      @@Zara_Beth the anxiety or depression would have to be as bad as disabling u. Like u wouldn't be able to go through your life withought one. And service dogs r usually the LAST resort. There r so many other things u can try before getting a SD. like therapy and medication. and then at the same time don't mistake a SD for a emotional support.

    I feel guilty for wanting one, mostly because my illiness is something you cannot see. But if I am not with close people, or family in public I'm horrifed. My family already worries about me at home with my depression, an animal to comfort me and keep me safe would work well. Espically with the fact that when I am alone at night/early morning, I am very anxious. For some reason I obsess over the thought of someone coming to murder me, that something is in the closet and I have to check, etc. That's just the basics of my mental disorders. Does anyone think I should get one?

      Please talk to a doctor before even thinking about getting a service dog. :/ and it's not like you get a dog and call it a service dog. It takes up alot of time and money. It usually takes up to 2-3 year's to fully train one as well.

    I just thought that I should add that emotional support animals are different than service dogs and do not have public access. They require a doctors note and are only allowed to fly on airplanes, live in places with dog restrictions, and accompany their owner at hotels. Where service dogs can do those things and accompany their handlers in public places like restaurants and stores.

      Not under ADA law, but many states do allow ESA's in public

    • @ronwells8375

      My granddaughter has an ESA that is federally registered. She has PTSD. her dog can and does have federal rights to enter all public vendors and can travel air/water... Her dog is tagged with her registration # on tags, collar, vest and leash. on the leash is a window for the ID card. With the federal law code# and federal 1-800#.. it states, no federally registered ESA can be refused excess or denied. Under this code# it is a federal and state crime against the ESA .Anyone that denies access can and will be fined and prosecuted under the federal and state law.
      So, you know we have one ESA and one ESA/Service dog. both are protected by law on a federal and state level. The registration last a lifetime, and. .. it includes, if, the animal is harmed, kidnapped, neglected, abused. Such individuals will be prosecuted under the federal law to the fullest extent.
      I know this information first hand, I have the registration in a frame along with ID cards in my wallet.

    • @ronwells8375
      @ronwells8375 8 лет назад +2

      I wanted too add, pet fee's for hotels are not to be charged for the ESA/Service dog. Under the fair housing, Service/ESA can not denied boarding nor, charged a pet fee. These work dog's are considered agents.
      To aquire a legal registration # the dog has to pass a series of tests.
      But, again. ESA & SERVICE Dog's are heavily protected under law and can enter any place public, they cannot or, the owner cannot be legally charged for a space for the animal to sit. ( travel reference). The owner can sit anywhere in a restaurant. movie theater, ect..
      normally, the vest will state "Do not pet, Animal at work"/ ESA DOG or, SERVICE DOG. the collars, vest are normally red for alert.
      AND, under the federal and state law. No owner has to show ANY documentation of why the dog is deemed an ESA or, Service animal. This is a violation under the hippa law. privacy act. of the owner, the only letter you mentioned is a letter by a doctor for the registration process. Not for the general public knowledge.

    While I do like this video, I think that it is up to the handler on whether or not they allow people to pet their dog while working.
    And also, doing laundry and bringing a phone, as well as med reminders aren't tasks that would hold up in court for a SD for depression. There's a fine line for that.

    • @bookwormkiara5468
      @bookwormkiara5468 5 лет назад +1

      True! I am currently in the process of applying for a psychiatric service dog, and unless it is strongly discouraged by the trainers who worked with my dog, I plan to have patches that say "ask before you pet". That way, I'm not forbidding people from coming up to me (I love dogs too and understand some people don't mean any harm), but I'm also specifying that you have to ask and can't just start petting or talking to my dog.

