I counter that statement about being relatable. They do a very good impersonation of a middle aged, lonely man through Benson. Rigby's character growth is my favorite part of the show. In the earlier seasons, he's lazy and irresponsible but as the show goes on and when he started dating Eileen, he matured. He finished high school not just because of Eileen but he did it for himself too. Sure, there are still hints of Rigby being Rigby but the audience saw his growth. Hell, he even has a better love story than Mordecai.

I discovered Regular Show in my early 20s, I want to say when I was 22 or 23. The world, as I saw it, was such a different time back then. I remember feeling like everything was going perfect in my life and having this show - at a time when G4 had gone off the air and I felt like I had grown out of Cartoon Network - was just the icing on the cake. My inner child was so content back then😌
I hate to be the gatekeeper of depression, but it really can be much much worse. Like cosmicly and existentially worse. I only say this so the next time you're feeling down just remind yourself that it could be so much worse so you can feel more grateful about the position you're in. It might put some pep in your step. I suffer from bipolar disorder, borderline personality, ptsd, generalized anxiety, and a few others and most of the time I'm okay. But every year or two I will get this chemical dump of dysphoria that will last up to 6 agonizing months. Sometimes it will only last 2 days. The feeling that it gives you makes you feel like you're trapped in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at night with nobody to help, and everyone you know and love has just died. And you're the last person on earth. And you can be around friends and having an apparent good day when this happens. The primal fear that gets put into your head is terrifying. Every thought and action feels terrifying to the bone. And you just want to run and scream. Oh God, I hate when that happens. But really, it can always be worse, even for me when those episodes happen. I could ACTUALLY be in the middle of the ocean ya know. That would suck for sure
Finally, somebody that doesn’t needlessly harp on how “bad” or “unnecessary” the romance in Regular Show was. It’d be pretty unrealistic for a show about two down on their luck 20-somethings to *not* deal with relationship woes at some point. You can make the argument that the whole premise of the show getting surreal and weird toward the end of each episode is what carried the show but honestly, that formula can only work on its own for so long. I, for one, appreciate the change of pace a lot more now as an adult than I ever did as a teenager. I relate to Mordo’s love life issues hard given how complicated things can get when you’re pursuing genuine love and companionship. I went through it in college but now that I’m done with it, I’ve come out of college with a lovely and beautiful girlfriend whom I adore with all my heart. This show truly is a gem. I wouldn’t say it’s underrated given how it alongside Adventure Time were partly responsible for reminding people that loving cartoons has no expiration date but I can definitely agree it’s a well-crafted and special show. Great video essay, man. You should make more. I’ll gladly tune in!
Thanks for your comment man I love the engagement. I agree now that I'm in my mid 20's I have a new appreciation for the show and where the characters are at in life. I think most of the complaints about the romance are from younger viewers who can not relate to it and therefore are kind of annoyed by it. I have been getting a lot of complaints about the title of my video. The reason I titled it as "underrated" is because I think it is in television as a whole. I think it's really popular within the Cartoon community but the point of my video is trying to get people who don't normally watch cartoons to give it a shot. Thanks I'm working on my next video now it's about Gravity Falls. It's taking a while because it's a large video. It should be uploaded sometime in December. Make sure to click the notification bell to be notified when I upload it. Thanks for your comment and I wish you & your girlfriend the best of luck!
This video slapped me hard. Now that I am in high school I actually care about the right person and seeing Mordecai fail, twice, makes me sad. I also relate to his anxiety talking to girls now that I actually treat them as humans (remember the good old days of elementary school where the girls and boys hated each other)
@@RandomPerson-ob1hk Thank you for your kind words & supporting the channel make sure to click the notification bell to be notified when my next video drops
The purpose of the cartoon is to be entertaining not to be therapy for the writers to self insert their failed relationships. You can talk about how realistic the relationships are all you want but the entire epilogue is a massive slap in the face.
To be fair, "pulling a mordecai" isn't simping, it's Mordecai completely locking up and mumbling when anyone of the female sex tries to talk to him lmao
I was born in 1996. I grew up with the classics of cartoon Network. I'm not going to name all of them, but around the Time regular show came out, i was around the time I felt like I was already too old for the terrible shows that have been playing the couple years before it came out. regular show was the greatest thing to ever happen to cartoon Network in years
I want to go back to the early 2010s for a little bit just so that way I can watch regular show.I am tired of the new crap we get(like Mindy Kaling’s Velma). You see everything had effort and appeal to all ages no need to force Representation on us.Just be creative and have fun
This shows character development was incredible. Rigby made alot of mistakes but the fact that he is a completely different character in the last season than he is in the first is proof of his incredible character.
Honestly, I think that's the saddest part of the whole show. Skips has been, and will always be watching time pass by while he remains pretty much the same. Watching everybody else get older. I feel for that.
i personally always loved the moment when Mordecai tells Rigby he doesn’t want to talk about dropping Margret off at the Air-port, and instead of leaving or talking anyways he just sits down and hands Mordecai a “soda”
In a "fanfic" (four novel-length books + side-stories) Rei Ayanami (yes, that Rei), after days and days and weeks in-hospital as she was rather prone to injury on the job, thanked DJ. Of all her visitors, he was the only that sat and just… kept her company. Didn't try to force discussion. Didn't make it awkward. Didn't make her injuries about them. Sometimes, just sitting and being there for someone is what is needed in the moment.
@@sebaloko99bt Although Bojack Horseman put a more dramatical perspective in life. Maybe Regular Show had some dramatic situations as well, but it had a more optimistic point of view.
I find it so crazy that a show with so many characters can find room to make everyone great. HFG is one of my personal favorites, sure he’s a sidekick but episodes like the Postcard are fantastic, the ghost is loyal and always friendly, and it pays off
This show is so damn good. It’s a show where EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER. has growth & good writing. And even the most meaningless things has meaning. Like the “my mom” jokes Muscle man tells. Or the reason why skips… skips

