I agree, the UA "feels" more like the one in the cartoon, while the NECA one is probably technically more accurate. I do wish the color of the UA van was mire accurate though. Its too deep of a yellow.
As an owner of both vehicle i was surprised on how accurate you have reviewed this down to how close they are and how UA edging the Neca Van by a tiny bit… great job
I have the UA van and the Neca one on order. I will probably keep booth and use the Neca one as just a display and the UA one for when I want to play and mess around with a van. Fantastic comparison video and I can't wait to see how the Super 7 turns out.
I have the NECA version on the way. I love the color and over all look of the NECA van better but it looks so small compared to the UA version. Having been spoiled with the Thundertank, the NECA Turtle Van looks dinky. I still love it and am glad to have it but UA killed it with the size. Thanks for the review.
As someone who collects almost exclusively 3rd Party Transformers it is no surprise that the non-official van is so good. This was a great comparison and if I were buying one I think I'd grab the Underground Arsenal one for sure. It's size is so much better. Be interesting to see another comparison when Super 7's van comes out as so far that one looks amazing too. Bottom line, if you are a TMNT fan, what a time to be alive lol.
I would have gone with the UA version but it had sold out already, so when NECA dropped their preorder, it was a no brainer for me. Honestly, I like the way the NECA one came out, matches closely to how the van looked in the TMNT Arcade game!
As someone who bought both, I can say that you cannot go wrong, one way or the other. For my money, I’ll lean towards NECA, but this is in no way a detractor from the UA version. Keep up the great work!
I gotta agree with you there on each category. I didn't get the Neca van because the original design was ugly and then they waited until after the fact with the preorder window way past closed to fix it. Either way I had a lot of fun with my UA van even with the lack of paint and light up tail lights. It's also pretty sturdy and definitely draws attention on the shelf too.
After getting both of these I agree the UA is the better one. Neca's maybe looks better but between it having their typical brittle plastic and questionable design decisions like the door hinges its no contest for me, the UA one feels much more like a real toy, something you could actually give a kid and not get back in a pile of pieces; I know these are adult collectibles but I don't enjoy being afraid to handle parts of a toy. I expect the S7 one may beat it out as the thundertank is pretty rugged, but for now the UA is my favorite of the two.
Still waiting on my NECA van to ship, but I've got the UA van and I really like it. Super7 kind of priced me out on theirs...I got the Thundertank previously, but I just can't do too many things at that high of a price range. Going to be sticking to NECA for my primary TMNT fix.
I'm having difficulty finding an online store that has this van. Would you happen to know where to get it? Impossibly a cheaper price, but a good price at the same time?
I totally agree! I definitely like the Underground Arsenal van better! My UA van feels more sturdy, it fits both Neca & Super7 figures, and I like the shape of the UA van better. The UA van is so sturdy I let me 6 year son play with it all the time with his Neca TMNT figures. To me the only thing the Underground Arsenal van is lacking is paint, which I really want to try doing myself.
Nice to see these side by side. Turtles is not my jam -- but some of my Turtles-fan friends/fam who have no idea toy tube is a thing have been asking about the difference.
There are at least two versions by Playmates. Maybe throw in a couple of LEGO and Mega Bloks versions. There's probably a Matchbox/Hot Wheels version too. Throw them all together and have a big competition.
I got both. Preordered NECA the day it went live, but had the UA for over a year sooner than the NECA. I did the panel lining on my UA. I didn’t need both, so I just put up my NECA for sale. Hate to see it, but 3rd Party rules in the adult collectible/toy market.
I my opinion. Having both. I lean towards the NECA. I’m a sucker for accuracy. And even though UA is more sturdy n I like the sculpture. I still choose NECA. The former does feel weaker in terms of hinges parts etc. But at the end of the day. Its a collectible and not a toy. I don’t need to be opening, moving, taking off parts every day. I put it in display they way I want to and that’s it. It won’t break because I do not play with it like a kid. But excellent video and review.
Personally I prefer the underground arsenal van. I sold it a few months ago thinking I don’t have room for 2 vans. If I still had it I’d sell the neca van. To me it’s no contest that underground arsenal van is a thousand times better.
I agree 99% w/ u, I feel like the accessories category shouldve been a tie since they do both have the battle wall & gunner seat. The only xtra the NECA van has is the tech wall which honestly isnt needed.
Where are you storing all these doubles and extra spare toys Jay, your toyroom must be bursting at the seams?. Do you keep all these or flip the ones you dont want after.
I think the UA version is better also. You made a lot of great points. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving :) I think Super7 will be the King at the end.
I have to agree after getting the neca in hand the UA is the better buy its more of a playset and definitely better after adding paint applications and panel lining which I assumed that my neca would have I just hope ramen or toy hax makes upgrading accessories for UA van decals even a ejection plate.
Side by side I can certainly see that the arsenal 3rd party looks more compatible for Neca and Super 7 Ultimates turtles man... I'm still waiting on the mail to get my Party wagon from NECA but I can see that the Arsenal is a great investment to have too...😃✌️
Maybe I'm a little weird. I'd get all version and have multiple displays and dioramas. Then again costs and space are major factors. Who knows what I would actually do.
I only have the Neca one, and I gotta say I am disappointed. It feels a bit cheap, especially with hinges and the wheels. And as you said, it's just a bit too small, not by a lot, but still not as big as it should be. The cannons should be able to angle down more as well. So I'm not surprised by your verdict on them. All points that I pretty much agree with. But that said, the Underground Arsenal one is too big for the Neca figures... for Super7 it might be fine though. The Neca van was, for sure, a disappointment. It could have and should have been much better. In my opinion after getting it, the Neca one feels more like it should have cost more like $100-150. Instead of $250.
Hey bro I saw the comparative from The Triple C Collective 3 days ago. As I mentioned to the triple c comparative. Neca is 100% accurate to the cartoon but UA is better quality. After seeing the comparison between the two. UA only needs a repainting and it will be perfect much better than NECA VAN. 10 months ago I bought the UA for $166.99 total price brand new. Now I just have to wait for the SUPER7 that I have in pre-order.