    • @lideabarker8161
      @lideabarker8161 2 года назад

      I know this is an old comment but I just have to respond, YES, it is a very fine line, this video is just as confusing as the ADA. the fact that a person with anxiety /depression can use a service dog but people with the same issues are told their dog is just an ESA is ridiculous. It is all the same thing. A comfort dog is not allowed into public places but a service dog is? My dog does the same tasks that these service dogs are shown doing. How am I supposed to make people understand she IS a service dog? I am disabled by all of my mental issues and have been receiving SSDI for it. Still I get people telling me I don't have service dog status. I don't get it. I need her to function.

    I feel really guilty that I want one but the thing is, is that if I don't know someone I get very bad anxiety especially if a guardian is not there. And when I am alone at night and early in the morning I just this feeling that someone is coming to slaughter me. Especially when I'm not at home. Sometimes if I need to go to the bathroom at night or early in the morning I HAVE to hold it in. And if I don't then I stay in the bathroom until I feel safe enough to come out. My dad never really pays attention to me so he doesn't ever notice.

    Honestly, if my family believed me on my anxiety, I would love to get my own dog trained to be a sd or an esd, but none of them believe how bad my anxiety and depression are. I can't even get the motivation to start training her myself... Though, she's picked up on a few things just by watching me. Now she'll often come up to me if I'm visibly upset and just stand there until I pet her. Other times she just watches me closely if I'm crying and gets me to actually talk to her.
    Edit: I have been diagnosed with severe depression and a panic disorder. My dads also taken me off of medication without any professional advice on it and has stopped taking me to a therapist for money reasons. So if you're gonna hate on me, at least do it knowing that this is debilitating for me.

    • @ronwells8375
      @ronwells8375 8 лет назад +30

      not a service dog, you need an ESA dog. (emotional support animal). a service dog is for physical disability, such as seizures, blindness, strokes, heart condition, ect. they are trained to protect their owner and even brake falls.
      emotional service dog's are trained to calm an individual. normally, a ESA can sense 15 minutes before, an attack happens in the owner. A ESA has to bond with the owner in every situation, this animal sleeps, eats, pretty much is your shadow. I've trained both ESA and Service dog's.
      best dog for your needs would be an Olde English Bulldogge. They are very intuitive, loving and devoted to there owner. they are indoor dog's. weigh about 30 to 60 pounds, I suggest these breed for the massive factor, when you're have an emotional moment, their weigh against you will comfort. they are not to large for a bed buddy,.. registered ESA or not, a dog will give you a feeling of security and being. I suggest get a dog, look into a rescue that has this breed and skip puppy months. An older dog is more settled, look into a three year old. Good luck!

      skip down to the comment "N" 2 below your comment. I added ESA information on this comment.
      I highly suggest, a rescue near you for a rescue dog. most breeders ask three times the amount for a good dog. most dog's in a rescue are animals older people can't afford to feed or, ppl moving into apartments or, no dog zones.
      don't overlook a possible good animal in a rescue.
      take your time in looking and let the dog come to you, if, the dog comes to you. he or, she is willingly bonding with you. make sure,... if, you select the breed I suggested. it's nose isn't to flat... this can cause the animal breathing issues.
      note: feed you dog a good quality food without red dyes. you don't want a gasy dog ..Iams is want I use. again, good luck!
      be blessed and smile!

      Shocking Ember What the other comment or said is false you may qualify for a service dog. Because they exist for mental disabilities. In your case a service dog for you could do deep presure therapy, alert to anxiety attacks, exit you to a location turn on off lights and so on. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I have a service dog for mental disabilities.

    My teen age daughter is bipolar and struggles with some pretty bad days with anxiety and panic attacks. Since her room is her sanctuary she asked if she could get a chinchilla, we already have a dog but he is not a service dog,. Just watching him run around and go crazy laughing at some of his craziness like pop Corning and jumping on the side of the walls when he is in his ex-large playpen he will even play with our border collie. So he has been labeled a service animal and she will bring him to school when her anxiety is at it's worse.