It’s amazing really how they were able to fit such long, lasting fun adventures into short 11 minute episodes only in the span of eight seasons to where they seemed to take time to grow each and every character astonishes me. It’s truly a masterpiece in disguise JG Quintel is a genius.

I remember watching the short trailer for Regular Show way back in 2010 and thinking "this is cringe I aint watching this". Then shortly after I convinced myself to at least watch one episode... 12 years later and IMO this is the best thing cartoon network has ever released.
I was the opposite. I kept seeing bumpers for the show and really wanted to see it but was too dumb to find out when it aired, but when I finally did, I was hooked. I'm glad I watched this masterpiece of a show unfold
I'll say I'd be more upset/mad if Rigby and Eileen didn't end up together - I loved their relationship so much throughout the show, and it makes perfect sense that mordecai would end up with someone completely different cause like you said not everyone ends up with their first love, and you couldn't have both mordecai and Rigby end up that way, one of them had to be with someone random, and I'm glad they choose for Rigby and Eileen to stay together 🥰
This was incredibly put together. As I loved the holy trinity/renessaince Era of cartoon network (Regular Show, The Amazing World Of Gumball, and Adventure Time), as it culturally shaped a whole generation and allowed us to express our emotions and personality through quirky but relatable plotlines and story, allowing us to feel all the real emotions people experience throughout their adult lives. Regular Show was a masterpiece and is my second favorite show of all time, such a diverse and amazing cast/characters and all the characters always felt natural and like friends, although they all clashed from time to time, whenever they needed eachother they always had eachothers backs, which is such a good message to send, that yes you love your friends and family, but you will clash, you will fight, but in the end they'll always be there for you when in need. Also get this man more subs, this was incredibly put together, like why does he only have 130 subs?
@@RandomPerson-ob1hk I'm a month late on this response so you may not see it LMAO. But to answer your question, my first favorite is batman the animated series.

Is ironic that the show is literally called Regular Show, because there’s nothings regular about it, yet the symbolism and the metaphors that appear on it are just mystifications of regular stuff that happens to everyone. A true masterpiece.
11:05 I can’t remember if he knew Skips’s past at this point in the show, but if he does I think when Skips’s did this he was comforted because of how Skips’s and his girlfriend ended up and how Skips’s could still find happiness after that.

