When people tell me 'Thanks for your service' I tell them to keep their thanks, as we didn't really have a choice: Army, police or prison... as long as we swerved (served) the Apartheid State.
Hi Rudie. Please are you able to assist.I was in the army from 1973 - 1978. I did 5 boarder camps never received my "Propatrica Medal ". Please advise how I go about obtaining this medal. Thanking you, George.

But once again, no disrespect to other units, but in my personal opinion, the tiffie badge, the horse and lightening bolt was definitely one thee most beautiful badges.....RESPECT.....SALUTE
Hi Andre. Good to hear from somebody that was there the same time as me. I was in Charlie Squadron, second bungalow for basic. Then moved over to Alpha. Was posted to 7 Div mob centre at DeBrug outside Bloemfontein in Jul 1985 until uitklaar in June 1986.
Hi Pieter, I was Delta Troupe 5, that was the 3rd bungalow. We did our Recovery course and drivers in one month. Towards the end of October 84 we flew up to Grootfontain. The rest of the 84 intake arrived in the beginning of December.
Baie dankie aan ons wit bond NP manne soos FW.Pik Roelf ens die Anglo manne en politicians ...wit...dat julle di land en Al die ouens gedrop het..Vir jul eie gewin.
Ag please... and after it was done??? WHAT was DONE TO THEM??? And PRECISELY WHAT have the WHITE South Africans DONE about it??? NOTHING. Too spineless to do anything about it.
Not necessarily for nothing, think of it this way, if we did not fight them then and there, we might have had a Communist Government right now where you have no rights. But because of our soldiers fighting on the Border, you can now sit comfortably in your home, still call it your own and have a Government where the 'Communist' are more 'Capitalist' than we are. Note that I am not arguing your point of view on the politicians.
America and Great Pakistan (Britain) are also to blame, for all the pressure they put on us. I pesonally believe they were scared of the power house we would become.
I disagree. The enemy most certainly did not win. They win nothing against our SADF/SAAF. The enemy suffered and lost a lot more than the South Africans. They lost men and weapons, didn't conquer any land, their egos were completely bruised and they lost prestige on a world stage. S.A then was a powerful opponent even with sanctions tying its hands behind its back. The enemy in the case of the ANC never fought any war, hiding behind other armies. The enemy due to the global collapse of their terrorist sponsors (USSR collapse of 1989) was forced to seek a negotiated settlement. Our boys should be proud of their service, courage and bravery, without which our country would be worse off than what it is.
@@Honeybadger017 He's right it was for nothing, look at who is ruling today and like you said they never did anything to call it a victory, but we can't live in the past,i served from 74-86 and have regrets about the capitulation and curse the traitors that sold us out like that, any way compliments of the season to you and yours.salut.
Bloody old “staaldakke”. Thank heavens these were upgraded later. Not that I ever wore a “staaldak” once posted to the border. Bush hat only. We were in any case better trained and equipped than the “terse”.
Hmm very sentimental and pro-SANDF perspective to my mind looking back. Having 'been there full on" from Op Reindeer in 78 through to Op Askari in 83 we were able to cause huge damage only because we were better organised, equipped and supported .. and they were generally so piss poor. It makes a person miserable to think of what that country could have been. Should have been at this point. A powerful fighting force makes a nation confident in its ability to enforce favorable trade deals. Nuclear weapons to be at peace with the world. The current administration just dishes out its countries resources like candy and strives to keep its population as poorly educated as possible so that they can maintain the situation in which they can so easily pilfer the inhabitants for pocket money to purchase property and stash away offshore. Instructed to take each day as it comes and only complain about the middle class who owe themselves to the bank, instead of the multi-billion dollar racket which is their own elected government. A deadly concoction of fear of a repeat apartheid, however impossible that may be and an ego that banishes widespread prosperity, keeps the ANC inner circle nourished dozens of times more than they need to be. Thoughts of the simple act of grabbing the worm and pulling it out of ones anus shrouded by guilt and overwhelming pity. One day...
