That’s one of the best airplane videos I’ve seen on RUclips recently! First of all, wow... That landing was very long! That in itself was ripe for clickbait, but your honesty and directness are refreshing. It was a good move to boost your confidence by having an instructor present and going all out, requesting warts ‘n all! Your honesty in wanting to pinpoint and address a weakness is so refreshing (and we all really need that honest reflection!), and I’m certain, as a result, your flying progress will significantly increase. A great vid, thank you for posting 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻 PS those water landings were awesome!

Thank you Kevin, I really appreciate your comments. The advantage of landing on water is that we have practically unlimited “runway”. Obviously getting better at precision 6:32 spot landings in this plane is going to take a little time…

I have no desire to fly a seaplane, but this is an amazing video with lots to learn

I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Seaplanes are a lot of fun... you should try floats sometime!

Good video and great content Mark. We should all be always learning and what better than to share a flight with an instructor or very competent and experienced pilot. That water was VERY flat. Interesting points about YouTubing pilots. I will show and share my mistakes without making a big thing of it if they are there and not preach about on what we should be doing . I think it is important to capture the fun side of our GA flying to encourage people but I appreciate that my 'Last of the Summer Wine' format is not to everyone's taste. 🙂

We LOVE your format Tim! Don’t change a thing 🏆

Thanks for your comments. We use stage 2 flaps for landing.
I’d love to go to Canada someday… it’s on my wish list!

Thanks for sharing this! Good that you seeked for additional training!! Just got myself a 1977 185 on amphibs and only did one flight in her so far. Looking forward to get checked out next season!
Where are you landing in the water over there? Can you go somewhere else in France other than Biscarosse lake?

Hi, and thanks for your comment. Yes there are other "hydrosurfaces" (seaplane bases) available, but most of them require prior permission. On a more local level, we have access to other lakes in the region: Cazaux, Lacanau and Carcans. Where are you based? Lucky guy with your new plane!

I’m based in Germany but my seaplane will be based at Siljan airpark, Sweden 🇸🇪 permanently

No crosswind correction after touchdown. That's why you're drifting to the right and the brakes didn't work as well as they should have.
Be honest with you I can just tell that you're over your head in that airplane. Getting more hours of duel.
And don't ask the flight instructor to pay for half the cost of flying. If it's good advice he's not going to give it to you for free. Pay them.
Fly safe. Have fun. And don't end up on Juan Brown's RUclips channel.

@@mancer0 thanks for your comments. I promise I only split costs with an instructor friend if we’re going travelling somewhere together! I should add that the majority of flying club instructors in France are volunteers, not commercial pilots.

    I have a 185 on wheels.
Yes, you need to be up high in the seat and you need to be able to get on the brakes good and proper. When I started flying this aircraft, I used a cushion behind my back to get me forward, even though I'm 5'11". I don't anymore, but you really need to feel like you can get on the brakes. This is not an aircraft you fly on wheels leaning back, relaxed. Can't imagine it's different on amphibs.
And only 10 degrees of flap into an 800m runway?! Is that how you approach on amphibs? I use 40 for all landings, except if significant crosswind.
Go to the US or Canada and get some proper tuition.

The pilot position, beyond all the other errors, he is way to low in his seat. This is paramount to solving all other problems...seat position is critical!
