Hi, I just wanted to let you know the rats should always be kept in group's of 2 or more, they can get extremely depressed and have other problems, we all make mistakes at first, I know from experience but it is always such a great feeling when your rats are happy
I got a new baby rat about a week ago (Lark). She isn't really scared of me (takes treats from my hand but doesn't let me pet her) but doesn't care to spend any time at all with me and will not let me touch her other than when she is eating. The first couple of days she liked being in my shirt but she doesn't stay there any more. I know you are supposed to hold them every day but she is so crazy and filled with energy that she will not consent to being held even when there is food. An example of her crazyness is that right now after two hours out of the cage running around the room I put her in the cage and she is chewing on the bars! I have already tamed my other rat (Wren) so though she doesn't want to snuggle she is not at all scared of me, the not snuggling thing is her personality. Problem is that Lark does not care about food near as much as Wren does. I don't really know how to go about taming her because I know she will not stay in a pouch and I don't think she would stay under the covers of a blanket. Any help would be welcomed. I know we will get there in the end but I would like that to be as soon as possible. I don't have much time for them because I am going to school all day so they only get two hours of free time everyday.
Hello! I'm glad to see you back on youtube. :) I watched your rat videos starting about a year back, and they helped me learn the best way to care for rats, and convince my parents to let me get them. I've got 3 girls now, almost 7 months old, and it's so nice to see that you've gotten more little ratties.
I had 2 little rats a little while ago and they were the cutest pet's i've ever been around. Sadly they passed away a little while ago and I haven't considered getting new ones yet but I still really love the little cuties.
This is very helpful i am watching these before i get a rat , i always wanted one after i seen how relaxed this one was at the pet store, like it trusted anyone and everyone and everyTHING around it, im so excited now!!
same, my first two were also feeders but seem to be doing pretty well. im getting a 3rd in the next few days, and he’s coming from a breeder this time so he’s socialized and used to people, unlike feeders. how are your ratties doing now? are they used to being picked up and handled?
@@jacksonns333 they are total sweeties. Unfortunately one passed away due to respiratory related issues but the other boy is my heart rat. An absolute sweetie
We have had 9 rats so far and we are looking after a couple for a friend. We were a little nervous at first about how quickly they would be actively friendly but in fact we haven't had any problems at all. Rats seem to be genuinely friendly and even the shyest of our rats has been friendly. It is interesting how much of a distinct personality rats have. All 9 (+2) of them have been different but they have all been lovely little chaps. The only drawback to them as pets is that they don't live very long. I haven't got used to it when they die - I've been really upset every time.
Question about the blanket on the couch thing. Have you experienced that rats will fight with your toes? All my rats have done that and it can get quite wild. They never actually bit me hard, but they did really go toe to toe (lol) with my toes in a way they wouldn't with my fingers. I just find it funny and curious. I wonder if they don't realize that my toes are an extension of my body the same way they do my fingers, or if there is some other explanation. Getting friendly with rats is the easiest thing. I've had lots of rats and none of them have been timid. After only a couple days of a little time and patience, there should be zero issues. Rats are curious, social, smart and adaptive animals and their natural domesticated state is to explore and enjoy you and their surroundings without fear. If you're nice to them and want to be their friend, they will reward you 100%. Small tip: If you don't give them designated hideouts in the cage, like a box, the process will go much faster. It forces the rats to accept that there really is nothing to worry about and as soon as they are past that point, they don't need one anyway. Besides that, just be there and give them free access to you and that's really all you have to do.
+QualeQualeson mine love feet with socks! They are always tugging and pulling on my socks. So cute! I agree it's easier getting rats that aren't so timid. Not everyone has that option though.
I've been having problems socializing my new boys, and I've considered removing their little house from their cage. I was worried it would stress them out, but you think it will help?
