I had a Volvo 240 with this engine. It is indestructible.
It was created by adding 2 cylinders to the 1.6D.

Oh, it sounds exactly like the wonderful early '80s 240 Diesel Volvo! Effectively, as other viewers wrote, they used the same 6-cylinder engines. 😊 Cheers, Seaside Garage! Thank you always for publishing such good vids!!👐

The dog leg box and crawler gear were standard on the LT. Missing mine so much, I could listen to that engine sound all day. I'm sure volvo used that engine too.

This brought back some memories for me. Back in the day when life was so much simpler I had a driving job to fill in a spell of redundancy. I drove a LT45 delivery van, very similar possibly longer wheel base but I’m sure it was the same engine. Once it had a diesel leak from an injector pipe which sprayed diesel over the hot engine, that made my eyes water until it was repaired. I would love one now to convert into a cool camper.

To have a vehicle that you can get into and start for four decades, and know the next time you get in it, it'll start again...
    Epic...

Nice van! My daily driver is a 1997 ex-fire brigade MB Sprinter. 🚒
It doesn't have difflocks, but features "traction control" that uses the ABS-system to brake a spinning rear wheel, so that the other wheel doesn't loose power.

That's a nice one. My parents rented one in 1982 when they moved house (not the military version). I also was a passenger once in the MAN with the same cab, that was a real truck 😀

Military vehicles derived from standard consumer ones can be quite interesting, though, there are some pretty silly ones, like the 2CV pickup, yep, they militarised the ol' duck, not entirely sure what job they did, but, it's funny to see them in pictures all dressed up in green or camo paint... :P

I've had two of those old LT35s back in the day, converted both to self-build campers. They're like TARDISes; fit in a normal supermarket parking space but so much room inside... and you can stand up in the back without banging your head.
The major downside is that completely gutless Volvo engine [if you have the non-turbo version]. I used to cringe with embarrassment slowly inching up hills, foot to the floor, in first [crawler gear] and being passed by everything else on the road.
I'd still have one again in a heartbeat, if I could find a turbo-engined one and I'd kill for a 4x4 version. But those are as rare as rocking-horse poo.

Very cool. The last time I saw an LT here in the UK I took a photo because it was such a rare thing and that was quite a few years ago. I love old vans.

You might have been going a bit quicker than you thought. The bigger wheels would make the speedo under read.