      A service Animal (dog OR somethimes a miniture horse) must be able to preform tasks related to the disability. If the animal only provides emotional support then they are not considered a service animal but an emotional support animal.

I have anxiety and it's gotten to the point where I wake up crying every single day of my life because I don't want to leave the house.. and also on holidays and weekends, I like hardly ever leave the house but it's getting worse but my mum keeps saying that she used to get the same thing I get and to try deep breathing and to talk to a counsellor..
      talking to someone doesn't help me; in fact it makes everything worse, deep breathing never helps me.. my teachers yell at me for not focusing when I can't focus and then I end up crying and then everyone calls me a crybaby..

    I have Severe Anxiety, OCD, and Major depression and I was diagnosed in mental hospital which I've been to twice. My entire life I've struggled going to school and the last time I actually went more than a couple months was in 3rd grade and I'm currently in 9th. I struggle getting myself up in the mornings and I'm always over thinking things, getting nervous or angry (in an anxious way) easily and I struggle with human contact as I don't like hugging or anything physical unless I ask for it. I keep myself from crying when talking to people, and I can't speak on phones as it makes me panic. Approaching someone is my worst nightmare and it took me 4 weeks to tell my classmate I liked her backpack because I was too scared to approach her. I grew up with a Pomeranian, (whom is living with my mom in Texas as I recently moved across the states with family to go to school as a freshman, it's going well but I'm still struggling so much) and she always knows when I'm sad and comes in my room and makes me pet her. Surprisingly her thick fur always makes me so happy to pet and I always feel better with her around. I'm only going to 2 classes a day out of 4 as it's too much for me to handle, and we have a service dog class (which I've yet to join because it's too much for me ATM) and it's got my family thinking about getting me one. A therapy dog sounds so nice and I would like a Pomeranian if I could get one but I don't know hardly anything about it? How do I get one, train it, make it legal so I can take it to school, are Pomeranians good for therapy dogs, and how much do they cost or can I sign up to get one cheap or free? If anyone can I'd love to know as much as possible!💕

    My dog makes me get out and about to walk her so I pick places like the library and shipping to take her and of course the leash free park, other people talk to me and her and that makes me feel like a part of something then those same people wave and or greet me even when my dog is not around. I have chronic anxiety and depression and my routine works because of my dog, it even makes me now the lawn and make a nice garden for her to get shade. Don't think I lay around all day making my dog lay with me like the picture on this video suggests. No it's not all roses it's frustrating until you get a routine because I felt sorry for the dog being stuck here with me (worthless feelings) but that makes you get up and grumble but still walk the dog and once you have done something you feel better, you can't do this without a dog because you don't have the conviction, you need something like a dog to make you get out of bed and shower etc but then you have to deal with people who think your faking your disability, like who would want to fake such a thing unless they were a different kind of sick. Thanks for reading my story.

    For people who have service dogs;
    I feel like I would benefit from one (I need to go and talk to a therapist, get diagnosed etc) but I believe I suffer from social anxiety and depression. A friend of mine with bipolar depression believes I might even have bpd. My anxiety is pretty bad in public places, I pick at the skin on my arms when anxious or stressed (I’m covered in small circular scars on my arms even damaging my tattoos) I refuse to go into public places without someone I trust and even then crowds make my heart beat what feels like out of my chest. I cry a lot and don’t know why some of the times. I always have a lot going on family wise (especially here lately) so everything has been bad, and I’ve struggled with getting myself out of bed, showering, I don’t feel the need to brush my teeth because “why do I care” type of feeling. I thought it’d get better when I got a boyfriend and it kind of has but I’m still doing pretty bad. Could I benefit from a service dog?

      ESA's have 0 Public access rights, unlike service animals who are tasked trained to mitigate or help with one's disabled needs. However, ESA's can live in no pet housing and ride on airplanes as long as you have a doctor note/letter. There is no legal registration for ESA's, TD'S, or SD's and they are scams.

