Inga Simning breaks Guinness World Record for Most Pull Ups in One Minute (female)

  • June 21, 2022. Thirty nine of the 42 attempted pull ups were counted for this Guinness record, beating the previous record by 3. In this video, Inga also attempted to create a new Guinness Record for "Most Consecutive Pull Ups" by completing another 7 pull ups after the one-minute timer, for a total of 49 consecutive pull ups, however this attempt was unfortunately disqualified due to the three pull ups not fully clearing the bar making the whole set no longer "continouous".

      Thank you so much for your kind comment. Sounds like you've got a great start. There aren't a lot of women out there who can do 9 pull ups. If you don't own a doorframe bar, I recommend buying one. I found that I increased my number the fastest by doing a single max set of pull ups every day. And by max set, I mean until failure. Every single day. And also, focus on fast, explosive pull ups (but don't fling your bar off your doorframe!). Might not be best for form, but it teaches your muscles to power you up quickly with less effort. Best of luck to you!!!

That was the current MEN'S record at the time of my attempt (it was since then been doubled!!!). But there was no (and still is no) women's record. When I initially applied, they accepted my application setting the goal number as 45 consecutive pull ups. I tried to explain this to them but they are very difficult to communicate with and said they wouldn't accept anything less than 300. That number is so far out of my reach!!! So I've given up. Guinness criteria are that you cannot flex at the hips or have more than a small bend at the knees. Your body should remain as straight as possible throughout. They would certainly not allow full on kipping. I do get into a rhythm in the middle portion of my set where I hyperextend my shoulders and arch my thorax forward a little. I found that if I didn't do this, my body often started swinging (not productively) on the bar so much I'd have to stop entirely so that my body could hang straight. Maybe it's a tiny kip but not enough to be disqualified by Guinness.

    Wow! Super impressive. As someone who aspires to do high rep pull ups I have a question regarding form, does Guinness have criteria regarding scapular movement? Ie can they stay depressed the entire time or is complete scapula elevation(dead hang) required, and if not, why let your scapula out of their depressed/retracted position?

    • @ingasimning6615
      @ingasimning6615  Год назад

      That's a very insightful question. Guinness has no criteria regarding scapular movement. Just that your elbows need to lock out. I feel like I generate the greatest force at the lowest part of my pull ups. I purposely hyperextend my shoulders before I start each pull up so that I can really drive them up.

      Interesting, most of the 40+ pullers seem to use your technique, thus creating even more of a compound movement, I find that keeping mine retracted shortens the movement considerably, but it completely eliminates any of the synergy/momentum created by the initial movement of the scapula, something I found I had to do to protect my shoulders after having surgery on both.

    • @ingasimning6615
      @ingasimning6615  Год назад

      @@stephendowney7315 I fully agree. And protecting your shoulders should be a priority for you. Mine have had no problem handling the extra range of motion and excessive forces, but if I ever developed shoulder problems, this would be the first movement to reevaluate!

      20 is really great! You've got to be very strong and fit to do 20. But I bet you're right that you could do more. Hell, I could probably do more too, but at some point the training becomes less fun and it's not worth torturing yourself over. I too hope this record holds a while, because I don't want to have to train this hard again!

BUT, I'm not a physical therapist or a personal trainer, and have zero education in that field. I do not feel qualified to share that type of information just based on my own personal experience. First and foremost, congrats on shattering the previous G world record and setting a new one 💐. I have a question, I've only recently started pulling myself up, but right now I'm not even 1% of where you are. If you could give me some guidance, that would be tremendously appreciated because I truly want to get to your level of greatness. Right now, I can perform seven clean pull-ups with full range of motion in a single set without taking rest days in between. I'll find your advise to be very beneficial. Last but not least, I watch your videos to get motivated before my training seshs, you're truly inspirational 💪🏻.

    • @ingasimning6615
      @ingasimning6615  Год назад +1

      Thank you, that's so great to hear. It sounds like you're doing very well. When you're doing a set of 7, are you going to failure? Or are you stopping when your form starts to fall apart. Make sure your last pull up is truly your last one, it's okay if it's slow and ugly and you have to kick at the end. You're still getting that extra arm/back stimulus that you need to progress. You can do one or even two sets like this every day as long as you're not getting sore or feeling injured.
      How long have you been training pull ups for and how many days a week?

    • @captain_yuri
      @captain_yuri Год назад

      Guru (Teacher in Sanskrit), firstly, please accept my humble obeisances 🙏🏼, I've been training for a month and do it every day. I do 3 sets of 7 pullups for a total of 21 pullups. Rest time between sets is 2-3 minutes or whenever I feel ready to do another set, I try to maintain it between 2 and 3 minutes. So far, with God's grace, I haven't had any muscle soreness. My only issue is that I can't perform another pull up after 7 no matter how hard I try.

    • @ingasimning6615
      @ingasimning6615  Год назад

      @@captain_yuri is 7 the number you started at one month ago or have you seen an increase in your max set after a month of training?

    • @captain_yuri
      @captain_yuri Год назад

      @@ingasimning6615 no, i wasn't able to do 1 properly when i started, in a week's time my no. rose upto 3 and gradually it has come to 7. But, now i feel that i can't go beyond 7.

    • @ingasimning6615
      @ingasimning6615  Год назад +1

      @@captain_yuri you had a ton of progress in one month and it makes sense that your progress would slow down at this point. But I doubt you're done gaining. It's strange to me that you can hit 7 for every set of your 3 sets. I'd think you'd hit 7 on your first set and then a bit less on each of the next two. I would keep doing 2 or 3 failure sets a day for at least two more weeks and expect to hit 8 by then. But gains will slow down and be harder to come by. Good luck!
