I am a trans guy and I am a musical theatre actor so singing is such a huge part of my life and career, I was always worried that going on T would affect my life so much that I would never be able to sing again. With your help, I've realized that skill doesn't go away when your voice changes and that us trans singers can adapt and overcome. You are very talented and your singing voice has so much potential, I can't wait to see your voice improve even more in the future!

Thank you so much for posting this. My trans son (15) loves to sing and will be going on T in the next 6 months. He is worried about losing his singing voice but is willing to risk that in order to be fully himself. I can't wait to show him this!

You have so beautiful, so amazing voice, Victor! It's really pleasant to listen to. It is not easy to sing acapella - and you can do it so well! Your voice is becoming better and better from month to month, but I'm sure you still haven't reached your potential) Just keep singing and don't listen those stupid people who says you shouldn't do it. And please don't stop trying vocal auditions, cuz someday they'll notice how great you are!

I'm so grateful for this video. While I'm scared to come out to my family aboit being trans, loosing my ability to sing- to make the notes like I can now just with a more masculine voice without being horribly off key- was one of the scariest parts I'd thought I'd lose from my "normal life". So basically thank you for showing your transition from feminine to masculine voice

I'm gonna be honest; yes, your singing does sound better pre T, but here's the thing - you're not a bad singer! Of course it can't sound as good, you've had _years_ to practice and get familiar with your voice pre T. And no one should expect you to sound the same after starting T, because you can't. You need to get used to your new voice while also trying to unlearn some of the things you could with your old voice. You're literally going through years of puberty in months - it's gonna take time. But it's gonna be so much better, because now you glow with suave and confidence! And I can't wait to follow your journey and see you rock our socks off in a couple of years! 👏👏

the little wave of excitement i can see when you start hitting lower notes gives me life dude. i'm two weeks on T (weekly shots) and my voice is slowly starting to change, more in my singing than speaking so far.
also on the note of people calling you tone-deaf; WHAT??? I'm classically trained (at least for choral and solo singing) and I made note in my head that you have WONDERFUL tone, especially for someone grasping the way his voice is STILL CHANGING!

I was watching one of your old videos and your voice has literally changed so much! Like wow!
Coming from someone with 8 years of active singing experience 6 of which with vocal training, The improvement is beautiful, a lot of the notes in the beginning you said you couldn't sing sound more like you weren't giving them enough air to come out, I was a Soprano 1 (the highest vocal range for reference) and that was the same struggle I had sometimes even in school.
-Story time-
I was terrified of loosing my ability to sing when I was younger, but the amount of dysphoria I got was out weighing the want to sing, my choir teacher said I would be okay. Sadly I didn't listen to her. So at the end of my high school career when I had finally gotten the chance to start T I did, but I also stopped singing daily after that because I was terrified. I only sang parts of things I was comfortable with on occasion. It's been a year for me now and I sing more but I still just stop if I I'm not confident and it goes out of my talking range. Your video has shown me that its really not as horrible as I thought it was gonna be and I can actually do so much more then I was letting myself. I also still have the same vocal control as I did when I stopped? I could definitely tell the difference in my falsetto (high notes) though it is really shaky but that really just comes from not using it . Thanks to you I am gonna get back into singing and Try to restart my vocal training in that area.

By definition yes you did loose your singing voice, however your singing voice is not your ability to sing. Your singing voice is the section classification you have for the group of octaves* your voice can physically sing without causing pain. For example: My singing voice was Soprano 1* to about Alto 1* (usually people sing in one register but I fluctuated based on where my teacher needed me) now that I am on testosterone my voice is somewhere around Tenor 2* to Bass 1* I believe. I haven't been tested. I think your pre T was in the Alto area and you moved down one singing voice to Tenor.
*An Octave- a series of eight notes occupying the interval between (and including) two notes, one having twice or half the frequency of vibration of the other.
* The singing voices from highest to lowest
Soprano (the highest of the four standard singing voices)
==Soprano 1
==Soprano 2 *These sub segments are the voice parts you sing in
Alto ( Commonly the lowest female and highest male singing voice)
== Alto 1
== Alto 2
Tenor (a singing voice between bass and alto, the highest of the ordinary adult male range.)
== Tenor 1
== Tenor 2
==Baritone (this may be an incorrect classification this is where my teacher put it tor ease of explanation)
Bass
== Bass 1
==Bass 2
Note this is the basics it gets even more intense when you throw in mezzo's and countertenor, I personally think they make it much harder than it needs to be, Every teacher teaches it a little different and I'm probably gonna get a bunch of music students telling me I'm wrong but this is how my teacher taught me so its the best I got.
