    ‘I need to know everything! How else can I judge whether or not I need to know it?’
    Another iconic line that sums up Sir Humphrey perfectly.

    I adore Bernard's irregular verbs!

  • @embreis2257
    @embreis2257 10 месяцев назад +175

    5:12 Humpy: 'how sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless cabinet colleague.'
    PM: 'it's envy, you know. Dudley is consumed with envy.'
    Bernard: 'it's one of the seven dudley sins.'
    Bernard did it again. he just killed me with his remarks from the sidelines. 😂

    When asked why he didn't sack JEdgar Hoover, LBJ said he'd rather have the man inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in.

    The chief whip in YPM is much weaker than chief whip in YM. Yes Minister Chief whip is much more ferocious and scary and actually understand politics much more

    • @gchecosse
      @gchecosse 10 месяцев назад +41

      Understand politics maybe, but he's more ferocious when talking to a minister, here he's talking to the PM.

    • @quintuscrinis8032
      @quintuscrinis8032 9 месяцев назад +10

      @gchecosse that's certainly one explanation. It could just be that the whip reflects the PM they serve given how weak Hacker can ... given how efficient Hacker is at understanding the rationale of the Civil Service.

    I stopped for lunch recently at Berwick-upon-Tweed and it seems a very pleasant place. Perhaps not the best for an ambitious private secretary, but Bernard could do a lot worse.

      No. Back then, top politicians may have schemed and played organisational snakes and ladders, but they weren't vindictive and malicious against the whole country and the rest of the world. This sitcom was followed by The New Statesman, which portrayed the sleazy backbench fringe. From Johnson was Alan B'Stard for real and moved from backbenches to Number 10 to appoint his cronies and eradicate Hacker, Major, even Thatcher. The Thick of It reflected aspects of Blair-Brown and shenanigans within the Labour party but still not rampant devil-take-the-hindmost and kick those who hesitate in the shins

    Worse still in real life the of the last deputy whips was only in the because he lied about his extra activities....he could have been in a plot....this is just so true....it's too funny. 😂
    Around this time, in real world, there were plots against Thatcher, they won in the end, like with Boris. 😁
    Love Sir Humphrey's Shakespeare misquote. 😁