      Support animals have 0 Public access rights other than Non-pet-friendly housing, airplanes, and pet-friendly stores. Also, ESA's require no training at all. If the Anxiety is disabling where you cannot function on your own then you're looking for a psychiatric service dog which is way beyond the ESA Limit. Also the dog will need to be tasked trained it can't just "help." you with it Unless it naturally senses your Hydroneline levels increasing as The Anxiety Hits in.

    I have not been diagnosed with any severe anxiety or severe depression yet, but I have been getting panic attacks very often in the last few days and every day at school I almost feel as if ill have a panic attack or sometimes even pass out/faint due to the noise or the sheer amount of people around me in the hall. I get extremely dizzy. I have also been having stomach issues but I dont think they matter much, were working it out with the doctor. They also think the dizziness may be due to dehydration so ive started bringing a water bottle to school.
    For the dizziness we think it is due to anxiety for me not doing my work and my parents on me about it often. But me personally, I dont think thats the case because its only in school or places with a large amount of people or a place with loud noises that I feel faint or as if i need to lean on something for support/balance or as if ill have a panic attack. Ive started to do my work in the past couple days and the feeling of faintness or as if a panic attack will happen any moment hasnt died down, in fact its gotten worse.
    If we rule out the factor of its just me having a tiny bit of a busy schedule and not being able to keep up with it, I was curious if a service animal or ESA would be a good idea for me? I actually did pass out for a short moment of time in one of my classes during a test. I dont want to end up passing out in the halls at school or kaybe during science while we work with any chemicals. So if we rule out me being stressed out due to my schedule and work ethic would a service animal or esa be a good idea?
    If so then what breed would you recommend? There isnt any guarantee that ill get one but just in case my doctor and parents do agree what breed? I was thinking a Bernese mountain dog or a golden retriever (i have a habit of thinking way ahead haha) but they may be a bit to big for school (if id need a service animal) so im not too sure.

    • @griffinsonjupiter
      @griffinsonjupiter 7 лет назад

      I think you're thinking way too far ahead. You haven't been diagnosed professionally which means you're not on meds/therapy yet which you need to try first. If something else can help you you should try that first. Next, having anxiety for the last couple days doesn't mean you need a service dog. You should try all your other options first. Service dogs should be a last resort.
      I'm sorry if that was a little harsh but service dogs aren't fun to have.

    I don't think people understand that you can't just get a service dog because you are depressed. Mental health dogs should be a last resort, and it's very reccomended that the the person who will own it trains it, because it gets you out of the house and is good for you, and the dog will learn how you feel with things, not every has the same panic attacks.

      I have a retired service dog and fixing to get a new one. I suggest talking with the doctor first, if he/she agree's to let you have a service dog, then you could start researching if you haven't yet and also discussing what would be best and if a dog would be 100% of the solution with your parent's or legal guardian. If you have done research find a breeder who is used to breeding or raising sd's and talk to them. I owner trained my first one without a trainer and my second is gonna be with a trainer. So if you don't want to owner train or owner train with a trainer an Organization could train one for you. However Some Organization's cost over 1,000$ while some are non-profitable. Also keep in mind it takes 2-3 year's to fully train a service dog even though they are normally alway's in training. This is a big thing to think about. Hope everything goes well though! ^^

    i have depression and anxiety, both of which limit the things that i used to do without them. I do not leave the house except for when i have to (school, therapy) and I often feel scared and unsafe when i do (also i appreciate solitude more than anything else, probably too much actually). i have always had trouble making friends, and i did a test this week because my therapist and parents think i might have autism. my mental illnesses are pretty bad, but not to the point where i am a danger to myself (suicidal) or those around me (aggression problems) i wonder if i would qualify for a service dog. i have also heard of ESAs, but I am not sure whether i’m just exaggerating because there are a lot of people that are doing much worse than me, and i don’t want to disrespect this community. I would love to hear your opinion on my options, and whether you think i would qualify for a service dog (also if you think i would, how do you think i could introduce this idea to my therapist and parents?) thanks!