Esper It has helped a lot in my case. Listen, if they are fearful from the start, not stressing them some is going to be next to impossible if you want their behavior pattern to change. My rats didn't like it at first when I just put them in the armpit of my jacket and stayed out all day with them. But as scared as they were in the beginning, they became super tight with me because I was their direct source of shelter, food and everything. If you create an environment based on their current pattern, it's only logical that that pattern will not change or change very slowly. I'll say this though, there is no substitute for being able to spend time with them. If you have little time to spend, let's say only a couple hours each day, then you might as well leave their hiding places alone. If you remove something you have to replace it with something else, otherwise it's kinda pointless and cruel.
www.etsy.com/shop/wrapcity these are called ratoobs and are very similar to the bonding pouch. It's just a scarf you wear around your neck with elastic bands on either side to hold it on, put your rat (or any other small animal) In and they'll feel very secure and comfortable while getting used to who you are
Do you have any tips on picking them up? My rats eat out of my hand when they're hungry and will crawl all over me, but the moment I try to pick them up they panic, like really panic. I need two hands to grab them and most of the times I need a couple of attempts before I succeed in picking them up and getting them out of their cage in order to explore the couch with me. So I cant really take them to my practice spot outside the cage haha. and I also have a hard time getting them back once they're out since they won't let me pick them up and will just run through my entire room..
Try to pick them up slowly. So they can see your hand and pet them gently before trying to scoop them up. try to use treats to coax them into your hand as well. It is difficult to get a grown rat out of its behavior, but with persistence and patients it can be done. Its best to handle them when they are little a whole bunch, so they get to know you.
I’m havin the same problem had mine since Friday and there friendly take food from me crawl on me but when I try to hold them or pick them up they just squirm and try jump away from me I let them run around my room and they go back in when they like cause I can’t really take them somewhere to try bonding they don’t let me pick them up

im pretty late aswell, but yeah! honey covered cheerios work too. they are quite sugary though, so be sure to feed it to them in moderation if you choose to use those instead. also, breaking them up into fours helps. they last longer and your ratties arent getting too much in one sitting. hope this helped :)
@@jacksonns333 I’m glad you replied but sadly my rats died very early. They died in July I’m pretty sure. It’s a long story, but basically my room was too cold and I had a hammock or two in their cage, and they eventually chewed the hammock and found space in between two fabric layers and they took a nap in there. Then I went to check up on them and turns out they didn’t have enough air in there. Sorry for the long reply! :( -Jacy
I just bought two rats today. I named one after one of my old rats when I was a kid. She’s super nice! Although, the other one is so shy. She poops when I touch her so I just leave her alone. I don’t want to stress her out
i know im like 4 years late but the reply you got just wasnt true and i wanted to make sure you knew that. yes, rats can have both chicken and eggs. my boys love hard boiled eggs, and will occasionally eat chicken. as long as you make sure not to give older rats(over 6 months) too much protein, you should be good. but always google before you give a new treat/food to your ratties just to be sure its safe for them :)
I love watching this is just took in 10 rescue rats a mom and her babies the babies are beautifully tempered but the poor mom is scared of everything so I hope these work!

RatGirl44 thank you so much her babies have been helping her build up her trust with me as well and so far the favorite is boiled eggs and romaine lettuce
I had a similar situation. We adopted three girls and one of them who was only 7 weeks old gave birth two weeks in! I've certainly had a time trying to tame her. She already wasn't really socialized and when she had the babies she went into defense overdrive. Can't count how many times she drew blood! Thank God finally we are making some progress. She hasn't bitten me in quite a while and she actually lets me take her out of the cage for playtime every day without a battle. She doesn't like being held or touched but it's miles better than attacking me every time my hand enters the cage! Work in progress for sure. I don't blame her! I'd be freaked out if I gave birth as a teenager recently adopted in a new home with strangers too.
I never had to tame or hand train. I just allowed my baby rats to spend TONS of time with Momma. They spend the entire day with me. When they were babies they slept right next to me in a hammock made from my blanket while I sat at my desk. They BEG to come onto Momma shoulder's every morning. They're my life.
