american accent is really good actually
*southern American accent. It's easier to affect a thick, distinct drawl than to do the subtle non-accent accent of a midwest or Mid-Atlantic cadence.
Christopher Columbus was an italian explorer that couldn't convince italians to fund him for a trip to "india" so he convinced spanish king and thus went there with Spain's ships. But he was italian.
As someone who lives in Northern Ireland.... Sean is wrong and Ethan is right on the months in each season.... I don't have a clue where Sean got his info because I learned the same as Ethan in school lol
One of my biggest hyperfixations are sunken ship wrecks, so hearing sean talk about the brittanic was just amazing
The longer Sean stays in America the more American his accent becomes.
Oboe and basson soaks their reeds in water, clarinets and sax's just keep them in their mouth, it's about the vibration that it needs to be wet
It's scary how normalized it is to consume food with thousands of ingredients instead of just eating food with nothing but WHAT IT IS.
I'd rather have simple scrambled eggs for breakfast over sugary cereal any day of the week.
This made me realize I really need to go see some movie concerts. I would absolutely lose my mind at a HTTYD concert
Ethan has brought up the barbie movie on every episode of Leak Week and I am living for it.
8 seconds after posting? Lesgooooo
Saxophone is a woodwind instrument! It does use a reed for the mouth piece, but they are also made of brass! The maker of the Saxophone, Adolphe Sax, maker of other instruments, he was also a very sad man. Saxophone is also a distant cousin to the baritone. (Ref: I played tenor and baritone sax for 11 years)
jack just hates things that are good and nice because he is so scary and evil :)
ethan being the type of person with adhd who isn't affected by caffeine and jack being the type of person with adhd who is affected by caffeine is great. I always see viral tweets about ppl with adhd who caffeine makes them sleepy and I'm here like. can't relate. it helps me focus on the morning but can make me hella anxious and if I have caffeine too close to bed time I will NOT sleep, and I struggle with falling asleep enough as it is.
I think Sean is right Columbus was Italian but his ship was Spanish right?
yep, the Queen of Spain funded the expedition.
The way Irish map out seasons is how I’ve always mapped our seasons in my head
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought OceanGate was the name of the situation, not the company 😂
idk why i get so excited when people say they want to learn the cello (probably because I am a cellist), but it really makes me happy! it can be pretty hard to learn, but with time, youll love it.
Also, a Saxophone IS a woodwind instrument, not brass.
Never been this early :D
I fucking love these guys ❤
Keep up the good work
As an Australian it’s so weird hearing how different the seasons are for them; summer- December, January, February. autumn- march, April, may. Winter- June, July, august. Spring- September, October, November.
love the frantic camerawork in this adhd case study
In Alaska we follow Jack's season months also, though February is still winter, and there's only 2 months of spring.
i so feel that arcane moment ''she just wanted her sister'' brings me to tears everytime
I love that Ethan was taking care of chica and Henry :(((( ♡
I'm loving this podcast so much and its nice to see you guys together!!!!! I cant wait for more videos!!!!
The earliest I've ever been and the best vibes after a 9 hour work shift is Jack speaking in a country accent