Fricking wild that a 3rd party toy has less fragile plastic then an "official" release but that's NECA for you. TBF though Neca's Universal Monsters feel pretty solid and Drac and Frank have survived a couple of shelf dives unscathed. So maybe Neca has finally figured out how to use decent plastic idk. Still paranoid to touch them too much given Neca's notorious reputation.
I like the front end of the UA a bit more as it’s how I remember it looking. Also like how they did the Laser canon and roof guns. But I think it’s way too big for the toon turtles regardless of any animation it seems better for s7 scale but being a toon van I don’t want it for that. So it serves no place in my collection at this point. If it was about the same size as the NECA van I’d probably be letting the NECA can go.
I wouldn't be afraid to let my kids play with the UA one. It seems more durable. The only thing I'm worried would snap would be the spoiler but I can take it off.
Not at all Surprised that GDL picked the UA over the Neca. He never really was invested in the toon I.P as much as he was with the overall nostalgic element the playmates toys brought him. Which is why he love(d) super7 offerings over Necas. UA just looks more like a toy then a collectible. To me Neca just makes more sense.
I think the sculpt goes to Neca. You already said that the canons are not show accurate. I think the scale of the UA is oversize for the Neca cartoon figs. I think the UA made it bigger to accomodate the other versions of the turtles like super7 or the larger scale Neca movie figs
The scale of the neca one looks more accurate. A typical vehicle is 7-8’Wx16’-18’L. The UA one looks like it’s 8’-10’ wide and over 20’ long which would make it larger than a semi. 😂
I like the NECA look much better. I’d actually give price to NECA because they actually are paying a high licensing fee and it’s not much more expensive than the UA.
Just my personal opinion but the Neca Van was more fun when paired with Toon Turtles and Underground was more fun with Super7 Turtles. I think the neca van would have been perfect if the front was just a touch curved, not even as much as underground arsenal but just some...
I got the UA one during November of last year from gundamit for $165 & I had $17 in points & no tax. From announcement to delivery was super fast ,compared to Neca & 7. I’m still waiting 🤦🏻… now I’m no longer interested & havee no space.
from my position as someone who owns neither, i have to give the win to UA. At a glance, the beautiful yellow is much more enjoyable and attention grabbing. Cost is less even aftermarket. As far as “accuracy”…. it is based on a cartoon any given episode the van could be different. i really want to see the S7 and see what they’ve done to make it different and or better. Great work JG!
UA's is a little too wide for my taste and that color is just too off. Having said that it is a lot of fun and sturdier for sure. I can't believe Neca doesn't have a fold up gun seat especially after UA came out first.
Listen, I'm a collector too, but $250 for either of these? Seriously? For a plastic box on wheels with some moving parts? That's just 100 off from like, a Nintendo Switch. Think about that for a second. What are we really paying for? I understand there are development and production costs, and these won't be as mass-produced, but how different are these to the original playsets in terms of scale and functionality? Way overpriced IMO.
As soon as NECA unveiled theirs, I didn't like it & I felt the price wasn't that great. UA's looked better. Hope they do a reissue with a lighter yellow paintjob.
I don't trust NECA quality to this day. I have been burned by them a few times. Yes everything looks good for the most part but their stuff breaks ALOT! My kids beat the piss out of their He-Man figures and they last forever. My NECA figure falls down when a breeze touches it and the arm breaks off.
Seriously, Neca wins in every category. The paint job and sculpt on the UA is atrocious Even in the price category Neca had the better retail price. Secondary market value shouldn't count if you failed to preorder it at retail price. But hey, for those who spent $300 on the UA, I'm sure the UA van is "better" than the obviously more cartoon accurate Neca van.
In fairness the UA doesn't really have a paint job, for me Cost will always encompass original and secondary market. Because so many collectors purchase on the secondary market. To me I think its a toss up, but totally understand if you disagree.
First LOL @ "cartoon accurate" Nothing accurate nor consistent about the 80's TMNT cartoon. Second, I own both Vans and myself do admit I overall prefer the NECA Van's Sculpt and Paint App's but the UA isn't exactly bad either. The slight Curvature on the UA's front looks better to me than the flat front NECA. Also, the UA wasn't made specifically for NECA figs as the NECA Van is so it's larger to accommodate others Figs. I feel in some way's it's superior in design as well. The NECA Van feels very fragile in hand. The UA Van feels very sturdy. If I could only keep one yeah it'd be the NECA but still, the UA is far from atrocious.
I agree, the UA "feels" more like the one in the cartoon, while the NECA one is probably technically more accurate. I do wish the color of the UA van was mire accurate though. Its too deep of a yellow.
I agree about the yellow
As an owner of both vehicle i was surprised on how accurate you have reviewed this down to how close they are and how UA edging the Neca Van by a tiny bit… great job
Thank you so much!
UA all the way. Better priced, better quality, better sculpt.
Yeah after owning it for over a year, I'm still shocked by how great it turned out!
Less accurate.
UA is my top number 1 favorite Turtle Van.. Neca stands 2nd place.. But i''ll get both.
Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth! You are 100% right on for me.
I have the UA van and the Neca one on order. I will probably keep booth and use the Neca one as just a display and the UA one for when I want to play and mess around with a van. Fantastic comparison video and I can't wait to see how the Super 7 turns out.
Yeah, im really curious how the S7 one turns out!
I'm so glad you did this, while I passed on the UA Van (mainly due to space). I wanted to see this comparison.
Bigger isn't always better.. neca takes up less space and is more accurate to the cartoon shoe. That's good enough for me.
@@JediPUNK85 Agreed. I appreciate the NECA van more and more. It just looks so cool. Space really is the ultimate enemy of every collector 😅
As someone who collects almost exclusively 3rd Party Transformers it is no surprise that the non-official van is so good. This was a great comparison and if I were buying one I think I'd grab the Underground Arsenal one for sure. It's size is so much better. I gotta agree with you there on each category. Either way I had a lot of fun with my UA van even with the lack of paint and light up tail lights. It's also pretty sturdy and definitely draws attention on the shelf too.
Yeah that was a bummer they fixed that after the order window was closed, I didn't like the hump either.
@GeekDadLife absolutely!
Yeah, I felt like I had to baby the Neca one, which is no fun
Still waiting on my NECA van to ship, but I've got the UA van and I really like it. Super7 kind of priced me out on theirs...I got the Thundertank previously, but I just can't do too many things at that high of a price range. Going to be sticking to NECA for my primary TMNT fix.