I got Hulu when I was 20 and watched this show from start to finish. What a great show. Beautiful story. Back in elementary I would watch random episodes of regular show, which definitely worked. But now, knowing the full plot and meanings are so beautiful 😭
Whenever I see Regular Show or Adventure Time on it's really hard to watch. It's really challenging for me not to go back in time and remember what was going on in my life and remember what it was like to get home from school and watch every new episode. Times where I had no responsibilities 😂 The nostalgia hits harder than even my favorite cartoon ever, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
i feel what i really like about regular show and adventure time was that they were appealing in a wholesome kid like way but also light heartedly intense. Both shows hit hard as a kid and now as an adult. They are both something that I can put on when I don’t wanna think but do at the same time a feeling that’s really hard to explain. Like the point made in the video, the relatable aspect of regular show makes it feel better to watch than say a really well acted, well written, well made show that has obviously dark themes, rather than the subtle themes of these kids cartoons.
Regular Show is definitely NOT underrated, not even underappreciated. Everyone and their mama loves this show, one of the best cartoons of the 2010s. And it got the attention it deserved.
This show tackled real life emotions and development in the form of a whacky cartoon about a blue jay and a raccoon…quite amazing actually. Always grateful for this show
As a person that struggles with self worth I heavily relate to rigby as I feel the same emotions as him. I have an older brother who’s extremely smart and I feel like I need to keep up with him me being the dumb one. I often feel left out as my brother does more important things like soccer at a high level whilst I’m trying to fit in my family of smart people. my parents feel like I’m just lazy and don’t try at all but they know my mental state is declining ever since the pandemic (I’m an extrovert). I can always catch them cretic me on everything. I do it doesn’t help having adhd because I fidget a lot making ask why I am the way I am or “what the hell are you doing”. at least my friends make me feel better since they check in on me usually or try to include me on everything they do. For the random person out there who took time to read this thank you and have a good day
Hey man ill say now as the group dumbass with the guys i know, its not bad being dumb even if you arent, and your family just sounds like assholes not family, hell even my lover knows I'm stupid as fuck but he likes it that way i guess you can say, but your probably not dumb or even if you are have fun with it, its better than being smart
I remember watching the Christmas episode and feeling really happy for Mordecai and Margaret resolving their feelings during the little montage… And then it faded back in to them kissing and my smile was gone instantly. Like, maaan… come on. I was rooting for Mordecai until that happened.
So much to talk about regarding all of this, but one thing that stuck out the most for me is the Mordecai recovery montage. It is so wholesome and heartwarming to see all of his acquaintances, even Benson, do their part in their own way to help him get back on track. Rigby plays games with him and hangs around him, Skips and Pops get him into a fitness routine, Hi-5 and Muscle Man fool around and joke at Thomas' behalf, who takes it in stride like a champ, Benson praises him for good work, even if it's something simple and small. It even shows Muscle Man complementing him on his trim, getting back into a neater, healthier state. He wasn't even doing anything, just happened to be there eating and gave approval to his look without a second passing. Something SO seemingly small and insignificant can be a part of a whole procedure of change. The little things do matter. If anyone who is reading this has a friend who struggles with depression, but feels like they can't do anything about it, you can. Even something small could have a big impact on them, and they may need it more than you know. If anyone who is reading this is struggling with depression, we can get through this. I'm proud of us for making it this far. You're stronger than you know.
I think what made Mordecais relationship with CJs so much better than his relationship with Margaret was how CJ and Mordecai not only started off as friends, but actually had similar interests as well as similar personalities. Also, imo Margarets character in the show kinda felt more plain than anything, like as if she was just there purely to be his love interest. She didn’t have much going on with her besides that. But CJ was there to be his best friend, as well as to be his love interest. Usually what makes a relationship good, as well as healthy and last long, is to have it built on friendship. That’s something my mom taught me when I was younger.
You know whats actually underrated about the show? All of the pop culture references, especially 80's references such as Indiana Jones and Back to the Future, even in the most subtle ways. Or all of the references to 80s and 90s tech such as VHS, LaserDisc, Sega Master Systems, etc. I also loved the parody stuff that they did such as the whole episode being lost in an IKEA or at a Home Depot.
This show was a huge part of my life growing up, and I literally can't watch the last episode without "sweating from my eyes" as muscleman put it. Truly a timeless masterpiece
This was a really good video. I remember watching regular show when I was 7 and the show ended when I was 14. Now I'm 18 and looking at this video made me tear up because of the nostalgia and how I can now relate to the characters in the show. Especially with mordecai
Regular Show will always be one of the greats. A true king of masterpiece cartoons. Oh the good old days of Cartoon Network. Rip Regular show, Adventure time, Gumball
I remember watching the series and I can relate so much to Mordecai's relationships. Ups and downs between crushes and dates and how much it hurts, but I've lived with it and just gotta take care of myself first and eventually it'll be like the end of the final episode where Mordecai finally settles down with a new significant other.
20:21 Exactly, nostalgia is a base foundation and needs to be related to in order for us as viewers to relate to these characters, and only us as an older-audience can truly feel that, not the younger-audience until they grow up themselves
It always amazed me how a cartoon about young adult anthropomorphic animals could be so intense and human. I loved Regular Show and lived through its high point at almost the same age as the guys. Dropping out of school, having a dead end job, thinking your dreams are pointless, having no plan, being heart broken, finding no joy - definitely relatable. Plus, the music was always cool.
Watched this show when it first came out when I was 15, and loved every episode. I remember constantly telling my mother who I lived with at the time about the show after getting it on DVD. She wasn't interested much but came into my room during the episode "High Score" and the song 'Hangin' Tough' was playing. She is a major New Kids fan even naming me from one of the band members and decided to give the show a shot and now she loves the series as much as I do. That's what's so cool is that yes it is for kids but the adult situation, 80's music and games, and such help adults also enjoy the show as well which J.G Quintel stated he was happy to hear about.
Thank you so much. I'm working on my next video now, it should be up by the end of the week. Make sure to Subscribe & click the notification bell so you'll know when it drops.
growing up allows you to appreciate things you enjoyed in your childhood with a new , mature perspective. that's why regular show still holds up today for most of us who watched it when we were younger

