Honestly I think the Gungan Army was my favorite from this year. Very satisfying to see an entire army come together in one video, especially one that unique.
Jay, for the forest base genestealers, maybe just add orange leaves to the bases to make them look like a fall themed forest, maybe that will do the trick without you having to completely redoing the bases
EoB is probably my favorite channel-find of the year. Completely juiced my amateur painting skills. My improvement due to Jay's videos has brought more enjoyment to painting minis than I have experienced in the 20-25 years since entering this hobby. Thanks, Jay!
Finished my bachelors and started this hobby to fill in my time. Got 43 models done since February and I enjoy looking at my models I first started. My painting of flesh was so bad, but my current model is 1000 times better. I enjoy seeing how far I’ve come within this year and will be curious to see how I evolve in 2023. Jay man, your channel has been a big joy for me and you give me inspiration for my projects. Keep up the content and thank you for an amazing year
*Everyone:* "My pile of shame just grows and grows." *Jay:* "This year I failed my goals by exceeding my own expectations and previous personal best performance."
This video has made me realise how many videos I have enjoyed this year, from the gungan army to the recent diorama one. Keep it up man! Looking forward to another year of content.
This is a cool video.. I just started the hobby and painted my first mini Feb 18th. And managed to paint solely aos army's. And painted around 830-850 minis.. I even won all the tournys I entered and even won a painting competition with one of my masterpiece paints. absolute blast of a hobby.. I can't believe it consumed me as much as it did. Anyways keep up the great work.. I really enjoy your content alot! Looking forward to more amazing and enjoyable videos!
I love seeing a pile of completion! I still don't have 500 painted minis in my collection, but hope to increase it by about 200 next year. Your videos are inspiring!
Hahaha mars attacks. Ack ack !! I love your passion for this hobby I have just started this past year. I have learned a lot about just enjoying the craft. Keep it up in the new year!
It’s taken me two years just to paint 250 models. My goal this year is paint all my Necrons, and Death Guard, should be 200 models. I think what you have done this year is awesome.
Impressive. I'm happy with my year at 17 models painted (might squeeze out a few more before the clock strikes 12). For anyone feeling bad looking at their own number compared to Jay's, try to remember that he is a professional (and potentially not human)
I started the hobby recently, and my favorite minis I've done so far are my Space Goblins from Starfinder. I haven't even started painting them, but I love them, and can't wait to get the colors I need for them!
I think you would like your forest bases on different models. They look really good! It’s really cool to see your evolution of painting. It’s fun to go back and look what you first painted and look at a recent paint job. Also his name is Galen Erso. Thanks for doing this video the end was really cool to watch. Thanks gents! Fantastic as always!!!
Really nice video! 🙂 The end of 2022 is close and that means it is a good time to look back. I wanted to paint one mini per day in 2022 and now I am on 623 minis at the end. That is so a huge number can‘t even believe it. This year was also full of my „firsts “ like my first bust, first 75mm mini, and first diorama. And now is a great time to look at 2023 and set my hobby goals. The first and hardest thing will be changing my mindset from „fast army painting to high standard“ to „take your time and paint for display standard“ 2023 will have the motto „less is more“.
In contrary to your feeling, although I'm looking at the zoomed in images, your daughters of Kaine are the best painted in a technical sense: the models presented before these needed some love on the gradient, and the sisters didn't get shade in the folds of the cloth. The DoK are beautiful; there may be a couple highlights to potentially tone down, but the transitions from light to dark all looked very very good.
What you did this year in 2022 trying different models and painting them is what I want to do in 2023 and than in 2024 I'll play some games. Thanks for the vid. Loved seeing these projects return after seeing the process all year round.
‘I really like these tufts, I don’t know where they came from’ me when I see a cool bit on one of my models, the moment I use those bits I forget where they came from
I painted probably 12 at a push. I hoped to get loads done but life got in the way. That's why yesterday I started a diary to track my progress with all things Warhammer. Be it painting, playing games or even just getting something undercoated or writing up a army plan. I want to be as active as I can next year.
I was so happy and proud to have hit my mark of 300 painted. And then I watch your video and see you outdid me by miles. And they look awesome! Supercool to see them all out on a table. Let's try and paint less models in 2023 (and fail 😁🤘)
Small correction on the Nords from Conquest: no Dwarves in those vikings! the Dweghom (Parabellum's post-dragon-revolution dwarves) are a separate faction. Loved the video, and I'm interested to see what next year brings in store from you!
Does that 532 figure include the 25 figures from the Leagues of Votann army box you painted and sold? If not, it's more like 557 you painted this year (holy smokes).
One thing I like to do, usually on models I plan to paint with mainly contrast, is a multi layer zenith highlight. Black from below, dark gray from 45° below, light gray from 90-45 from top, and white from directly above. It gives a bit more variation opposed to just black/white
Thanks for the video. I did something similar a few days ago, and I painted 96 models this year. My momentum fell apart after summer because of some family crises, but I have about 50 WIPs that I'm hoping to complete this winter.
I think you have improved so much I am thinking once I am in my house that I will start a youtube channel just to push my hobby skills any and all of them my drawing my painting my scratch building skills. I think it helps you so much.