New turtle Van. Look good okay love Dwight Jr 👍👍
I totally agree! I definitely like the Underground Arsenal van better!

Agreed quip!
Nice to see these side by side. Turtles is not my jam -- but some of my Turtles-fan friends/fam who have no idea toy tube is a thing have been asking about the difference.
Completely agree. The UA feels better to handle, the type of plastic is more resilient and it is a lot more fun than NECAs.
FINALLY! Someone's comparing the Underground Arsenal Van to the N.E.C.A. Turtle Van. Who will win the Turtle Van Wars. We're waiting Super 7...
Yeah we wont truly know till we have that one!
The Triple C Collective beat 'em to it 5 days ago with the comparison review; but this is definitely the second video showing off the two.
There are at least two versions by Playmates. Maybe throw in a couple of LEGO and Mega Bloks versions. There's probably a Matchbox/Hot Wheels version too.
Throw them all together and have a big competition.
I wish I have a neca Turtle Van to add my collections and it's pretty.
Also, what is the absolute correct title for this turtle Van? Because I keep hearing it being said so many different ways?
Great comparison. I prefer the NECA, but with the high aftermarket I sold mine in order to buy Mondo Panthor.
I got both. Preordered NECA the day it went live, but had the UA for over a year sooner than the NECA. I did the panel lining on my UA. I didn’t need both, so I just put up my NECA for sale. Hate to see it, but 3rd Party rules in the adult collectible/toy market.
is the Neca van still obtainable? Hard to find anywhere
I my opinion. Having both. I lean towards the NECA. I’m a sucker for accuracy. And even though UA is more sturdy n I like the sculpture. I still choose NECA. Thanks for the comparison Nerdy Father Existence