My inner child was so content back then😌
Mordecai dropping his remote really hits harder then people think. I can't be the only one who can't play a single game when depressed
Hope you're doing well. I know the feeling.
@@artiemilano378 I didn't bother to read all that, I know depression can be worse than what I've experienced. No need to type an essay about it.

I have an older brother who’s extremely smart and I feel like I need to keep up with him me being the dumb one. I remember watching the Christmas episode and feeling really happy for Mordecai and Margaret resolving their feelings during the little montage…
And then it faded back in to them kissing and my smile was gone instantly. Like, maaan… come on. I was rooting for Mordecai until that happened.
Yeah what makes him a good character is the fact that he makes mistakes and is imperfect. I felt the same way.
Mordecai should have stayed with CJ.
Warms my heart how everyone in the park pitched in to make Mordecai feel better, the boys are always there for you
So much to talk about regarding all of this, but one thing that stuck out the most for me is the Mordecai recovery montage.
This right here 👏👏👏👏
Regular Show, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Amazing World of Gumball carried my childhood years
I think Regular Show was the first show I genuinely got emotionally invested in, low key made me go through roller coaster of emotions.
Benson:
The only person who gets drunk on Chicken wings
So, in the regular show universe, chicken wings are the equivalent of beer. So is beer the equivalent of chicken wings in regular show?

9:38 mordecai stop crying man! uncle grandpa is about to premier in 29 minutes!
Nah dont remind me of that acid trip💀
growing up allows you to appreciate things you enjoyed in your childhood with a new , mature perspective. that's why regular show still holds up today for most of us who watched it when we were younger
I discovered Regular Show last year, and it is real fun. Big fan.
I much preferred the original animation style, which was more flowy and natural. The later seasons were fine, they just lost a lot of character to their movements as the show went on.
Yeah, the first 1-2 Seasons had the most blursed smear frames.
@@zombies4evadude24 Yeah mate, but it looked so good! Wish they'd continued the more hand-drawn style, but overall it didn't effect the shows quality
Hey, I'm happy without yellow skips lmao
The holy trinity:
Regular Show
Adventure Time
Ninjago
Change my fucken mind.
Bruh you left out The Amazing World of Gumball lol
@@thegeeksguild2805 gumball wasn’t a big part of my child-childhood. It’s good, but it doesn’t have the nostalgia factor that (like I said) Ninjago does.
@@offlinemedia1784 Fair enough, I can respect that. I get super nostalgic from the orginal Ben 10 & Camp Lazlo so I get what you're saying
I really teared up with the ending bro I love this video can't wait to watch more of youre content.
"Jolly good show" ....🥺jolly.... good.... show.....