    I really want to get a service dog because of my anxiety and depression problems but in my school there’s a few people who has some kind of disorder and they don’t have a service dog. I don’t want the people around me to think that I’m being dramatic because I “only” have anxiety and depression while someone else have adhd or maybe worse, the thing is that I just don’t want to bring attention to myself. And I really want to talk to my parent a bout it but I’m just to scared to tell them about my anxieties.
    I know how they would react and I know they will just think that I’m being over dramatic, the reason I know this is because I’ve been trying to ask them for a pet when I didn’t know that I had anxiety, but they said that they didn’t like “animals” or anything and that they “stinks”.

If you're legally disabled however and you cannot function out of your house on your own a dog can be tasked trained to mitigate your disabilities then yes you qualify. If not then no. I think it's up to you and your medical health adviser to see if they would agree if you qualified or not.

    I have a few questions,
    First, how old must you be to get a service dog/emotional support dog? I'm under 18 and I'm not sure on how old you got to be.
    Second, lets say I get a dog, im not quite sure which one I should get? I have really bad depression and anxiety. (I guess I sometimes get panic attacks too) I never get out of the house and I hate being in crowds, and I don't like being alone or near strangers. For instance when I walk around by myself I'm public I usually keep looking around as if someone was watching/out to get me. When I'm walking home from school and someone is on the same sidewalk as me I usually start to shake. For some reason I start acting really bad around male adults. When I encounter a adult male walking on the same sidewalk as me I shake really bad and start to hyperventilate, or I feel as if I can't breathe.
    Third, lastly *if* I actually were to get one out of the two dogs, which breed would you recommend?

    • @HerShenanigans
      @HerShenanigans 7 лет назад +1

      You can be any age. I'm 13 and i used to have a service dog. Also it's not like you just get a dog and call it a service dog. You can either start basic obedience with it or talk with some service dog trainer's or program's. I Suggest: Rottie's, Golden doodle's, Poodle's, Lab mix's, Spaniel's, Lab retriever mix, Golden retriever. But service dog's come in a whole different verity. My previous service dog was a Rat terrier mix. Next one is gonna be a chow. Also keep in mind service dog training takes 2-3 year's to fully train and it's always Very important to have a doctor's opinion. Normally without doctor's opinion you could get in a lot of hefty trouble.

    an emotional support animal and a service animal are NOT the same. a service animal does a task for someone with a medical disability. ie pull a wheelchair, help a blind person, alert them of a seizure. this doest not include emotional support. only service animals are allowed ada protection of full access rights. you cant take an emotional support animal shopping, out to eat with you etc. you can take an emotional support animal (after you have obtained a doctors note stating you need an emotional support animal) on an airplane, bus, or in a apartment that you rent that doesnt allow pets.

      Guide Dogs assist blind and
      visually impaired people by avoiding obstacles, stopping at curbs and
      steps, and negotiating traffic. The harness and U-shaped handle fosters communication between the dog and the blind partner.

      @@stormtrooper88, there are such things as psychiatric service dogs because certain levels or kinds can disable an indavisual. Like PTSD service dogs who alert and respond to panic attacks, my SDIT is stress and anxiety response. If I get too anxious out in public my joints become very weak and I hyperventilate uncontrollably to the point my body goes numb. She helps me prevent that. But I do definitely agree that there should be a clearer difference between emotional animals and actual psychiatric service dogs. A lot of people will get diagnoses by a moron with depression and go OH I WANT A DOG TO FOLLOW ME EVERYWHERE!!! And slap a vest on their toy poodle and walk into public. People like that piss me off. In fact, the other day I saw a woman walk into Walmart carrying a toy poodle wearing a pink fluffy dress and a bright pink bow. I wanted to smack her when she said "YES SHE'S A SERVICE DOG." My ass. 😑