glad i came across this video as weve had 2 new rats and 1 is very very shy and skittish. i cannot get him to come out of the cage yet but when he sees the others coming to me hands in the cage for cuddles hes started coming for a sniff now. so some improovement :)
Ahhh thank you! I got two little girls yesterday and I am waiting until they aren't so discombobulated being in a new house, and once they're settled, I'm going to be taming and training them :) Lolli and Val say thanks xoxo
We rescued black and white "fancy rat" who showed up around our house in the Spring. He's been eating the peanuts we put out for the squirrels. He's been around the house for awhile but it had gotten extremely cold here and we decided to try to catch him and bring him inside. I've never had a rat before but love animals and currently have cats and I have raised goats and other animals. It's been a couple days. He will let me pet him but is scared. Do you think a rat who has "tasted freedom" can be brought around. I work from home, so have time to spend with him. The cats have seen him up close out the window a lot so they have little interest in him anymore and I will never let than near him, at least right now. I've always wanted a rat and he seems to have picked up. He actually came up to my husband and sat on his shoe, then went to the front door acted like he wanted to come in the house. That is why we decided to catch him. It was not hard at all. I was able to just grab his tail (which I know is not a thing to do but I had to do it to get him). I'm letting him just get used to being inside right now and not pushing anything.
The best thing about rats is when you're broke, and hungry.... you can stick a skewer through them, and just place them in the toaster oven. Set it at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes, or when they start to sizzle. Its all good eat'in! Or dip them in some flour mash, and then place them in a deep fryer.... They're tail licking good!
Hi everyone! I got a baby rat on the 21st of may now 2 weeks later my boys so tamed up he can't bare to be without me. All I did was feed him food on my shoulder and I also did the under the blanket method which works at times. Shoulder rides where ever you go even outside seemed to be the easiest way.
I have that same cage for my rats. You should be covers on the ramps. One of my babies got his foot snagged in the bars. He's better now. Since I put covers on the ramps that hasn't happened.

The previous own is homeless so she didn't want to be out on the streets with Ruby so she was giving her back to the pet shop... She loves this little girl so much and I knew they would probably sell her for snake food so I took her... This video is awesome I am learning how to care for Ruby (Im still scared a little though lol)...

sounds like your rat has the aggressive gene, and there is no hope for agrressive genetics. When I encounter those types of rats I let it go in a field
@@ambriadanielsband4132 wtf bro? One of my rats was really aggressive cause we made the mistake of getting my boys from a pet store. I tried literally everything but he still bit me. Although I used to play a game where they would come for a small treat and go under my bed and then come back. He was content with that but not me. even tho he was aggressive doesn't mean I let him in the wild that is completely idiotic!
I let mine run around in my shirt when I had them. It tickled, but was otherwise quite fun. Eventually they would ride my shoulder and groom my ears and stuff. I miss those two. They got ginormous.
I don't have a bonding pouch, do you think it would suffice to use a pillowcase I've used enough to retain my smell? just lay it on my lap so I don't need fear my little boy scurrying off into the walls? my 2 are very young and VERY antisocial.

I don't know why I have never thought of this! Great idea smearing food on hands. Another good way is a small space and wear a housecoat. Start by touching the rats then picking them up and put them back where they feel safe. Builds trust. You will get there eventually and so worth it!!
Love the part w/ thebrats in the carrier... anything on how to introduce rats to another animal? My dog is bred for hunting, so I'm not sure how I should introduce them.
PJ Mobile I’m not sure, but I know that peanut butter is very thick and has to be watered down before being fed to rats. Not sure if it’s different with almond butter or not
It sounds like it has stomach problems dear cuz that sure isn't typical rat behavior, if it doesn't eat cashews there is a BIG problem there and needs to see a vet.
This actually the type if video i was looking for! I'm too worried to free roam my rats in my room because once you think you've rat proof a room it's never really rat proof lol So the couch thing and the desk idea is really nice and it's something i might do later! Been using these with my three new girls - only had them 3 days but they're doing amazing. New extreme sport: shoveling three babies into a bonding pouch and getting up before one can hurl herself back onto the sofa
I make them what I like to call, "yum yum mush" lol it sounds gorse but it's so much fun to say. It's cooked oats and fresh strawberries mush together. I then sprinkle some extra flaxseed on top and place it all on a spoon. They LOVE it and it's very healthy too😁💗🐀
What would you recommend as far as bitey rats? My Galahad likes to try to take a chunk, I think because he was alone in a tank in petsmart for two months. He'll try for a bite if your fingers are too close to the bars, but I try to have him smell me every day, I do give him treats when I sit for a while, I have also cut up a few tees of mine to make a climb rope and a hammock from.
