    This video is a DIY Repair for a few potential problems the Canon EOS 1, 1N and 3 film camera bodies that can have the BC Error. The video show some things to check on the body first that sometimes resolve some problems these cameras can have. Then if that does not work I also show how to disassemble the camera and get the mirror magnets to start working again. A good beating!
    Then also how to reassemble the camera again.
    Note: The 1V / 1VHS is disassemble differently so this video will not help for that camera.
    Hope this helps someone.

    Hello from Dublin, Ireland. Thanks so much for this. I've two of these babies. Both have been mothballed for a few years since I went Digital. I decided to put a few rolls of Neopan through them for old times sake. The 1n woke from its slumber as if I had put it away yesterday. The Eos1 however, gave me the BC error. Rang around a few repair centres here and they refused to touch it. So after cleaning it and all the contacts, I thought I'd have nothing to lose. Followed each step closely, pausing and unscrewing. Tapped the magnet gently and nothing. Thought to myself, at least I've an ornament that traveled around the world with me. Tapped a few more times dejected, the mirror popped up and the shutter released. It stuttered and the motordrive sprang into action. I set the shutter to 1/8000 and rattled off 300 shots. This morning fired off another 50. All seem right in the world. If you're ever in this neck of the woods, I owe you a few pints. Thanks once again you resurrected something I thought lost.

    Just tried it without disassembly and used a strong magnet in the general area and it brought life back to my dads 1n!

    COOOOOOLLLLLLLL :-) :-) I just repaired TWO of my 1n bodies, without even opening them. I just tapped with a folded pocketknife on the bajonet, at the spot nearest to the magnets, as you point them out to us. GREAT. My one 1n was set aside 14 years ago, I thought it was dead. My second 1n developed this problem recently, after sitting for 10 years. Few weeks ago it did work, but today I tried and nothing.. BC error... Everything else seemed to be in great shape, did AF well etc.. Glad to have found your video. This was of great help to me.

    my flatmate got a EOS 1 for cheap on ebay because of this error, thanks to your video the camera now works like a charm !
    I'm discovering your channel, great stuff :)

      +Arthur Silve Oh cool thanks! If it was from ebay I actually still recommend returning it actually if you can. The problem might keep coming back with some bodies. Unless you got it SUPER cheap then it's worth keeping for sure ;)

    • @polyarthus4282
      @polyarthus4282 8 лет назад

      Well he got it for 38 bucks "for parts" because of this, so no return possible. And you're right, the problem showed again :/ (he's good for a feelings rollercoaster with this camera for sure)
      As far as I understand, it's accumulating dirt on the magnet that cause this problem? (quite similar with minox 35 illness i'd say) have you tried to disassemble the body further to access and clean the magnet? Or maybe just remove the blue plastic cover would do the trick even if it's kind of a dirty repair?

    • @CannonFastReviews
      @CannonFastReviews  8 лет назад

      +Arthur Silve Oh shoot well there is 3 things you can do. 1 is remove the unit and swap it with another one that had other problems but good magnets. I wouldn't bother.
      Second is you can actually cut into that little white (maybe blue) square piece of plastic and you can blow out the magnets (dirt) and close it up again. I have only done this one time but it worked. Just a little hard getting in there but it does work from my limited attempts.
      The other option is what many people have commented on my other video's (3 total on this topic) and what they do is just bang on this area with their fist and it keeps it going. Might ruin a film frame but it seems to work. I have now done this many times and Yes it does seem to work. This is simpler then disassembling the camera over and over again.
      I did this a few times over and over again with about 3 cameras and eventually completely cleared the problem. But I have had about 3 others that simply never stopped giving the problem and I eventually parted them out or dumped them on ebay.
      Personally I would try beating it without film over a couple weeks so you don't have to keep dissembling it and see if that clears the problem.
      If not you might want to try cutting into the magnet box and blowing it out.
      After that I would just send it back on ebay as a "buy it now" and you might even make some money back if you list it with good photos and description and are patient to keep listing it. Stuff does sell high eventually...

