  • This part two of my turntable area build. Includes engine sheds concrete base , wiring up of sheds and turntable and completing the track laying.

      Yeah didn't have much choice with the space I had to work with.
      Not so keen on the hornby shed very flimsy and looks it should have glued all the attachments on, all you have to do is touch it and something falls off.

    Hello, Pete and Su! Great update... the buildings look great with the lights. I have used the same light strips in a couple places, but I have not toned them down. There are many tricks for dulling them from tape, to paint, to resistors, or even little bits of white plastic a few mm below to diffuse the light. Great to see it all! Cheers and all the best.

      Yeah gone the lazy way with putting paint on the leds.

      Yeah with you there, got lights in all my buildings but maybe to many on one bus line, going to introduce another 12v source.
      Add the little people as well brings the layout to life.

    Pete, your apron is lovely 😂 that’s is looking fabulous the lighting in your sheds are super. Very clever idea with the cardboard you fitted it brilliantly. The whole area is looking great. My regards to Su

      Thought I'd try something different with the cardboard, I know you can but ready made bases but like to scratch build them
      Lights are ok at the moment but got to much on one bus wire. Going to do another bus if I do more Lights.

      Yeah I know what you mean Pete. Yeah I think that virtually all of us change things at some point or another. I have been contemplating another change to my layout 😯😯 But more on that in the future.... Mark.

      Yeah makes all the difference with lights and little people, yet to be added.
      Wasn't sure about the Hornby turntable, so many bad reviews on them. Didn't want to cut a hole in the baseboards so didn't have much choice. Happy with though.

      Yeah used those lights in all my buildings, wish I got the ones where you can cut individual leds though, not just in sections of 3.

      I liked doing the town bit, I used wet and dry for the road ways.
      First time I used card for a base, not as good that the experts do.
      Wind not to bad here in Peterborough, hope you didn't suffer any damage.

    Great job Pete on the engine shed and light also good to have more loco storage. I have found set track to be more stable than flexy. It's possible the piece you had got twisted somehow. The brightness of lighting is a very personal thing and always go with what you want, that way you are happy. Thats all that matters.

      Yeah storage was important as I haven't got any fiddle yards just sidings.
      When I talk to Deano he swears by set track, it certainly cured my problem. 😁
      Don't like the buildings to bright, camera makes them brighter anyway.
      Agreed 100% with you it's what give you pleasure in this hobby. My modeling is nowhere near your talent, but I get a lot of pleasure doing my best.

    To reduce the light output, you could fit a resistor to the feed to the lights.

    To dim the lights either use a smaller voltage supply or add in some resistors. Experiment with the values of the resistors or voltage until you're happy with the brightness.

      Yes I have a dropper just taken it down to 9v, with the paint lights look pretty good. Camera is light sensitive so will appear brighter than it really is.

    another tip i use 0.45 hand rail wire to the leds in the building as there much easyer to hide than thick wire

    Hey Pete and Su, nice work on the sheds. What do you wire the LED lights to is it the main bus that powers the track of is it on another bus? Good to see I am not the only one making changes to our layouts. Take care

      The power is from a bus line that comes from a variable voltage adapter I bought from Amazon. Thing is I have a lot of lightning on that bus, so will be doing another one, it's all controlled via a switch on the control board.
      Yeah that's the problem with this hobby Tony, we can never make our minds up ay. 😏

    I used plasticard for one of my smaller sheds and Das clay for another. Just keep an eye on the card could sag with cold damp temperatures over time.

      Been using modelling putty for a few things, nice and easy to use. And not messy like filler.

    use low voltage to dim them 3 volts dim 9 volts bright the sigle lefs are better as you can space them out more so not so bright all in one place

      I have two droppers, one for signals and street lights set at 3v. But the strips don't like 9v.
      Yes the 3 section ones are very limiting.