What was the thing she had on her hand at the beginning of the video and what was that orange stuff in the water bottle at 1:45? Also what kinda rat is Fatboy (love that name btw) he's so cute and fluffy lol. And does anyone know any ways to train your rats to not poop or pee out side the cage?
I do all this stuff with my boys (except the bonding sack), they know hands aren't bad and will climb on my legs when i sit with them or the rest of me if i'm lying down, but they're still a bit skittish with too much movement and sudden noises (especially Chaplin) and won't dare let me pick them up they've been with me for almost three weeks now, so i guess I just need to give them time they weren't handled with the best of care from the girl I got them from (they were an accidental litter, so she's not a breeder) which is why I think they hate being picked up
yeah, and they flip in between some times. a second ago my one boy was in my hood and the next he's jumping and hiding when I move. but I've got the patience
I used a hooded sweatshirt with the kangaroo pouch in front and I had put mine in there and I walked around and I did the same thing with what you're saying with a bonding pouch in with the sweatshirt turned around and also will work with the kangaroo pouch I will get used to you real quick that way too

My new rats try to drag my treat coated finger inside their cage. They use their teeth but they don't break my skin. Then, they realize that they can't do that.... and they just lick the treat off. Rat behavior is so much more fun to watch than my gerbils.
"All rats have different personalities" very true, people who don't play with rats don't know this, but they're as varied and quirky as people.

I watched your rat videos starting about a year back, and they helped me learn the best way to care for rats, and convince my parents to let me get them.
I just go to the pet store and hold out my hand in the box. at least one will climb your hand. that's the one I pick
no. rats from pet stores are most likely to be sick and abused by the mass breeder they came from.
SubieLand same
Ally I got my baby rats from the pet store
TsGhosty, well give them the best darn life possible!
That’s exactly what I did they were snake food smh but my girl Dora JUMPED onto my hand and a year later she’s a spoiled little girl
This is very helpful i am watching these before i get a rat , i always wanted one after i seen how relaxed this one was at the pet store, like it trusted anyone and everyone and everyTHING around it, im so excited now!!
I got a baby feeder because there weren’t any other options in my town so they aren’t used to being picked up. Thanks for this
same, my first two were also feeders but seem to be doing pretty well. im getting a 3rd in the next few days, and he’s coming from a breeder this time so he’s socialized and used to people, unlike feeders. how are your ratties doing now? are they used to being picked up and handled?
@@jacksonns333 they are total sweeties. Unfortunately one passed away due to respiratory related issues but the other boy is my heart rat. An absolute sweetie
@@dainah105 im sorry one passed away. but i’m glad to hear the other boy is doing okay :)
My precious rat is a double rex. I have 3 and love them dearly. Super smart and loving.
I have an incredible thick, cushy, Velveteen comforter that my rats love.
One of my best purchases from Amazon.
If you remove something you have to replace it with something else, otherwise it's kinda pointless and cruel.
thanks, very helpful
maybe ur toes should stop fighting back lol....it takes 2 to fight
I am getting my first pet rats tomorrow! I'm so excited! Thanks for the tips I'll definitely use these!
All i did to "tame" my rats is treat my rats with love and showed that they don't need to be afraid so my way is easy, so our way is similar.
www.etsy.com/shop/wrapcity these are called ratoobs and are very similar to the bonding pouch. It's just a scarf you wear around your neck with elastic bands on either side to hold it on, put your rat (or any other small animal) In and they'll feel very secure and comfortable while getting used to who you are
+Emily Smith love this idea!!
Getting any animal on the planet used to you takes time. It takes patience, being calm, and treats. That will win anything over. Even humans.
IzzyvH Try getting your hand under their belly and scooping them up
Try to pick them up slowly. So they can see your hand and pet them gently before trying to scoop them up. try to use treats to coax them into your hand as well. It is difficult to get a grown rat out of its behavior, but with persistence and patients it can be done. Its best to handle them when they are little a whole bunch, so they get to know you.