    • @stormtrooper88
      @stormtrooper88 5 лет назад

      @@feathersong5838 agree. a doctor must prescribe this. the DOG also must be trained with an actual task. emotional support does not qualify. you cant just say "i want to bring my DOG because it comforts me. it is LEGAL for someone to ask what task does your dog perform." the task must be something like. alerts me when i am going to or am having a panic attack. it also be supported by a doctor and not self diagnosed. if the DOG is only for emotional comfort it IS NOT a service animal. last week i got dog crap all over my wheelchair AGAIN because somebody brought their PET into the store and it crapped everywhere! my service dog would never ever do such a thing. thank god i was in my electric chair. last time i was in my manual chair. dog crap all over my hands. fyi..the law:www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm

    Hi sorry to bother but I have been trying to get answers about service dogs I have been struggling with depression and anxiety and usually these happen at home and public places I rarely get anxious at home but I do get upset and end up self harming also when I'm doing that I use it as a distraction and when I'm out in public I tend to get anxiety attacks when I'm alone or left behind with no one like when I get on a bus to school I get very anxious and overthink then start crying also there was a time my friends went on this rollercoaster and I don't like rollercoasters so I thought I should wait then I started getting a anxious because of the crowd and I ended up getting lost which led to an anxiety attack i couldn't breathe and it took about an hour for me to calm down when my friends found me they have suggesting I get a service dog to keep me company and make sure I don't get anxious when I'm alone I get paranoid when I'm out alone like when I go to a store near my house I get scared that someone is always behind me and usually I would use stress toys that my therapist gives me but I only see her twice a week so I usually end up breaking them and it results to self harm but I haven't done it recently since I was away on a trip which made everything worse on the way to the trip I got anxious and almost missed my bus because I was in a bathroom trying to calm myself down a lady found me and she ended up calming me down but I cried and hid my face the whole ride there because my mom wasn't there and when I arrived my aunt would take me out which would get me scared because of all the people and I also got in an argument several times which lead me to become more upset and cry for hours now this is new because I would just get a feeling like crying but wouldn't after an argument but now when I do I lock myself in a room and cry until I fall asleep or pass out then wake up whith heaaches it would be hard to breathe when I am in public alone but then also when I'm home and get anxious at home my parents don't know what to do and leave me alone and make me solve it on my own but it just makes it worse also i have been seeing if I need a service dog or an emotional support animal I just don't really know I have told my therapist about this but haven't gotten much about it and I don't know how to ask if I need a service dog i have been trying everything I have taken medication and used stress toys but none seems to work at this point I just feel like there will never be a way for me to go out and be peaceful without having an anxiety attack or paranoid thoughts I'm surprised I even wrote all this I just fear that I won't get an answer but hopefully I do I just want to know what should I do or if I should consider a support animal or a service dog

    TO MAKE IT CLEAR: THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SERVICE DOG AND AN EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DOG. AND ESA (EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL) IS NOT TRAINED TO PERFORM TASKS AND CANNOT BE TAKEN WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO OUT IN PUBLIC, SUCH AS TO THE STORE OR THE MOVIES. COMFORT ITSELF AND NEEDING THE OWNER TO GET UP AND PROVIDE CARE ARE NOT TRAINED TASKS AND DO NOT COUNT IN A SERVICE DOG, THOSE ARE LITERALLY WHAT AN ESA DOES. TRAINING TO ALERT TO ANXIETY, KEEP YOU DISTRACTED/YOUR FOCUS ON THE DOG, ALERTING/FINDING SOMEONE TO HELP YOU, KEEPING PEOPLE AWAY FROM YOU WHEN NEEDED AND REMINDING YOU TO TAKE MEDICATION ARE TRAINED TASKS AND QUALIFY AS SERVICE DOG TASKS. OTHER EXAMPLES INCLUDE GROUNDING AND DPT (DEEP PRESSURE THERAPY) DURING ANXIETY ATTACKS, INTERRUPTING HARMFUL BEHAVIORS, EVEN USING A SPECIAL PHONE TO CALL FOR HELP IF NEEDED.
    I wanted to clear that up. Mostly because I have a Service Dog for Anxiety (service dogs for mental illnesses are often called Psychiatric Service Dogs, or PSDs), but also because I don't want anyone misunderstanding and bringing another fake service dog into public and risking the safety of real ones.

