- The Salton Sea is a interesting part of the state that is home to California's largest lake. The lake is not something you can really explore, but the surrounding are has tons of fun places to see like Salvation Mountain and all of the art installations at Bombay Beach. I spent the day exploring the Salton Sea with my friends in Oddity Odysseys and here is the full video.

This place is cool and eerie at the same time. It’s like bits and pieces of a broken dream.
Yea, that is a great way to describe it!
That sandwich is NEXT LEVEL!
You’re so right about hidden treasures out there.
May be biased but CA truly is a gold mine of exploration. It would take a lifetime to see it all just in our beautiful state. 💗
It’s so great to see the love and care put into the upkeep and restoration of Salvation Mountain
I agree, it is so cool to see
Salvation Mountain is so iconic! The artwork is unique. Don't forget that it was part of the storyline for a Bosch Episode!!!
It is iconic! I didn't know it was in a Bosch episode, I will have to look it up
Your work just keeps getting better and better Josh.
Very kind of you to say!
Thanks for the fun day, Josh! Good times, great burgers, and awesome exploration.
GTA 5... Area does actually look amazing. Thanks so much for exploring it for us.
Josh in all odyssey ( honesty ) just a small joke they're to our friends in oddity odyssey
have you ever considered writing a book or something small about your travels honestly. Your channel is so great in context as you have inspired me and many others to travel. Your such a beam of light that I would think it would be cool to read about your experience and travels on yourself or even on the start of your youtube channel
Great video. I loved the oasis hike. Those palms were dreamy!
As always, thanks for adding to my bucket list 🙌🏾
That’s a big big shame what’s happening to it cos of the rain but happy that ppl are fixing it tho so love to see this
Wow! The world needs more of these creators. Keep uploading!💯👍
I always love seeing you come out here. I live close by and even I forget that some of these places exist. I'm glad you went to TKB's. That place is the best.
Been to the Salton Sea with a buddy of mine 3 times. Checked out bombay beach & etc. Such an interest man made sea.
Nice collab! Bakery food looks yummy.
You should check out the Fountain of Youth Spa and RV Resort, about halfway between Slab City and Bombay Beach. Great place with hot mineral springs.
We moved from 29 Palms to North Carolina a year ago. Salton Sea used to be my favorite place for photoshoots. Just seeing what you've captured in this latest trip, is so different from just a year ago. Thanks for everything you do, it makes me feel at home.
Awesome video! Thanks for adding your personal connections which bring depth and intrigue beyond the location.
No problem, I was wondering if people would like that or not. Thanks for the comment!
Amazing!! Thank you for planning it out. Going next weekend.
This area looks like a beautiful outdoor installation. Somebody or many people are definitely keeping that area clean. I have driven out here once, but I definitely need to return again.
Great collab with Drew and Bethany. I like the different styles between the two channel. They both have a spirit of wonder and adventure in storytelling.
However, Josh's cinematogaphy and camera equipment is clearly big screen quality. Also, the story of meeting the original creator and the many previous visits to this area was very interesting. Now, I will click over to Oddity Oddysseys channel.
This was fun. I just visited out here a couple of years ago. I’d maybe warn people a bit more about NOT driving on the beach. 2 hours of digging and $400 for a tow, we learned it the hard way.
I love watching both you and Oddity Odysseys. Great to see you both in a video together.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Josh this was an AMAZING surprise collab !! Thanks to Drew & Bethany as well. I love both of your channels. Safe Travels Amigos ❤️
My last trip to Bombay Beach was Feb 2020 right before the pandemic began. At that time, the shoreline wasn't close to the swing at all. These girls that happened to be there at the same time and let me barrow a pair of wading pants to try to walk out to it. It got deep really fast which surprised me. I didn't make it all the way due to the bottom being very soft and I didn't want to get stuck or fall over, but it was still cool. I"m shocked as to how fast the sea evaporated within 3 years. I'm going to have to go back out there soon.
Thank you for updating your past videos and see whats new at each location (when you go back on the re-visits).
Glad you like them!
Been to that whole area numerous times! so interesting!
I really wanted to go to the Salton Sea when I was in Joshua Tree last year but I ran out of time. 😢 Hopefully someday! Great video as always. Love the Oddity Odysseys channel.
Very fun...thank you!
Great video!! You inspire us to get out of the house and explore 🤩 Thank you so much 😊
Awesome, so glad to hear that!
Fascinating video!!! You’re keeping some good company there, Josh.
