Hello john it s true a better tactic being in competition it is true that choosing the best option to win points is the best in case you play well you are a great fishermain 💪💪👍🎣
Many thanks Tonton, it's all about trying to make good decisions and getting good section points without risking a complete blow out!
Hi Jon I do hope you get to see this message as I wanted to give a huge thank you for everything you put up on youtube. I am a single parent 24/7 carer for my fabulous boy but that does mean I have very limited time to get on the actual bank and so youtube fishing is a huge asset to me while I am at home. There are many fabulous content makers who are, like you, outstanding anglers and also the very highest production levels of content, however where you then further excel is that not only do you upload far more often than most/all others, but you are also so multi-disciplined in so many different wonderful types of fishing (That I also love) rather than just one single specialty, and also so many varies venue types from commercial to rivers to canals etc. Add to that the fact your commentary is the perfect balance of informative technical advice coupled with relaxed pleasant banter, it feels like I am sat next to you listening to a friend chat away. It truly is always a delight. So watching your videos is a huge huge outlet for me and they really are the best of the best on youtube. Thank you so so much for that and I hope you continue for many years to come. Best Wishes. Alex
Thanks Alex, that's really nice and kind of you to say and comments like this make it all worthwhile! Very best of luck with your fishing and parenting!
Another great river video Jon, Im slowly thinking of getting that feeder rod out
Go for it!
Water skier ⛷ 😆
What a twerp.
Great vid again. Shame so many people have their day spoiled by those dam Crocs.
Cheers 🍺👍🍌
It was a hot day and it brings them all out!
That looked like a workout. Thanks as ever for uploading.
It was!
Well done Jon you are certainly a all round angler.
Well I try my best. Jack of all trades, master of none! ;-)
Brilliant to watch Jon.Really enjoyed it.
Thanks Clive
Nice video again Jon. Really admire your skills shipping that long pole in and out so smooth!👍
Thanks Jos! 👍
Getting closer Jon, well done!
Cheers l&c
Well done Jon a great example of river fishing, pity about the Pike but there’s not a lot you can do about it but very frustrating.
Great video again thank you🎣🎣🎣
Thanks 👍
another great watch Jon well done on the fishing mate.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video Jon. Thanks for taking the time and effort to film your day. Shame about the pike, but at least it was better than day 1!
You bet
Always a pleasure to watch and learn.
Thanks Graham
Another great video Jon better than the first match, still shame about the pike hope they decide you can catch pike next year, good luck. 🎣🎣🎣🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟
Fingers crossed!
Well done mate, love watching your river matches, class act.thanks
Thanks 👍
Great video cheers
Thanks for the visit
Great vid Jon, I feel tired just watching that, you were very busy! You'll have to do a pike video and see how many you can catch.
Had a similar day on the Swale, stick float fishing. Managed to get the dace out by reeling them in quickly, but every fish that fought back was snaffled by a pike. At one point we could see 3 in the swim.
Yes I think there are definitely several in our swims at times. I've seen some great underwater footage showing groups of them.
Well presented video Jon, well done. Hopefully you'll pull a good peg on day 3.
Thanks Paul 👍
hi from expat in oz,left blighty 32 years ago nz for 28years before oz from south yorkshire brought up on the trent and witham, noticed your closed face reel looks and sounds like a abu 506,had mine for 40 years just packed up with a plastic bit wore out, got to turn to my 507 again 40 years old and hardley used never liked it but when things are desperate we do what we have to do, use longer wagglers to beat the downstream wind. good luck.
Thanks Roy it's a newer mk2 reel but they certainly don't sound as nice as an open face.
Another great video Jon well fished 👍
Thanks Robert
graet vid JON,i wished i got your caty skills.well done.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Jon. You need to pop down there with your spinning gear!
Maybe one day!
Well done Jon , lovely days fishing except for the Esox.
Absolutely!
I don't know who looked more scared, you or the roach!
Nice to see an old closed face reel. I don't even know where mine is now.
Thanks for watching
Another great watch and great performance Jon, think you might have got the scalesmans back up a wee bit 🙂
😂 All good banter... but he was definitely stingy!
Not as bad with pike for you on this one Jon. Another great video.
You must get through some bait in a match like that.
Only couple pints of casters and same of hemp, just nice and regular feeding.
class act Jon
Cheers JC
Can you guess what's behind me, I bet you can't.......... I thought f.. K me he's only got a pike behind him 😂😂😂😂 well done another top, top vid from a top top bloke 👍
😂😂😂 I have pike wallpaper now too!
Well done Jon. Looked better than a work out at the gym. 👍😉 notice you are using 506M how much line do you have on the spool and what dia please. Got a 506 new in box had a few years now must get it out and use 🤔
Thanks Rob, it's the MK2 and probably only 50m of 0.16mm Horizon Mono as was always advised not to overfill a closed face and I have no desire to chuck far with them!
Jon the true professional, giving a running commentary to camera and hold a conversation with bank walker. Great upload shame about the pike
Cheers Dave
Another great video Jon well fished, do you worry about all the sewage prombles going on with thames and catching when handling the fish.
It's something I try not to think about but with all the swimmers now in the Thames hopefully they will address the pollution issue. Thames Water seem to get away with a lot and turn a blind eye to a lot...
