  • Project Valhalla is a Windows 11 firmware package made for the Odin and the Odin Pro handhelds. This firmware allows you to install Windows 11 on a Snapdragon 845 processor. In this video, we look at emulation performance on Windows 11 with the Odin Pro, as well as go over the installation process.

Every sentence sounds exactly the same, with a high-pitched monotone from the beginning until almost the end, at which point the pitch drops an octave. This is the pattern for every sentence regardless of the subject matter. It almost sounds like text to speech AI and it can make listening to the video hard work to the point where I often take a break after a video or two and watch something else. If you could vary the tone a little in order to sound less artificial, it would make a big difference. Thanks.

    Wonder if Steam OS will be able to run on this device whenever that gets released. Would be another great option imo.

    • @ekinteko
      @ekinteko 2 года назад +4

      It could, but note that SteamOS was originally built for TV Box/Console using an Intel processor (x86 architecture). The latest SteamOS version which runs on the Valve SteamDeck is using an AMD APU (also x86).
      So it is possible (we have Windows 11 running on a QSD 845+), but I wouldn't hold my breath for an ARM port. If anything, you can boot the AYN Odin Pro into Windows 11, run the Steam Executible, and put it into Big Screen Mode with the hack to make it look like a VSD.

      You know valve has an Arm version of Steam OS in the works. AMD has already acknowledged they’re willing to make Arm chips, it would definitely allow steam to completely rid itself of the bulk of windows, and the battery efficiency would be great for the Steam Deck. My guess is that more games need to natively support Arm

      AMD actually has already made ARM chips in the past. But that division is long gone.
      As for an ARM port of SteamOS, remember even when that comes out it won't work on the AYN Odin Pro until someone ports it over properly which takes some time. But I doubt ARM-SteamOS is actively being worked on now. Remember that Steam for ChromeOS which has been announced ages ago also only supports x86 Chromebooks. In short, do not wait for it you will be disappointed.

    • @xpeterson
      @xpeterson 2 года назад

      @@ekinteko Not sure what division that was, but AMD recently stated, with the whole apple moving away from intel, that they are ready to produce Arm chips if any customer has the demand.
      Im sure it has been tried in the past. Steam OS was tried in the past with the Steam machines. I imagine it had a lot of similar issues, namely very few games would work. That doesn’t mean it wont work in the future and it certainly doesn’t mean valve doesn’t have a team working out the best possible version for an Arm Steam OS if it ever needed it. Heck, how long did it take before steam came out on the M1 chips?

    • @ekinteko
      @ekinteko 2 года назад +1

      @@xpeterson
      When the first 64bit Server chips was released to license holders from ARM, it was AMD who was the first to develop and sell it. I don't know if anyone bought any of those old 32nm (?) Cortex-A57 server chips from AMD which was better than their ageing Bulldozer Architecture at the time. Anyways, that division was eventually terminated.
      Steam doesn't have an ARM build for Apple M1. The sandbox runs in Rosetta2 translation through Apples API. There's not many games through Steam that ran on macOS, but the majority of them also run within this hybrid-translation layer. Steam did update their sandbox, so that any games which already had an ARM build, would be able to run out of their sandbox like a native Mac App.
      Again, do not wait for ARM and Steam. It is more accurate to say it won't happen, since the majority of games on that platform were coded for x86. Even a relatively simple port from Windows to Linux is showing lots of issues. That a major port from x86 to ARM is going to be simply too much.