Just dont ever pick them up by the tail. Thats the wrong way. Try it gently underneath the stomach
IzzyvH what sex were they?
I’m havin the same problem had mine since Friday and there friendly take food from me crawl on me but when I try to hold them or pick them up they just squirm and try jump away from me I let them run around my room and they go back in when they like cause I can’t really take them somewhere to try bonding they don’t let me pick them up
All right rats get a treat every time I get near the cage. Usually low sugar(original) Cheerios. I shake the bag, and boy they get excited.
BRO SAME! FOOD IS ONE OF THE WAYS TO MY HEART!
Brilliant video thank you....I have just adopted two females apparently 12 weeks but the biggest one is a biter doesn't want to come out the cage.....looking forward to your next video .....x
Does it draw blood, if it doesn't it's just scared, give it time.
Hey! I know I’m really late here. But I just got my rats yesterday and I’m still learning about them. Do the honey covered Cheerios work too?
im pretty late aswell, but yeah! honey covered cheerios work too. they are quite sugary though, so be sure to feed it to them in moderation if you choose to use those instead. also, breaking them up into fours helps. they last longer and your ratties arent getting too much in one sitting. hope this helped :)
:( -Jacy
@@pleasedonotdisturb..9958 i’m sorry to hear that, i’m sure before they passed they had a great life with you. they rest in ratty heaven now
I just bought two rats today. I named one after one of my old rats when I was a kid. She’s super nice! Although, the other one is so shy. She poops when I touch her so I just leave her alone. I don’t want to stress her out
I thought rats (rodents in general) are natural "granivores". Is it a good idea to feed them eggs, chicken, etc?
No rats, mice and hamsters are omnivores.
i know im like 4 years late but the reply you got just wasnt true and i wanted to make sure you knew that. yes, rats can have both chicken and eggs. my boys love hard boiled eggs, and will occasionally eat chicken. as long as you make sure not to give older rats(over 6 months) too much protein, you should be good. but always google before you give a new treat/food to your ratties just to be sure its safe for them :)
AAAAHHHH what kind of rat is Fatboy?!?!? he looks so plushy!!!! XD
my question exactly!
he looks like a double Rex.
Maybe a Harley
Tatiana Hansen ikr i have a pet rat name milly and she funny because we put a slide and she slides doqn its funnny and cute
Maybe he's the fancy rat breed. I have one named Scrabble, and he's ENORMOUS.
I love watching this is just took in 10 rescue rats a mom and her babies the babies are beautifully tempered but the poor mom is scared of everything so I hope these work!
+♡ Jessica ♡ good luck! Keep handling the babies
RatGirl44 I will thank you for replying and I fell in love with each one luckily I have 2 dcn so I should be golden ! do you have any tricks for a female who is horrified of hands
Food food food! Every time you approach the cage offer a treat she likes
I just got 2 female rats. I have watched all your videos. Thank you so much! My girls are so much happier because of all your tips and information.
Thank you so much for watching!
+Aye It's Raith congrats on your ratties! Very exciting
There's some thunder happening at the moment and they seem a bit frightened, and advice? :(
I love kiwi she's so cute I also like the black and white one they are adorable
little peppermint is so cute
My mother says RATS STEAL FOOD but rats steal my heart
*eats your heart*?
+WaffleWebkinz I do have covers, only 1 set though so sometimes they are in the wash
+RatGirl44 Try putting socks on the ladders as covers, it works really well and are really cheap!
i love rats! I had some 2 years ago. I miss them so much
How do you clean your rat cage, I want to try to do something like yours with blankets and cloths but how do you clean it?
LOL. This reminds me of the Urban Legend of the: Girl, the peanut butter, the dog, and the surprise birthday party! Look it up. Hilarious.
Very cute ratties, BTW. Good trust training.
thanks you for this video i am getting 3 new rats on Friday and have not tamed rats in three years and forgot, this is really helpful thank again
Yesterday afternoon was my first time ever holding a rat... I went in the pet store to buy an outfit for my shih tzu puppy and walked out with a rat...
