I bet the majority of the viewers don't ride, lol. But this is one way to record audio. I like that you are putting it right on the gopro, rather than an external audio recorder. I also like the fact that you are using a gopro and have 2 distinct audio tracks, you can turn up the mic over speaker track. I've tried it all.
Yeah, I've never been a fan of using an external audio recorder. Too much extra work for, in my opinion, sound that is still comparable to lav mics. Lining up audio would an extra step too. Also, would add another button to press record that I know I'd fuck up and forget doing a lot of the time lmao. But yeah, having that flexibilty to control how loud you want that intercom mic to pick up the sound is great!
@@STANTHEMOTOMAN Your audio is surprisingly good. I've mostly been recording with the sena audio pack and the DJI osmo action. I'm going to go back to a gopro for the 2 channel audio and run a wired setup.

I like a 3/4 helmet. I installed a football face guard on mine to mount the gopro. It is the best location because it records what you see in your mirrors and those behind you don’t know you are wearing a camera. Makes for great footage.
At 3:47 , when your camera cannot focus on your task at hand….literally, does it suffer from A.D.D.?😂 Ok, I got an HJC I-90 size 4x helmet. So if I get the chin mount, does it also have to be specific to the camera brand and model? Or are mounts specific to helmet but universal across cameras, or camera brands? Helmet is set up wits cardo pack talk edge.
So here's a funny story for you - after seeing your setup, I went about acquiring all the bits that I needed, I actually went the Ulanzi cage route b/c I liked the shelf to contain the GoPro mic adaptor. I sourced some inexpensive mics for the audio capture and started routing wires in my Schuberth C4 helmet, YES, Schuberth C4 - Hello Houston, we have a problem :-) The C4 is a modular helmet and you have to lift the chin guard to get your head inside, you can probably guess what's coming next; cable routing suddenly got complicated :-) Persiviarence eventually paid off and now I just have a small loop that sits to the side of my face that I need to 'fiddle' with.
Ah yes that's true I guess I should have mentioned that in this video! I'm dumb for forgetting such an important detail especially since I had modular helmets here. Glad you figured it out! It's definitely more challenging because you have moving parts involved. But yeah, I would have probably said something similar to your solution. It's not perfect... but it works.

Great info 👍 For the time being I'll be a solo rider. What's the best microphone? I'm thinking GoPro Hero Black 7. In your opinion what is the best com Swna or Cardo?
0:43 "chin mount produces the best angle" It depends on what you mean by "best". A chest mount [1] gives the most immersive view, letting the viewer see the rider's arms, hands, and all of the important stuff on the bike, and of course a good view of the road. It does a much better job of putting you "in the ride". You can see the steering inputs clearly in the periphery and it's more stable. Take a look at superbikeracer's videos. He uses a chin mount but usually has his head down low where the camera would be for a chest mount during normal riding. That being said, I usually use helmet mount because it's directional and I want to be able to look at scenery and other points of interest, but even with gopro's widest angle setting, it isn't as good as chest mount, because the you can't see the rider's arms (on a sportbike), and the dash and hands are too near the edge, often going in and out of frame if I angle the camera to be level and get a good view of the road. I've tried several positions on the helmet and the lower it is, the better (again, if you want to give the audience the most immersive view). I agree that chin mount looks the best from the outside. Thanks for the tips about the mic! [1] See: STUNTMAN Chest Mount

I jerry rigged my gopro audio adapter so that it would sit flush in BEHIND the gopro and the gopro would hold it in place (along with some tethering) when you mount it all up before a ride. That worked really well with my old Icon helmet, but with my brand new Shoei RF1400 I imagine that no longer is an option for me. Need access to the visor button still and all. I LOVE your idea of sticking it the side of the mount so I will give that a try once I get everything transferred over to my new helmet :)

@@STANTHEMOTOMAN I sent an email to them, thanks! Hopefully they'll have a solution.
So like, I did this and when I play back my GoPro footage I only get audio from one ear. I’m assuming it’s because the mic I put next to the helmet Bluetooth speaker isn’t getting outside audio like the one closer to my mouth.
Just adjust the audio channel on your editing program and you'll get both channels with audio. It's what I have to do. I forgot to mention it here!
Can you do a GOpro setting???
I'll consider it! I wouldn't say I have a firm grasp of it yet though haha
Amazing idea! Question, the mic adapter works with my hero10 when one mic is plugged in but not with a Y splitter trying to record the two mics at the same time. Any ideas?
I'm going to guess it has something to do with the TRSS to TRS adapter... just saw that in your description but didn't see it in the video around 7:30 so I just went GoPro --> mic adapter --> y splitter
Man I need to get a job, getting my first bike around June but the amount I’m about to spend on accessories alone is insane my amazon total is £793.99 on top of that the bike I’m getting is like 1.2k soo ima have to mad save if I’m gonna be making less than £100 a week
Stanthemotoman. Dude. I want to ask a question from you. Do you let your very best friends wear your Dainese leather suit if they asked to borrow it for a ride? Or do you decline giving them your leather suit.
I've never come across that situation yet but I'd probably let them borrow it depends what they're doing