Great video once again Jon 👍 Why the change to 8 inch hook length ??
That's one bit I forgot to mention at the end, but it was definitely better as I think it helps the bait 'flap' a bit more in shallow and paced swims and lets the fish grab the hook bait positively a fraction longer before registering on the float compared to my normal 6in hooklengths. I could have gone 10-12 inch and that may have been good too, which is food for thought...
@@JonArthur Thanks John , makes sense 👍
well fished Jon, where did you get that reel an antique shop lol, i had one like that back in the late 80s i think it was a shakespeare the drag never seemed to work that well, nice video again though 👌
Cheers James
Great match mate. Think must be the red, hot summer we, had two years ago in lockdown made, pike spawn well or roach/ all fish, maybe, good times to come,
What's the cable, tie, on your bait dropper for
Cheers Nigel, the cable tie just helps the dropper open on silty bottoms
@@JonArthur cheers good tip
Another great video Jon, are you allowed to rake the swim before a match? I had to do it on our club match yesterday otherwise I would not been able to get my rig in the water through all the weed. It never worries me to do it as it stirs up all the bugs and bloodworm on the bottom. Keep em coming, learning a bit more every day.
Yes raking was allowed for this match although I just used an XL landing net and weed cutter. A lot of swims were raked by the working party but not mine.
“Does anyone make a decent catapult?”… very good question 😂
😂😂😂
Catapults are expensive for what they are, and commercially made for profit, with gliz & package bling .... Not necessarily because they're very good 😉.
Try making one or a few yourself, & experiment, using elastic bands that don't "SNAP" so powerful as silicon .... you'll be pleasantly surprised about the accuracy & grouping 😉
Well done pal
Looks like you're changing your nickname from end peg to pike magnet 🧲
pike and babe magnet! 😂😂😂
@@JonArthur 🤣🤣
Thanks Jon for another interesting fishing adventure, do pike count if you can land them??
Nope!
Thank Jon ,short a sweet, nope.lol
Hi john why not try a line with a flat float to wedge and try the bream 👍👍🎣🎣🎣😃😃🐟
Good luck catching a bream off that peg in those conditions ha ha, but seriously that's always an option to 'lig on' for bigger fish, but I came 4th out of 24 with my busy catch-all approach so spending time after big fish was always a gamble and would have cost me a lot of fish, plus there is always a chance of hooking a big fish while you fish the float for everything, so it's a safe way to amass a net of fish and still have a chance of a bonus if they're about.
Pike again Jon …… not good but awesome vlog as usual Jon
Glad you enjoyed it
Heck Jon, that was a workout no need to visit a gym. Can't believe the number of pike over the two days, noticed yesterday you appeared to be using the MTX 3 but the MTX 4 today any reason for the change?
No reason really but I use my MTX4 if Im definitely fishing 14-16m
What is the speed limit for the boats because it look as if they were over the limit and I hope something is said about it to the Thames Authority.
Not that fast I would say!
Ever landed a pike in a match like this? If you have/did, would it count? Or is it considered caught on live bait, if it takes a fish that's on your hook?
I have caught them like this but they don't count in most modern matches so little point playing them and they must be returned safely if you do.
@@JonArthur Alright. Thanks! Enjoying your videos and learning a lot!
Do pike count in a match??????
Not in most matches these days
Gosh Jon! You really should do your homework, and arrive on the bank with a definite game plan to stick to! .... not a multitude of different bait, and more rigs (rods & pole tops) than my local tackle shop has for sale! 😉 ❤
Couldn't disagree more I'm afraid, but you do like to be controversial so I'll let you off, ha ha. It is foolish to turn up thinking you know what you're going to do before even seeing your peg. Right up to the whistle a good angler will be prepared to make changes and fish it according to what's happening in front of you. I would never ever just set up one or two methods/rigs and blindly stick to them, but each to their own...
@@JonArthur The mega problem is Jon = if you're not confident & savvy about what to do for the best, you'll waste time buggering about with all the various baits on your big side tray. . and the various rigs, top 3, and rods lined up waiting.... if you're not knacked lugging them about to your peg already 😊 And very confused & uncertain with no game plan 😂 ❤
@@JonArthur I'm pulling your leg Jon 😂 Anyway, you fished matches at Bascote??? Did you ever draw any of the 3 pegs between the bridge & lock, about 800 metres from the car parking road bridge??
It was game over if any decent angler drew in that area. ... I was always the bridesmaid 😨 ❤ lol
Is that a 501abu
No its a 506 Mk2 I think
Ya water-skier has fell off mate 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Had to be said! 🤣🤣🤣
Piike match on the Sunday before with the EA or local fish farm to take them away?
Aren't the Thames boaters regulated and licenced by the EA? Take a photo and report them?
Anyhoo.....another good episode and glad your hair is growing back after day 1 at Abingdon.
Thanks.
Thanks Steve
Never go on the pole straight away when you're trying to fathom your peg out! .... the pole is efficient when you've chosen correctly. But, it's not the end & "be" all. ... even though it allows unskilled numpties to compete, instead of hanging up in trees 😨
There really is no filter with you is there Phil, ha ha! Best back seat fishermen I know 😂
have a pike match
We'd be plagued by roach ha ha