Jay, painting minis in a darker tone is absolutely fine. I for one despise the overly bright and cartoonish style that we often see for example with Golden Demon entries. Models painted in a darker tone with a few popping highlights (think OSL for lenses, glowing weapons etc.) can be very visualy interesting. Whereas a bright paintjob will often look too busy for me. After all, if everything is painted bright to catch the eye, nothing will stand out and catch the eye.
Jay I love EOB and everything about your channel. I would love to see how your storage set up for your minis because that’s what I struggle with. Maybe a future video idea :D!?
I think my favoite of your painted models this year was the bust just perfect...Which I know that feeling of bringing something to life mostly with my pixel art as the books/games are nice too but they do bring it home that I did a thing then pixel art of and the 2D printable models and terrain for my game that to that was awesome...
Can I suggest orange instead of red for the highlighted thumbnail text? It's really hard to read the red text sometimes. Also, for the sisters 'noviciates?' in bright blue and magenta, some washes could probably fix them. I'd go for purple, and turquoise, so dull down the bases with black wash which will make it match the corsets, and dull down the pink with blue wash to make it royal purple. Maybe you could do a video on how to fix the colours? Just a thought :)
You always talk about the color choice on those sisters, but if you are a big fan of the goofy 90s costuming of shows like power rangers, there is a lot to appreciate there.
11:09 I don't know where the creators of Conquest come from, but here in France King Louis XIV graved on each of his canon "Ultima ratio regnum", latin for "Last argument of the kings" The idea was that a good king is supposed to rule with justice and make peace in his kingdom, so if someone disturbs the order, and that the king's arguments to appease the situation don't work, Louis XIV will show his canons as his last arguments, and in last resort use them. (Louis XIV reigned for 72 years [longer than Elizabeth II] and was at war during 46 of those years)
First off, amazing quality and quantity this year. I really don't know how you had the time, energy, and attention to do it. Second, when looking over your colour pallet I noticed red doesn't show up as a base colour very often; is there a reason for this?
i love how our minds actaully come up with the same drukhari color scheme down to the blue skin lololol only big difference is i had a emerald green on the armor instead of blue! the purple and green, kinda makes my kabalites look like like evangelion eva 1s or like the 90s cartoon spiderman green goblin or like halo one alien aesthetics with all the purple armor and glowing greens, you are a huge inspiration to keep painting, i remember watching the streams of when you were painting your hellions but seeing them now again reminded me "hey maybe i am pretty decent at this artist thing" because on my own i decided that color scheme and when i seen you in stream using the very same shades of purple i painted mine it was awesome moment like where i knew i did something cool because you just come up to the same outcome as i did and it was both the same color scheme on the same army except your a cool awesome hobbyist veteran pro and im not so much but man cheers awesome ill get some pictures to gether to fijnally post for the before and after i been watching for a long time since before models and memories one and that was when i very first started getting interested in warhammer again and to watch your videos along side me its like from that point myself as a artist and hobbyist ive come so far along in what i can accomplish with just paint and plastic and glue thanks alot hobby bros Nick and Jay!!
I managed to do 614 miniatures this year, and have painted at least four armies to completion. Kings of War ups my average by a lot, since you have loads of minis relative to their points cost, and both are really hordes armies. Also between starting votann, harlequins, and horus heresy, I've painted A LOT of troops this year, I hope to do some more interesting minis next year. I also need to get more out of my comfort zone and use more saturated colours, I started blood bowl and my first team ended up looking a bit washed out because I'm so used to using a desaturated palette with only my absolute brightest highlights being saturated.
Hey jay, amazing stuff! I wonder if you have any tutorials on how you paint your Templar! I notoriously have painted mine very grim dark, however, I like how you have a very healthy balance with your colors and the grim dark aesthetic!
Conquest = the last way for a ruler to settle a dispute, hence the last argument of Kings. Argument = whatever the specific dispute is about, Kings = rulers who are having a dispute. 😁
"The Last Argument of Kings" is "Do what I say or I will have you killed". Louis XIV had Ultima Ratio Regum cast onto his cannons. I'm sure those guys are referencing that in the name of their game.
I've been doing my very first Warhammer Age of Sigmar army, I've got fish, and it's been super lovely to paint while watching your videos! It feels like I'm painting with a friend, plus your basing videos saved me so much! I wanted to do splash-y ocean bases for the Deepkin and it was super helpful to see someone else do it and walk through it so effectively
Well, Jay, on the first Sisters in the video, remember a lot of painters are painting for photographs, those colors would work great on an infinite black background with high contrast overhead single point lighting. It's a cheap trick used by the "best" painters. Often the effect is less impressive than in hand.
The name “Last Argument of Kings” probably comes from one of King Louis XIV’s cannons which had inscribed on it “Ultima Ratio Regum” which I can assume made him feel quite big.
Honestly I think the Gungan Army was my favorite from this year. Very satisfying to see an entire army come together in one video, especially one that unique.

