    I picked up a few things this past Black Friday. This is my new Yihua 8786D Hot Air / Soldering station!

    Seems like a decent enough "knockoff" product for someone like me who do occasional repairs on game consoles and cords. I was worried that tips would be hard to come by on it but this video showed that it seems pretty versatile. Going for it.

      Yup, they're the generic Hakko style tips!

    Nice overview. Been wanting one of these to do some SMD capacitor replacement on my old Macintosh machines. I’m experienced with thru hole soldering but never tried hot air rework. Looks easy enough, and this unit doesn’t break the bank. Good stuff.

    My 898D+ looks the similar.. Performance close to a 861DW... The trick is letting the hot air wand heat up a minute before attempting reflow..

    You can re-calibrate the thermometer if you hold the up and down button of each tool.

    Hello! This was a really good review and covered everything I was looking for. I bought one of these today.
    How is it holding up 2 years later?

    I plan on getting this before Christmas to begin soldering as it seems no one in my area really offers it for game console repair (a lot of broken HDMI ports around lol) and simple game battery replacements for GBC, GBA, NES, SNES & N64 games. Are you still using this 2 years later? I see a lot of good reviews on it an it doesnt seem to bad as long as you take care of it an get new tips

      I still use it. Since I do very little hot air rework, I tend to use more my Hakko because I prefer the more flexible cable. However, this unit is still running good.

    Hi, I bought one of these about 6 months ago to be able to reflow SMD components. Thanks for the video, it’s a good honest review and it looks like I made a decent choice. I’ve been soldering through hole for 30+ years but am new to SMD. What would you recommend as a basic setting for temperature and fan speed? New subscriber, looking forward to watching some of your other videos.

      Thanks for your comment. It's difficult to say since it depends on the soldering paste used. I tend to do 30-40 celsius over what the paste makers recommend due to losses in free air, etc. But I always pre-heat the general area by blowing hot air from a distance and also, if you can, cover parts you don't want to reflow using nylon tape (Kapton as example).

      Hi there. It still works :). I don't particularly like the cable used for the solder iron (it is not silicone). So it is not as flexible. However, for the price, the hotair handle is ergonomic. And the iron works fine.
      If you do a lot of work, maybe a better iron handle would be nice. The Hakko has better rubber on the part you hold in your hand.

    Is it possible to have both the iron and hot air turned on at the same time?

    I just got mine today. What is the wire you plug in the back? It has an aligator clip. When you test a board like a chip for ground, is this what you use? Where would you clip it on the board? Thanks

    • @mezmerizer0266
      @mezmerizer0266 Год назад

      That's a grounding clip in the case OD electrostatic discharge. If you are soldering or working around ESD sensitive items you want to have common ground.
      You can skip it on to your clothes, alternatively, you can get an ESD grounding unit and mat. The wire on the back of the soldering unit can be taken out, as it's just a banana clip.

    Hello, is the airflow on the heater gun OK? The digital numbers are not flickering on this unit as on the once that I saw before (same) station. How come?

    • @Made2hack
      @Made2hack  2 года назад

      Hi there, the airflow is sufficient and comparable to my old unit. It works fine for hobby work. As for the flickering, maybe different camera frame rates can make the LED display look as if it is flickering? I don't know.

    A good product never needs publicity ...

      That’s really bad logic, that’s like saying “just trust the product, without any opinions from anybody with experience in said product, just buy this expensive thing and trust us without any unbiased opinions or analysis” lol
