So you need to have both. All I needed to know. :)
On the clean sounds, I personally favored Eagle V because it had more "squawk", which I like, but overdriven humbuckers were very similar, at least to my old ears. Thanks for the useful demo. Actually, my Eagle V is supposed to arrive this month (March) from Sweetwater, but we shall see.
Hey what’s about your V now
excellent job on comparison. I guess they do sound different for sure. I just ordered a 509 yesterday. My first PRS. Always been Les Paul and fender fan. Was really struggling which to get the 509 or Eagle. Figured I get the 509 since they are not made any more and if I feel I still need an Eagle they are still being made. Must say I like the bridge PU on the eagle better though. Great job !
They are both great, very different. MV5 is very mid frequency focused, whilst 509 has a much deeper frequency range. I’ve had both and like them for what they bring. I’d definitely say that the 509 would be a better LP replacement if that’s your focus, while the MV5 is a better Strat and super Strat overall option.
Thanks for your comment , such a great information for decision.
I always feel that on paper PRS are the absolute perfect guitars I just wish they'd make options slightly more suitable for shred. Not everyone loves the feel of round necks but Paul is very stubborn about thin necks and flatter fretboards apparently
And why mostly rosewood fingerboards all the time? That’s the main reason I’ve never bought a PRS because I play maple or ebony fingerboards and those options are very limited in the PRS line.
Get a PrS ce 24, those mostly come with a an ebony neck. They come with a thinner neck too and they are good for shredding, plus they are much more economic than the full core, but still made in USA. I got one and it’s great.
You try the ones with the wide fat necks and high out put pickups? I have a 2004 custom 24 ten top that shreds
Paul knows his market. Most (not all) of us who spend north of $4-$5k on a guitar are over 40, like more vintage tones.
That’s generalizing, of course, but just an observation based on my friends. I’m an older dude who listens to shred guitar, but my original music and preferred tone are in the Les Paul / Marshall or clean strat territory, so a great “does it all” is a guitar like on of these. I’ve owned a Majesty, and as much as I Love Petrucci, it didn’t do a thing for me - it didn’t feel or sound right in my hands. In his for sure - and he and I are only 20 days apart in age, with the same influences.
How is round neck better for shredding than flat neck?
Thanks for comparison. 😊
Must be heard with headphone to hear the difference. I like the VS 509 better. 🎸🎸
I like em both but am in love with my 2014 30th Anniversary CU 24 10 Top with 85/15s
Man... The 509 sounds perfect!
Oh this top...
what finish is the modern eagle V?

509 by a mile for me. Too much high end off the eagle
509!509!
509……….
Blind test and no one will hear the difference
