Wouldn't I want to show off for my crush?
If it gets sent to my crush. I see this as an absolute win! Maybe then she won't think I'm creepy and weird... Right?

@@rush3676 Don’t worry, most of it is jokes, I don’t think he is a fan of point sparring, neither am I, and I’ve done Taekwondo for several years. And there is also a mcdojo situation in many martial arts, but Taekwondo has it real bad. Anyway. Most of it is comedy

11. If the teacher is demonstrating a technique for learning purposes, don't be that guy and try to resist it unless they specifically ask you to. There's a time and place for that, but that isn't it.

Nice joke, very original. At this point, it's like picking on a smaller person, such a bandwagon... Here's 2 facts: 1. If that is how you understand chi, you are wrong, 2. You can't use your body without using chi. Any attack is a chi based attack. Chi is just another word for energy, like kinetic energy. For fuck's sake.

Honestly, a lot of martial artists bother me because they stress technique over fitness or strategies, and I don't feel like I learn anything from them. The moment you said "don't take anything as an absolute" you gained my trust. Definitely subscribing
I'm in no way a martial artist, nor a fighter, but learning a lot on the field of functional fitness (12+ years in the making) - when I hear "you should kick in this angle" makes me giggle, as there are such a great variety of hip joint / femur length / tendon attachment parameters at different individuals, that literally a simple squat works super different between 2 persons, and this also stands for any explosive movements such as jumps, kicks, etc. So I totally relate with the facepalm moment when you talked about these absolutes.
So basically you don't know shit and you're giving an opinion anyways
@@basedbane787 Maybe you misunderstood me. I am not a martial artist, but "I know shit" (whatever that means in your vocabulary) about human anatomy because of studying it for more than 12 years now. And yes, I am giving an opinion based on my experience of improving my own mobility as well as my experience of successfully helping other people improve their hip and overall mobility. Take care and have a nice day, John.

"Hands in your pockets" If you have a pocket knife (or pepper spray, ...) , having your hand (one hand) in the pocket may be useful.
It also can seem threatening to someone and stop them from attacking.
Be darkseid ... keep you hands in back and fight.
Oooh
Why 2 use ✋ when his eyes could kill most living beings
Those social media puns are legit might use them 😂
Hahaha heck yes
@@SenseiSeth if you use MySpace more than you block getting punched in the face, ya probably can't fight.
Absolutely true. Always continue asking questions, never stop adapting your techniques as time moves on but pay respects to the original styles.
Recording your training is soooo good! We actually have security cams that record every class and we encourage all students to watch the videos after class so they can see what the instructors see.
"If you use TikTok more than you get tip-tapped, you probably can't fight." 😅
In my experience asking questions is fine but NEVER ask "what if" questions. There is always a what if and those are the really annoying ones. At least this is a rule in my gym.
Oh big one
I personally learn the most from "what if" questions. Nothing is cut and dry I like to cover all areas of a technique and ask on certain application of technique.
I'm a wrestling coach and love when kids ask what if. It means they're thinking about how to properly use the technique. It helps me guide students in the right direction.
These questions are best asked at the end of the training or during one on one or small group drills.
@@THIS---GUY I get what you mean and you should definitely do whatever works best for you. My main point is that they want to know all the “what ifs” without even knowing the basic technique. For example when the coach is covering a BJJ technique and this one dude keeps asking “but what if I just punch him” or something like that. Sometimes they ask all these what ifs to kind of debunk a technique without even trying. Also like Seth mentioned, there are no absolutes. Do whatever works best for you.
@@remongeurts9335 I can see how those questions are distracting from the lesson. I always tell my students to save those questions for later in the practice or after but sometimes a good question comes up and we'll stop class to cover something specific and get back to work. That's why I personally ask after the seminar or during rolling after technique.
I always say there's no stupid questions (there are actually very stupid questions lol) but I always try and cultivate a student's interest and mindset.
That's true not just for training.
I was expecting nº 10 to be something like "Don't give up". But I'm not even mad