    So I was terrified to even try this and started googling camera repair shops...then I remembered the video where you said “magnet” and I thought what the hell I have a couple neodymium magnets stuck to my fridge. I I rubbed it around right above where the magnet would be through the casing and presto! Started firing no problem. No screw drivers or dismantling. I mean probably was risky considering magnets and electronics don’t mix well but it worked.

      Hum not sure anymore. You might need to call around for the 1V. They typically don't have the same issue as this.

    Hi, very exited to have found this video, thanks! Q: I got an eos-1v and find the rubber covering on the customisation door gets sticky over time, quite annoying especially when taking my hand off the grip, this flappy thing just pops open as if it wouldn't let my palm go, so I was thinking if we could swap it with the said door on the eos-1since it didn't have any covering to begin with? Ideally without going to an specialist of course. Thanks again.

      There is a even simpler fix. This is a very common problem with lots of EOS camera but I haven't seen a 1V with that problem yet. All you have to do is scrub the breaking down rubber with rubbing alcohol and it will come off black on your cloth. Eventually you will have the pattern but no sticky.
      Taking apart these cameras will take you a lot longer and could tear a ribbon. Personally I would just scrub it off with alcohol. I have done a ton of these over the years.

    Todd, I just pickup a Cannon 1N, when I look into the viewfinder it seems that I am getting a lens aperture view in auto and M, not a full seen view. I tried several of my EF lens and my old Olympus lens with canon adapters. It does not seem like a mirror issue and I am not getting a BC error. When I slowly move my eye back from the viewfinder the view gets larger, but when I move closer it gives me the aperture circle view, I hope I am making sense.

    • @CannonFastReviews

      +GhostBusa Hum I have not heard of this happening before but a few things come to mind.
      If you think the lens is stopping down attached to the body it may be an electrical problem stopping the lens down. You can simply check to see if this is actually happening just by looking through the lens. If the aperture is stopping down you should be able to see the aperture blades through the lens looking in.
      But if your seeing it with MF Olympus lenses attached via adapter ring then this won't apply.
      Then it could mean you have a super precision focusing screen installed. This is a good thing if your using manual focus lenses and those screens are expensive and could mean someone installed it in the camera. The drawback with those screens is that with slower lenses like 3.5-5.6 you will get dark vignetting in the viewfinder.
      Super precision focusing screens are designed for fast lenses like f/1.4 lenses and don't have this problem.
      If this is the case you can just buy the original screen and swap them out.
      Let me know if this helps.

      I need to check on more thing, I have the power grip in which I put new battery into the grip. Then I thought I should check the battery in the camera, no battery. So let me get a battery to see if this is the problem.

    Hi ! I followed the video and knocked the magnets, however, the shutter worked only one time. I have to knock it again and the shutter worked another time only. Is the magnets dead or other problems? Should I send it to a repair shop or I can change the magnets by myself if I can find a part?
    Thank you!

    • @CannonFastReviews
      @CannonFastReviews  7 лет назад +1

      Some of them are simply stubborn and will never recover. If you keep doing it something they will totally free up but sometimes they will work perfect for a day and then get stuck again.
      Repair shops won't be able to do it or if you do find one that can it will be WAY more then what the cameras are worth on ebay now.
      If you find a damaged camera on ebay you can do a full teardown and swap the part but its a big job. Another option is to cut open the box and clean the magnets but I have done it and its not a fun job.
      Sadly in my opinion the best option is to just return yours if possibly or sell it for parts and buy another on ebay.
      Unless you keep trying and get get them to free up. It does happen often that they will eventually start working.

      Cannon Fast Reviews ... I have an EOS 1 with the bc error, but it only happens if the booster drive is connected. This has only started in the last few weeks.
      The body works perfectly if the standard grip is fitted ..... any ideas ?
