Bogotá is Colombia's beating heart, an engaging and vibrant capital cradled by chilly Andean peaks and steeped in sophisticated urban cool. The city's cultural epicenter is La Candelaria, the cobbled historic downtown to which most travelers gravitate. A fun fact:On April 9, 1948, candidate Jorge Eliecer Gaitán was assassinated by Juan Roa Sierra. This marked the country and caused a lot of violence (it was called El bogotazo)