Winter Sun Congratulations! Please make sure your new rattie has another rat companion. I'm not sure if you know but rats are extremely social and absolutely must be in pairs or groups. :)
Queen Of The Yaks I'll go and purchase one today then... Thanks for the advice!!!
No problem! Enjoy your new lil friends!
You’re awesome
when i put food on my hand my rat dont even sniff it he just bite me really bad to the bood and i have scars beacuse of it ..WHY? and gow to help it please..
sounds like your rat has the aggressive gene, and there is no hope for agrressive genetics. When I encounter those types of rats I let it go in a field
Ambria Daniels Band ummm why would you release it in the wild?? That’s not they’re fault for having an aggressive GENE don’t ever do that
@@ambriadanielsband4132 wtf bro? One of my rats was really aggressive cause we made the mistake of getting my boys from a pet store. I tried literally everything but he still bit me. Although I used to play a game where they would come for a small treat and go under my bed and then come back. He was content with that but not me. even tho he was aggressive doesn't mean I let him in the wild that is completely idiotic!
I have two rats Luna and Mimsy, Mimsy is 6weeks old and Luna is 4 months old. Mimsy is really shy.
They wander around the living room and play with the dogs. They are pretty cool
They are just like little dogs! I have a leash for mine I walk him and the neighbors love him :)
thats weird asf you have the same mouse as me
Overwatch Plays rat*
Compos The Whippet i think they mean computer mouse?
Roostr idk
R/woooosh
*I HAVE THE POWER*
I let mine run around in my shirt when I had them. It tickled, but was otherwise quite fun. Eventually they would ride my shoulder and groom my ears and stuff. I miss those two. They got ginormous.
i just started using baby food to bond with and train my rats and one has already almost mastered spin, the other is a bit slow
Don't you have any problems with the rats chewing on cables? Do you have to watch them the whole time while they're running free?
Awwww... way too cute. Very informative ... Love these little guys.
I don't have a bonding pouch, do you think it would suffice to use a pillowcase I've used enough to retain my smell? just lay it on my lap so I don't need fear my little boy scurrying off into the walls? my 2 are very young and VERY antisocial.
+Esper yea! That would work great
great! thanks for answering, I'm at my wits end with these poor feeder rescues.
We just had our adopted wild Black rat Scratte put to sleep after 3 years and 4 months ...the old girl was a hundred mile a hour up to a month ago then like the Energiser bunny her batteries ran down so fast ........ best small pets you could ever have pity they have so short of life span. :)
The black and white ones markings are just like my baby rat that died.
U seem to be a Great 🐀 owner 😊
It’s just a big pleasure to watch your video with these cuties 😊
P.S. all your rats r very beautiful but Your double Rex is awesome 👏 I have a weakness for those baldies ❤️
I don't know why I have never thought of this! Great idea smearing food on hands. Another good way is a small space and wear a housecoat. Start by touching the rats then picking them up and put them back where they feel safe. Builds trust. You will get there eventually and so worth it!!
I’m about to get my first two rats in a couple of weeks, will defineatly be using these tips !
Love the part w/ thebrats in the carrier... anything on how to introduce rats to another animal? My dog is bred for hunting, so I'm not sure how I should introduce them.
carefully
seriously though if anyone can answer this question that would be great
thank you i have a super scared rat and this helped so much!!!
Thanks for watching!
Yep, I use almond butter too. Never peanut butter.
What's the difference? I mean, I know one is made of almonds and one of peanuts, but why specifically use almond butter?
PJ Mobile I’m not sure, but I know that peanut butter is very thick and has to be watered down before being fed to rats. Not sure if it’s different with almond butter or not
Almond butter isn't as thick. Cashew butter is the most loved butter for rats though. P J theres a big difference in the taste of nuts.
Whats in the water bottle?
Your rats are beautiful
This was so helpful! I'm bringing my first rats home next week, I can't wait!
My rat dosent really pay attention to the treats. What should i do?
It sounds like it has stomach problems dear cuz that sure isn't typical rat behavior, if it doesn't eat cashews there is a BIG problem there and needs to see a vet.
