- available from my Sailing Book Library www.gentlesailing.com/ This is a totally revised version (v12) of my best selling book FRENCH CANAL ROUTES TO THE MEDITERRANEAN. I have included updated information as well as new charts and photographs together with links to transport companies and marinas with cranes.
Good route to avoid Orcas and a really good experience! Спорт
Sounds like an invaluable updated Edition for many people. Best Wishes for its success. Bob in Wales. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
Thank you Bob for watching and the good wishes
A fabulous read thank you. I’ve just ordered a print from Dox so it’ll be to hand in hard copy 😊 very pleased that I’ve found your RUclips account, very enjoyable👌
So pleased you found it useful.. Thank you. Would love some feedback on Dox when you get it.

I found them online but because they don't deliver outside UK not had any actual hard copy experience
@@SailingGently I’ll let you know once I’ve received it, the only issue when ordering was that the Dox site identified that the PDF page size is set to a non standard (UK/European) size. I’ll detail in an email to you in due course. Kind regards John
@@oldscooldinghybuoys Thanks John.. I hope the PDF size is not too big an issue.
Michael
@@SailingGently Not at all, it might trip one or two up ! But it’s quite straight forward to get around. The key is to upload the PDF Doc first and skip passed the ‘warning’ prompt rather than getting a quote first then subsequently uploading, but making sure once you’ve selected your binding format / size, you check the preview prior to committing.
@@oldscooldinghybuoys That's interesting John, thank you. I'm never sure what % of the books are converted so it's great to get this feedback
Fantastic ! I bought the last edition but yet to do the trip - just getting a survey on a boat done so should be on the water very soon and will be ordering this latest edition for sure ! Not a sail boat, an Elling but can’t wait to use the info in the books with my dog and head through the canals ! We need an update on your Caribbean adventure too !
Grant hi,
good luck with the survey and for the 'splash'. Sounds like a nice boat. Email me at michael@michaelbriant.com and I'll send you a link to the new book
Thank you Michael. Just bought it! Must admit, i prefer an actual book, so have ordered through Dox. Best wishes
Thanks James - would love some feedback on your Dox experience - if you have the time
Damn. I just bought the old edition.
Ken email me michael@michaelbriant.com and I'll send you a link to the newk one
👍👍
Thank you Imina
Hi Michael....I have wanted to do the french canals, sadly I am constantly warned that my 2m keeled yacht will not make it - is this true from your experience?
5.8 metres is around the limit on the best possible route. If you sent the mast and boom by lorry the weight loss might well make it OK... You will run aground even then but it is all soft mud!
@@SailingGently I assume that should read 1.8 metres!
Erm....you do mean 1.8m keel max??
Luckily for me, I've done the interior of France to Death via Motorbike Touring for years, and the Book Michael has done that I really like, is the relaxed route down the West Coast of France, North Coast of Spain, then West Coast of Portugal. Yes it takes a bit longer, but Weather windows, and Stopovers make it a truly memorable journey. tbh, I'm not that bothered by the prospect of Orca Attacks, and if they're around, people are partnering up to go through possibly dodgy areas. Orcas like playing their version of Waterpolo, so I'll just carry some nice bright beach balls to hopefully encourage them to play. May work, may not work, time will tell. They always used to be really friendly, it's strange that they've become upset for some reason. 🤔
@@richs6675 Yes... sorry finger problem... thinking feet and metres at the same time! 1.8 is correct