Can you show us or is there a video already, of how you go and organize all your miniatures around your place?
Finished my bachelors and started this hobby to fill in my time. Got 43 models done since February and I enjoy looking at my models I first started. 12:23 I'm the chaos knights guy... Jay says I should get a titan.... Justification intensifies.....
*Everyone:* "My pile of shame just grows and grows."
*Jay:* "This year I failed my goals by exceeding my own expectations and previous personal best performance."
This video has made me realise how many videos I have enjoyed this year, from the gungan army to the recent diorama one. Keep it up man! Looking forward to another year of content.
Thanks for another prolific year of painting, Eons!
So may tips, so many kits, superfluos video production!
I love how Jay failed his hobby goals by outdoing himself. Incredibly on-brand
Very on brand! He killed it this year
This is a cool video.. I just started the hobby and painted my first mini Feb 18th. And managed to paint solely aos army's. And painted around 830-850 minis.. Can't stop watching your videos I love them they make me hang in on the hobby, for real thank you
so been putting my painting on the shelf for a couple of months now, and have to say this video really made me hyped to paint again :D
Fantastic Conquest mini's. I super love the game, hope to see more from you as I love your painting!
Your output this year was insane.
I still come back to your old base tutorial playlists. What an excellent channel!
Hahaha mars attacks. Ack ack !! I love your passion for this hobby I have just started this past year. I have learned a lot about just enjoying the craft. Keep it up in the new year!