Always a blast to hang out with the Oddity Odessey's crew
Very interesting video🥰 👍 20
Salton Sea is a weird kind of place. Part of me has wanted to see it for years and another part of me has no interest....hehe. Cool stuff there for sure. I didn't know it was considered the largest lake. The part that isn't interested in seeing it always seems to win when I'm driving by, which isn't that often. But like I mentioned, some cool stuff there. Thanks for sharing Josh!
Yea it is certainly a unique spot with some cool stuff and some not so cool stuff haha
Good stuff MrJosh☺️👍🏻👏🏼
Wow nice view
Love the Salton Sea. I remember camping there in the 70’s with family. Love that it’s reinvented with art.
Most of all I love your ending up at TKB. The best sandwiches and baked goods in the desert. I never miss TKB when I’m anywhere near Indio.
I want to chime in on that there’s so much cool stuff to see, you don’t even need to go that far. Everyone is obsessed with the latest viral craze, and seeing everything far and wide. But if you have a car, bike, or time to hike and just start exploring, and go to the same places over and over again, you discover new things as you become an expert of the region.
I totally understood what you meant that you have a connection with a location when you first started exploring. And for me, that is Big Sur from 2018 for camping (and now I go once a year), Anza for overlanding, and the central coast for cycling.
Enjoyed the collaboration with OO. Awesome video. Gorgeous photography especially at the sunset time. It's been about 10 years since I have been to the Salton Sea, and my impressions of it had nothing to do with beauty for any of the senses. It was a smelly, ugly, sad place. Thanks for showing this side of it. I just might go back, after all. In Indio, does Shields still make those awesome Date Shakes?
Was out there a few years back, even got a photo with the front porch at 8:30
Always good to see you having fun Josh..I remember going to the drive in lots of fun..maybe those art installations are more for looking not touching, climbing on etc so they last longer??
WOW I want to go check this out. It looks so awesome. 🙌🏽
It's certainly a unique spot!
I've never been to Salton Sea. I gotta make a trip out there
This has been a fascinating area since I first saw it in 1959. You should go a bit further east and do a piece in the Algodones Dunes.
They added salvation mountain in gta 5 it’s really cool you can wonder the whole thing
Loved the video. Subscribed
Very cool video, the area has a bit of the Burning Man vibe, with people being able to be free to express themselves in unconventional ways! Thanks for sharing!
What a spot!
Love the collab with OO!
I grew up in the East Bay, and for years the Emeryville salt flats hosted ever changing art structures. Sadly, development ended it.
As always...
Tried to visit Salvation Mountain a few years ago, but it was a long drive at the end of a busy day. Hope to actually see it before too long. Have two recommendations for you that I just visited this past weekend. You should definitely visit The Mosaic House in Venice, CA and Rubel Castle in Glendora, CA. Both are fantastic.
Great video Josh. Interesting art work out there.
2nd to Death Valley, I want to go here! I've been to DV!!
Cool video Josh as usual. Love your work. Just wondering what picture profile settings you use on your Sony… looking forward to hearing what you use … and looking forward to seeing more of your work this year
Thank you for sharing this gem info with us. Great work you’re doing.
My pleasure! Thanks for the comment
Thanks for watching! Check out Oddity Odysseys video here - ruclips.net/video/jW4CivuuIhI/видео.html
TKB is the 💣
LOVE ♥️♥️♥️👍
Was the Tesla solar charger an art piece? Everything was kinda random so I won’t be surprised if it was. Salvation mountain is unique, kinda miss the time I went to explore it.
Yea it was just an art piece not an actual charger
Josh, that dollar bill needs to be in the Clown Museum!
haha it should!
Where is Salvation Mountain relative to the Salton Sea? Is it off CA 111? Love all your videos.
Hi! Great video! Interesting points.. Would u find it safe to travel here solo as a female?
Not sure if I can comment on that, but whenever I have visited Salvation Mountain and Bombay Beach I have always been around other people that were also exploring the sites. Maybe comment this on Oddity Odessey's video and see what Bethany thinks.
Alamo Sea!
Does it still smell out there?
Down by the water it can smell but not really anywhere else.
@@californiathroughmylens thanks, I’ve always wanted to visit after seeing your first video, but haven’t had a chance to go yet. One time we changed our mind because we heard the sea was really smelly.
❤
Why reference LA when many of us don't live in that cesspool
You're friend's our my friends too
peolpe ask me about my new odysseys tee shirt and they have no idea what I'm talking about
Are you really allergic to cats?
Just let the mountain be subject to nature's elements and put up a fence and warning signs. That wouldn't be "destroying" it. Just letting it go the way of it's creator.
