Hi Dave - nice demo, I have an IBG J200 so quite interested (and don't have 6K for a Guild 512!) Sounds good, nice and bright, balanced sounding, and has good articulation. Nice to hear the playability is good as well. PS - loved the Wilburys stuff.
Wow, great looking guitar! Several yrs ago Gibson itself produced 12-string H-bird as a season product, and it was terribly expensive! And I must mention all those japanese lawsuit-copies in the sixties and seventies. In your video your H-bird seemed very accurately toned. I would recommend, that tuning down one whole step helps preventing top from warping. And: thus you can play normally with capo on second fret. It works!!!
I have the Ibanez J200 copy 12 string. Built around 1978. Sounds and plays great, but these Epiphone Humdingers 12 string guitars look and sound sweet.
I just bought a 6 string version and it basically had the same minor issues, nut needs attention, a few screws in the tuners were stripped & caused them to be loose and the under saddle fishman pu sounds terrible so that will removed & replaced w a K&K pure mini. But other than that it's a well built pretty guitar. Nice review! Cheers...
what the say about 12 strings is that half the time is pent tuning it and the other half is playing out of tune. Also, the sound you hear is only a good as the speaker from which you are listening from. There’s nothing wrong with the Epiphone. Good review.
It's on my bucket list I missed the first wave I'm waiting for a back order to come in, about your squeaky strings you could try a little nut sauce but a lot of people tune down half a step with 12 strings because of the tension especially if you like a heavier gauge string
laurel is a cheap wood hard to work with - not good to glue and a smooth wood so not good for Fretboards but the thing is it´s good for the price and the guitar ya play looks exterme good sounds not bad it sounds really good in your video for a professionell Aritst there are better modells on the market ( for shure they can make their Art with it ) but i think for fun the guitar is really cool well if you ´ve got 4000 bucks ya can afford a better quality or ya find a luthier that builds one for ya with an ebony Fretboard ,ebony Saddle , Bone Nut and Saddle and Bridgepins but the thing is what is that good for if ya playing for Hobby or in a Stadion for thousands of People
@@DaveYeats I wish I could get one of those.... lol I mean I can but I don't want to spend that kind of money on a 12 that I won't use as much lol They sold out of them on sweetwater a day before I went to get the hummingbird so now I'm looking at the Guild Jumbo 12 with rosewood. I also want a new Electric so I'm thinking of maybe a Les Paul Tribute Gibson. So I have no idea what to do now lol But congratulations man!!! That is seriously awesome!! Incredible guitars. I think that's what David Gilmour played!!
@@DaveYeats is the action pretty good right out of the box, because I like my guitars to be low action, and something that’s fairly easy to make bar chords even if it’s a 12 string guitar, just kind of curious because I try to buy one, and they’re backed order I guess the very popular. I am visually impaired blind, that’s why I’m trying to get a lot of information, well as much information I can get on the guitar. Thank you for your response
@@DaveYeats and usually with 12 string guitars, they do not stay in tune for a long time, does this guitar hold tuning well for a long time? That’s important for me, I have a Taylor 524CE, Taylor guitars usually hold up toning pretty well, other action is low easy to make barcodes, I know that a 12 string guitar, usually, or most of them don’t stay in tune for a long time. I went to my local guitar Center, and they did not have one for me to try it out. That’s why my questions to you are so much. But thanks anyway
One of the main drawbacks for me with Squier and Epiphone instruments is the use of Indian laurel for the fretboard. In my opinion, the poop-brown color of this wood is cheap looking and detracts from the overall quality of the instrument. Personally, I would prefer to pay a little more for a rosewood fretboard. It seems to me that Squier and Epiphone use this wood as a way to incentivize buyers to opt for more expensive Fender and Gibson models. If you own an instrument with an Indian laurel fretboard and want to improve its feel and appearance, I have a tip to share that worked for me. The wood is very receptive to lemon oil, which helps to deepen its color and give it a more premium look. I found that applying a generous amount of lemon oil (more than half bottle) over a period of months significantly improved the appearance and texture of my Indian laurel fretboard, making it look more like high-quality rosewood.
Never played a 12 string before. Played this and a few others today. This one was easily my favorite.
A very chilled, balanced, open-minded review from a very sweet guy. I’m super after a hummingbird myself, and a 12 string really peaks my interest.
Great review Dave. No bull, straight forward and honest. Don't get many of these on RUclips. Thanks
I've got one of these and its the best sounding 12 string I've ever owned.
How much did it cost you?

It won’t hold up to a Martin!

I own an Epiphone DR 212 12 String and Love it.
I bought the Guild 1512E. Solid rosewood back n sides. Just warmer but the Epi was my second choice.
Lovely playing brother and I love the song choices !!
Just what I was looking for, thank you for posting. Honest review w/o (over) processed audio.
sounds awesome especially for the cost

Absolutely tuning down will prevent the bridge from pulling up or pulling a belly into the top, good advice.
Thank you for a very good review. Enjoyed that little bit of the " forbidden song to play in a guitar store" at the end !
Very interesting review, all questions I had were answered. The kind of review that makes you want to buy it! Thanks
Great review, thank you!

You sold me. No way to play one in Dubai, so I just ordered one from Germany. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

Turn the lights down so I can see the guitar fingerboard
Any updates on owning this guitar? Changes? Things you wish were better? Any issues? I"m getting ready to pull the trigger on one hopefully soon.
Ended up upgrading to a Martin HD12-28. :)

Any guitar under $2000 expect to dial the nut in.
Good Review
Great review. I knew the nut would be an issue! Being playable is a deal-breaker!...did you deliberately not play HC and WYWH?
Deliberately not played. I definitely played them off camera. :)
You forgot to mention the price, in 2020 when you bought it how much did it cost you?
It was $850 new, but I used a 15% off deal at a large online music retailer for an additional discount.

Plastic.