    I'm trying to decide if I need a service dog. I definitely wouldn't get an ESA, because they don't have public access rights, and my issues only happen in public. So, recently I've had a couple of seizures caused by prolonged exposure to PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). Luckily, they've only happened at my house, not in public. I'm pretty sure they're not going to happen again, seeing as I've left the school that was causing the problems. But the seizures aren't my issue. Every time I go out in public, especially to large open stores like Walmart or something, I get this weird anxiety. My heart rate skyrockets, it's hard for me to breath because of my heartrate, my muscles start going a bit weak, and then to make things worse, I start to panic because of these things, putting me *very* close to going unconscious. I can usually snap myself out of it by a lot of blinking and trying to mentally block everything out and trying to focus on something else, but then it just comes back. After these things start, it's usually difficult for me to realize that I just need to leave and calm down. I think the reason this started was because of me being anxious that I'm going to seize again, this time in public. My thoughts are that a service dog could let me know when things are getting a bit out of hand by alerting me somehow, so that I could realize sooner that I need to leave, and it could also do deep pressure therapy to calm me down. I tried doing DPT with my pet dog, but the thing is she can't be trained to be a service dog because she's too old and is deaf and mostly blind.

    • @HerShenanigans
      @HerShenanigans 6 лет назад

      There's more than just taking a dog into public. If the animal can be tasked trained for your need's and your disabled under the ADA You would qualify for one. However, it's more up to your doctor and your self if you think you are disabled and you have disabilities interfering with the daily activities you do Then you would qualify for a service animal if not Then your only choice would be an ESA.

    Ermm im not sure i qualify or if it would help or if i even need a service dog.. But i suffer from ptsd, severe depression and anxiety. I fear being outside or around people because of the thought that someone will kill or kidnap or rape me. I absolutely fear break ins and shooting and stay up all night checking windows and i never feel safe. Im scared of cleaning supplies cause of chemicals, i fear i take wrong dosages or that ill die from something as little as dying my hair. I never know if ill have a full on panic attack and mental break downs from being in neighborhoods or stores. I cant do simple tasks to take care of myself. I can lay in bed for hours and stare at a wall. I stay up till i know ill pass out as soon as i lay down or thoughts flood my head and im bawling my eyes out. I use to self harm and i fear ill go back to it. Ive always had nightmares since i was like 7. I sometimes also feel like im back in old places ive been from ptsd for no reason or from something like looking at pictures. Ive even had a nightmare that felt so real i ended up locking myself in the bathroom freaking out trying to accept the fact someone was going to break in and kill me. Ive been suffering for about 13 years and im 18 now.

    Whenever I am left at home alone I have these panic attacks where my mind goes blank, my heart rate goes up, and I hear things. I also see things like demons/ghosts. I know it's in my head, but is that considered anxiety?
    Edit/comment: I have a panic attack every time I am alone. At night is usually when they happen. One time I had a dream where I was in a dark forest. There was a light at the end of it, but it was far. It happened fast, but I was pulled out behind be by my foot. I woke up shaking, in my bed. I couldn't move besides turning my head. I could see my older brother sleeping on the other side of the room. A book right next to my head flew into the closet door and you could here it. I was shaking so badly. After about ten minutes I finally got the courage to get up. There were scrapes on my knees that I didn't have before. But the book wasn't there. It was never there. Even though I was completely awake. Just talking about this makes my heart race. Ever since that night, I shake uncontrollably. My eyes twitch, my jaw shakes, make hands and fingers shake. It happens randomly. It's not when I am excited or scared, it just happens. I am not mentally insane or whatever. I did have cancer when I was younger, so I don't know if that has to do with anything. Know one really understands. I talk too much (as you can see lol) so people don't really listen. Thank you for reading this all, I am sorry if I took up your day.