Whoo! Wyrmblade! Get those guys into the kill zone, THAT’S where you’ll fall in love with them!
Oh my flims are flammin rn! Thanks Jay!
Enjoyed the years videos. Many thanks!
I love how bright and colourful Jay's Black Templar are looking
ooooooooh My model count was 135 painted models this year, I never thought how much a painted till seeing your amazing haul of painted pretty

Please do more unboxing / building / painting of conquest. There are so few conquest videos online and your style is so good

The Conquest roman dude is sick.

Awesome work. Please keep doing this video every year, it’s great. 👍

Thanks for all the great content you put out Jay. I got into miniature painting just under a year ago and your videos have been a massive help 👍

I think those genstealers , with that base are totally fine ma man :) They look great
I think you have improved so much I am thinking once I am in my house that I will start a youtube channel just to push my hobby skills any and all of them my drawing my painting my scratch building skills. I think it helps you so much.
Just rewatched the Pile-o-shame video. Jay estimated 2 years to work through 300 models. Doesn't sound too bad now :)
Jay, painting minis in a darker tone is absolutely fine. I for one despise the overly bright and cartoonish style that we often see for example with Golden Demon entries. Everytime it zooms in on Jay's face, I read the chaos codex in the background as "Chads"
Those DoK are amazing.
Great video! This channel has been the find of the year for me on RUclips. Curious, did you count the models you did for the auction experiment?
I have a count for this video. Jay said "Really" 53 times.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Nice job. I started in Spring 2019. From that point I painted less minies than Jay in one year... :D
I loved those novitiates, their color is amazing
This was my first full year of painting with my total being 139. I'm proud of pulling myself out of my slump with my summer being really productive
Jay & Nick put out such good content, so palatable if that works in this scenario 😂
Can I suggest orange instead of red for the highlighted thumbnail text? It's really hard to read the red text sometimes.

I'm 48 models deep after starting with 40k about 4 months ago.
First time I've ever done anything like this.
i love how our minds actaully come up with the same drukhari color scheme down to the blue skin lololol only big difference is i had a emerald green on the armor instead of blue! the purple and green, kinda makes my kabalites look like like evangelion eva 1s or like the 90s cartoon spiderman green goblin or like halo one alien aesthetics with all the purple armor and glowing greens, you are a huge inspiration to keep painting, i remember watching the streams of when you were painting your hellions but seeing them now again reminded me "hey maybe i am pretty decent at this artist thing" because on my own i decided that color scheme and when i seen you in stream using the very same shades of purple i painted mine it was awesome moment like where i knew i did something cool because you just come up to the same outcome as i did and it was both the same color scheme on the same army except your a cool awesome hobbyist veteran pro and im not so much but man cheers awesome ill get some pictures to gether to fijnally post for the before and after i been watching for a long time since before models and memories one and that was when i very first started getting interested in warhammer again and to watch your videos along side me its like from that point myself as a artist and hobbyist ive come so far along in what i can accomplish with just paint and plastic and glue thanks alot hobby bros Nick and Jay!!
Completely COOL!!!! I made a purpuse to get 1 painted miniature by day, final count will be done Jan 1st and I'll se if I hit the goal or not 😅
I hope next year you can paint some adeptus titanicus. I think it would look pretty cool!
Still calling R&F games Rank & Flank :D Never change Jay never change...

You're painted mini numbers are insane, i just managed to paint over 30 minis this year JJAJAJAJ
Where are your videos on your Kroot and Stealth Suit Kill Teams? Those models look fantastic!
“My forest bases don’t look good” -EoB 2022
Meanwhile his malifaux forest bases 😮
rebasing the genesetalers might be a pretty nice idea for a video ;)
I haven't painted that many this year but I've started painting quite alot and built loads too so its not all bad.
Me: this paint job looks good.
Jay: paint job looks bad.
Truth? If I could paint half as good as Jay, I would love everything I painted more.
Conquest = the last way for a ruler to settle a dispute, hence the last argument of Kings. Argument = whatever the specific dispute is about, Kings = rulers who are having a dispute. 😁

When those sword brethren were painted? Love the scheme.

JAY airbrush the grey on heavy then lightly dry brush white, then slapchop
“I won’t be collecting an army because they are just so hard to paint” *Sobs in Admech*

HOLY CRAP that’s a lot
Most impressive.
Jay could totally make a video rebasing the Wyrmblades for a gallowdark setting.
Seeing so many legion minis is surprising! I love your content but it would be awesome if you did more swl content.
Yellow is never my minis color... Laughs in Custodes & Stormcast Eternals xD
I just started painting minis back in the summer and I’ve only managed to paint 3 and a half 🙃
That's a whole lot more than the 15 I (started) painting this year lol
I wish you would make battle reports, would love to see your painted models in action
Impressive!
8:50
Well, I know what you need to work on next year
Transfers
He knows how. Those were from a timed painting challenge, one was 2 minutes start to finish iirc
Does this total include the 'Squats' you painted and sold on Ebay?
Do you have a video going over those zombies?
Damn, i only painted 4 and few are still unfinished.
The name “Last Argument of Kings” probably comes from one of King Louis XIV’s cannons which had inscribed on it “Ultima Ratio Regum” which I can assume made him feel quite big.
Don't forget the Votan!
Base those martians! "A model is not done until it's BASED!" -Jay