When we got our rats they where pretty trusting around us really quickly
This actually the type if video i was looking for! I'm too worried to free roam my rats in my room because once you think you've rat proof a room it's never really rat proof lol So the couch thing and the desk idea is really nice and it's something i might do later! Would you happen to have an tips for training a rat to sit on your shoulder calmly? That's something i'd love to do and would like to hear your advice if you have any! Thanks again for this video!
Yea until your rats are tame free range time can be kinda stressful!
Also peppermint looks exactly like my little cleo Jr she's only a baby too
Thanks for your info. I have three rats. One is outgoing and the other two are shy.
You stayed awful calm when you got bit.
Oh my gosh I just have to say how much I adore you and all of your educational and amazing videos that you post thank you thank you thank you!!!:) your super smart, kind and just the best.God Bless and☮️😁❤️
Been using these with my three new girls - only had them 3 days but they're doing amazing. New extreme sport: shoveling three babies into a bonding pouch and getting up before one can hurl herself back onto the sofa
Lol that was so funny :) thanks for that visual
your videos are great!! I am planning on getting two rats this weekend or next and these videos will for sure help
+Delanie Roberts Exciting! Your going to love them!
I do the same carrier trick with my hamsters and it does work. x
+Hammy Cats69 Thats great! I thought it was a great idea!
Caleb 🐕
How did you stay so calm when the gray hooded rat bit you??
I make them what I like to call, "yum yum mush" lol it sounds gorse but it's so much fun to say. It's cooked oats and fresh strawberries mush together. I then sprinkle some extra flaxseed on top and place it all on a spoon. They LOVE it and it's very healthy too😁💗🐀
Wow- what a GREAT rat mom!!! :) they like bananas mashed in there too
What would you recommend as far as bitey rats? My Galahad likes to try to take a chunk, I think because he was alone in a tank in petsmart for two months. He'll try for a bite if your fingers are too close to the bars, but I try to have him smell me every day, I do give him treats when I sit for a while, I have also cut up a few tees of mine to make a climb rope and a hammock from.
+megane babe is he only doing it through the bars?
What was the thing she had on her hand at the beginning of the video and what was that orange stuff in the water bottle at 1:45? Also what kinda rat is Fatboy (love that name btw) he's so cute and fluffy lol. And does anyone know any ways to train your rats to not poop or pee out side the cage?
I do all this stuff with my boys (except the bonding sack), they know hands aren't bad and will climb on my legs when i sit with them or the rest of me if i'm lying down, but they're still a bit skittish with too much movement and sudden noises (especially Chaplin) and won't dare let me pick them up
they've been with me for almost three weeks now, so i guess I just need to give them time
they weren't handled with the best of care from the girl I got them from (they were an accidental litter, so she's not a breeder) which is why I think they hate being picked up
Just keep trying and hopefully they will come around.
yeah, and they flip in between some times.
a second ago my one boy was in my hood and the next he's jumping and hiding when I move. but I've got the patience
Great video!! Also what is that red stuff in their water bottle?
I was also curious about that
Sadie's Paws Its decaf black tea, I saw her reply to another comment. I thought it was apple cider vinegar.
what if they poop on the blanket and the couch though
clean it up, duh!
It’s the risk you take for..
*true love*
I tamed my rat by putting her on my shoulder everyday. The first couple weeks I had her, she went everywhere with me
I just bought like a 4 week two rats and they spend more time next to me than in a cage. That's totally enough.
I used a hooded sweatshirt with the kangaroo pouch in front and I had put mine in there and I walked around and I did the same thing with what you're saying with a bonding pouch in with the sweatshirt turned around and also will work with the kangaroo pouch I will get used to you real quick that way too
+Jenny Windle good idea!
ahhh I am getting some rats soon and I been learning about rats for months and feel ready to get rats . I had a hamster named panda but sadly pasted at 3 years old . I came up with rats names I like astro , Venus, cosmo' and many more thanks this vidoe really helped and hopefully me and my soon to be rats can be easy to tame.
My new rats try to drag my treat coated finger inside their cage. They use their teeth but they don't break my skin. Then, they realize that they can't do that.... and they just lick the treat off.
Rat behavior is so much more fun to watch than my gerbils.
They got a hammock bed so cute.