Thanks Pretzel Man!
Why are all your videos so fun Seth? Even you just talking infront of a camera. I love the funny edits and memes too haha.
Haha thanks bud!
I wanted a prequel meme and you delivered immediately. Bravo sir 👏
"Don't hit harder than you want to get hit", I feel like this doesn't actually communicate what you followed it up with. What you said is more like, "Don't hit harder than your opponent wants to be hit", which I think is better ettiquette personally. Just because you want to hit hard, doesn't necessarily mean I want to get hit hard having maybe only recently recovered from a concussion. IMO this is the biggest problem with modern martial arts gyms. People are so unaware of how bad it is for you to get klobbered on a daily basis. Love your videos! Peace and love.
Was watching the crane kick video then seen this and decided to watch
Haha make sure you go finish that one later!
i like it! recording yourself er...myself train was the best thing ever. It definitely was a game changer that helped me improve tremendously.

Hey Seth, I just sparred in Muay Thai for the first time last night. I got punched in the face so many times. It was awesome and I learned a lot. The second guy I sparred with worked me over really well and talked with me afterwards. He's a local pro and immediately sussed out my background and spoke to me in a way that made sense based on my own experience. Just another update. I hope you don't hate that I do this.

Completely with you on the asking questions thing. I've know people open their mouth just so the wind can flap their tongue, or find fault and debate it. It hard to know when to just say 'Ok just trust me'

Ad.08 - I had a couple of situations in Krav Maga training, when we trained light sparring that was called "forehead, shouders, thighs " - you get a point when you tap other's person forehead et, you get the point.... I was rear-open-hand slapped twice by a trainer and a collegue I was sparring with, and actually I didn't know what to do then, I laughed it off when it was the trainer, that did it, but collegue pissed me off. I felt like it was breaking rules. What would You do? :D It's kinda question about sparring etiquette. And yes - I know it wasn't sparring per se, but still :) It was weird :) Is it normal to beat beginners, when you're a couple of lvls above them?
Teep him, then fake a teep and question mark kick em in the head.
Or just tell them don’t do it again
''There are no absolutes.'' Hate to break it to you, but that's an absolute.
Priceless at the end!!!! Please Sensei Seth do a video with WTF and ITF . That way people will know the difference. ITF is very good. WTF could be good but it has been seriously watered down.
Yo, I'm a part of a tkd school and I can honestly say, that joke almost never gets old 😆 keep up the good content homie
Seth: there are no absolutes
Also seth: record urself so you know objectively what u need to work on😂😂
Im jus being pedantic dude i agree with both points love ya
How are those contradictory?
@@Cynry because objective is means non subjective, true regardless of ones opinions, absolute is the same, based on facts only, not influenced by interpretation. So if there are no absolutes then you should never need to improve on anything because it is not objectively bad. I get what he meant jus that there is not one way to do a technique was jus a wind up
@@sparkyy2890 I disagree with your definition. Absolute is like, either 1 or 0. An objective measurement might give you 0.567.
@@Cynry I get what u mean, absolute as either true or false, objective as in void of subjective characteristics? I took absolute in the realm as it is either good or bad, so if nothing is good or bad then how can you improve on anything
@@sparkyy2890 Yes, that's what I meant. Nothing is absolutely good or bad, but you can still get better, if you look at yourself through the objective eyes of the camera, instead of through your own bias where you believe you are the reincarnation of Bruce Lee. I think that was Seth's point, in context.
Great video. People should know this before start practise in a dojo or gym.

As I kid I was walking through berlin with my hands in my pockets. I tripped, and busted my mouth on pavers. Two front teeth went bouncing, never seen that much blood in my life. At least leaving my own body. Definitely not in the habit anymore. Though I do understand that it's also a fidget thing or 'not being sure what to do with ones hands' thing when out of their comfort zone... it does come across as disrespectful, for sure, during class.