2:49 that UA Van from Canada was sold to me!! 😂 It’s Brand New, and I got it for $300 shipped.
I think you’re right. The underground arsenal one just seems a bit better.
I give my vote to the actual turtle van over the knockoff
I think thats a completely fair take
Ecto-1 changes shape dramatically in the cartoon as well, it's like a character in itself. (Not that it wasn't already)
Best review ever 🙌🏼
I agree 99% w/ u, I feel like the accessories category shouldve been a tie since they do both have the battle wall & gunner seat. The only xtra the NECA van has is the tech wall which honestly isnt needed.
Third party for the win!!
Agreed Ken!
I enjoyed your comparison, but the volume fluctuations from whether you are closer to or farther away from your microphone are a little distracting.

Yep UA capture the perfect mix Toon vs Playmates! UA should do a proper Batmobile
Yeah would love to see them tackle more vehicles
Side by side I can certainly see that the arsenal 3rd party looks more compatible for Neca and Super 7 Ultimates turtles man... I'm still waiting on the mail to get my Party wagon from NECA but I can see that the Arsenal is a great investment to have too...😃✌️
I think they're both great, I just perfer the UA one
Why didn't you include rolling as part of the articulation?
Making sure the wheels roll is probably the number one thing anyone would do.

The Neca van was, for sure, a disappointment. It could have and should have been much better. In my opinion after getting it, the Neca one feels more like it should have cost more like $100-150. Instead of $250.
I think Playmates is also re-releasing the original version again.

Yeah people got some great deals as they closed out the UA one!
Fricking wild that a 3rd party toy has less fragile plastic then an "official" release but that's NECA for you.