    • @reina8942

      No. I think it's best to go to therapy before asking. I think you would be able to overcome this, and it sounds like you're young so it's very normal to panic when alone (maybe not to this extent, but it's normal.) I also think these situations can sometimes be avoided if you have parents or a sibling with you. Maybe an ESA would be a better option for you.

    I suffer from really bad depression and anxiety. I also have several panic attacks every day. I've been looking to get a service dog for a few weeks now. But I can't seem to find any program near where I live. I live in Scotland. I also can't bend down to pick stuff up off the floor because of a previous back injury. I also have spasms in my left arm and my right leg that makes me unable to hold or carry anything in my left arm. And when I get a spasm in my right leg I usually need to sit down until the spasm stops. It would be great if I could get a service dog because I could hold on to it until the spasms stopped and I wouldn't need to sit on the floor whilst I'm out shopping. Can anyone tell me about any programs of service dogs that are in Scotland or near Scotland?. Thanks

    • @nic7012
      @nic7012 7 лет назад

      MegaNatasha13 I would first do research about service dogs in Scotland. I'm sure they allow them but it might be different than the US. I know that in the US you can train the dog on your own, but Scotland may require you to get a professional trainer train them. I hope this helped. I know you probably didn't get what you need from this, but I think it should at least help.

I've been looking into service dogs for a long time. Sadly, I do not have the money for a professionally trained one. I do own a regular, untrained dog though, and it helps a bit. Going out of the house alone is hard, so having a service dog would definitely be a nice comfort.

    I'm looking into a service dog because I have severe anxiety and get depressed easily (I have actually cut and left scars) that has led me to actually become Elective Mute (Only talking to a few people, if any)
    I rely on my parents to keep me together most of the time. I've also had mini Panic Attacks (generally in crouded places, it's to the point were I hate school and refuse to go to crouded places ,like the mall, alone) where I'll get really hot, vision blurrs, headaches, and I've fallen or lost balance (Jello Legs) in severe ones. I'm not diagnosed with Depression or Anxiety and take no medicine for it.
    Do you think this is a good reason to get a service dog? If so, what are some things the dog actually does for you? And what are some good breeds?
    I intend to get one in a few years (When I graduate Highschool) because my dad won't even let me get a bunny.

    • @JordanKaynMark
      @JordanKaynMark 7 лет назад

      Lilly does have some good points, though you do have to be diagnosed with mental conditions to be able to get a Psychiatric Service Dog. Also, do be careful on the breeds should you be getting one from a shelter. Those such as greyhounds do have hip problems (whether they are retired or didn't race), and the hip problems can be seen around age 7.
      Good luck on your journey, mate!

      I would get a service dog as emotional support animals are not there to make you feel better however a service dog can go get someone, sense a rise in heart rate and warn you to sit down and get calm, get you medicine or water or a phone to call someone for help, can help with keeping you from having the attack and can sit with you and help calm you down during an attack.

    I’ve been looking into getting a PSD. I have depression and severe anxiety, social anxiety and panic disorder. My anxiety has kept me basically home bound. I have panic attacks whenever I leave the house. I can’t attend school on a regular basis because of my anxiety. I’ve tried medications and LOTS of therapy but nothing seems to work. The dog I think could mainly help by alerting to panic/anxiety attacks, doing DPT and tactile stimulation during the attack, blocking people from crowding me in public, providing light mobility as I oftentimes get dizzy and nauseous during and after an attack, leading me to an exit, alerting to anxious ticks, etc. Does anyone think that a PSD would be helpful?
