8:56 Something about that horn rubs me the wrong way because that doesn't sound stuck, there are bits of relief of the horn here and there, it's not continuous. To me it sounds like a warning, a "there's a problem and I can't fix it!" Maybe it's just me being paranoid and it's just the engineer fighting for control of the horn again or just a weird artifact that comes with a prolonged sounding like that. I don't want to be the only one that gets an off-putting vibe from that horn.
@@christinatweet6580 That would be the locomotive engineer. With some companies like Norfolk Southern, I believe they require conductors to eventually promote to locomotive engineer. The engineer would be the best job because compared to the conductor, they're hardly outside in the weather because they're the only ones qualified to operate the train. The conductor is the one communicating with the engineer when building a train, connecting air hoses, changing couplers, etc.
Job assignments such as yard crew, local runs, passenger assignments are mostly filled by bidding process based on seniority. Actual crew positions such as engineer, conductor, etc however must be filled by personnel who have been properly trained and qualified in those crafts.

The NS locomotive is probably headed to Altoona PA where NS has a big diesel shop. Not sure about the BNSF unit. Maybe BNSF is contracting out the repair to NS.