Wish I had gotten underground arsenal now
I think they're both so close, you can't go wrong either way.
True, I like the NECA one a lot, wish I had gotten both I guess. I’m getting both NECA sewer later and the ultimate ramen one
I DEFINANTLY AGREE ALL OF THE NECA FIGURES I HAVE SEEM FRAGILE ESPECIALY THEIR WEAPONS
The UA gunner cannon also telescopes 💪
Underground Arsenal def. Its much bigger and I think it scales with all sizes of turtles.
I wouldn't be afraid to let my kids play with the UA one. It seems more durable. The only thing I'm worried would snap would be the spoiler but I can take it off.
It's def more durable! I've let my kids play with it, and would not let them play with the NECA one.
Super 7 all day baby
Not at all Surprised that GDL picked the UA over the Neca. He never really was invested in the toon I.P as much as he was with the overall nostalgic element the playmates toys brought him. Which is why he love(d) super7 offerings over Necas. UA just looks more like a toy then a collectible.

💯

Well those big cargo vans are much larger than a typical vehicle lol
I like the NECA look much better. I’d actually give price to NECA because they actually are paying a high licensing fee and it’s not much more expensive than the UA.
How on Earth did you not compare how well they rolled?
Anything with wheels has to be rolled! That's, like, a law or something.
Just my personal opinion but the Neca Van was more fun when paired with Toon Turtles and Underground was more fun with Super7 Turtles. I think the neca van would have been perfect if the front was just a touch curved, not even as much as underground arsenal but just some...
I can't believe Neca did something that looks like a botched custom on a playmates Party Wagon...
I got the UA one during November of last year from gundamit for $165 & I had $17 in points & no tax. From announcement to delivery was super fast ,compared to Neca & 7. I’m still waiting 🤦🏻… now I’m no longer interested & havee no space.
I think it mostly is the front being square and not curved like the UA. ☹️
Yeah the flat front is a bummer
The UA version looks a lot bigger.
I’m gonna choose Neca van all day. UA is too big for my taste.
from my position as someone who owns neither, i have to give the win to UA.
Yeah I'm really curious to see how the S7 turns out!
UA is too big for me. It works with larger scale which is not what NECA is making their van for. UA looks good. But it’s not NECA. I collect NECA.
Yeah if you’re NECA only it def makes sense to stick with NECA
I've broken NECA figures before just by trying to pose them.
I remember when toy vehicles used to be only $10-20, before greedy toy millionaire company fundings ranging $350+ became a thing.
UA's is a little too wide for my taste and that color is just too off. Having said that it is a lot of fun and sturdier for sure. I can't believe Neca doesn't have a fold up gun seat especially after UA came out first.
i dont have enough money so i'll just stick with playmates reissue
Super7 knock it outta the park with Neca coming in second
Super7 pricing kills me because they think everyone is a millionaire
Listen, I'm a collector too, but $250 for either of these? Seriously? For a plastic box on wheels with some moving parts? That's just 100 off from like, a Nintendo Switch. Think about that for a second. What are we really paying for? I understand there are development and production costs, and these won't be as mass-produced, but how different are these to the original playsets in terms of scale and functionality?
Way overpriced IMO.
Wow, $400 for piece of plastic with wheels? 🤔 Will it take you to work? Because a $100-200 bike would...
Big size difference
The UA always looked bad to me. It's basically "too fat" looking in every respect. NECA just did a better job.
Side by side it looks like a bus.
As soon as NECA unveiled theirs, I didn't like it & I felt the price wasn't that great. UA's looked better. Hope they do a reissue with a lighter yellow paintjob.
Yeah a lighter yellow would be a nice touch
Screw your tally which one is the best Neca easy
Dude your biased because you didnt get one, an you want ppl to think you picked the right one
Your omega supreme hands are swapped
I don't trust NECA quality to this day. I have been burned by them a few times. Yes everything looks good for the most part but their stuff breaks ALOT! My kids beat the piss out of their He-Man figures and they last forever. My NECA figure falls down when a breeze touches it and the arm breaks off.

UA>>>Neca
Not sorry 🤷🏻♂️
