Biography:
Vernon Maxwell (born September 12, 1965, in Gainesville, Florida) is a retired American professional basketball player who played in the NBA from 1988-2001, with his longest tenure being with the Houston Rockets. The nickname "Mad Max" was bestowed upon Maxwell by color commentators for his clutch three-point shooting, which reached its pinnacle in the deciding game of the 1994 NBA Finals between Houston and New York. Maxwell is among a handful of players to amass 30 points in a single quarter, accomplishing that feat en route to a 51-point outing January 26, 1991, against Cleveland. Aside from his basketball achievements, he was known for his erratic public behavior and run-ins with the law. On April 8, 2009, he was jailed for violations of his probation and not providing child support As a high school senior, Maxwell was the state of Florida's Mr. Basketball, as well as being an All-State defensive back in football. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 20.2 points as a senior and still holds 15 Gators records. He left school after four years as the Gators' all-time leading scorer (2,450) and the No. 2 scorer in Southeastern Conference history behind Pete Maravich. He averaged more than 20 points in both his junior and senior seasons, although the University of Florida would erase all the points Maxwell scored in those seasons due to Maxwell admitting to taking cash payments from coaches and snorting cocaine prior to at least one tournament game After Florida, Vernon Maxwell's career moved to the NBA. He was a key member of the Houston Rockets' first championship team. Known for his clutch shooting, Vernon Maxwell hit several game-winning shots throughout his career. His defense was tenacious, and he is remembered by many for having kept Michael Jordan significantly below his season scoring averages. Vernon acquired the reputation of being a feisty player. He earned a mention on the Late Show with David Letterman in 1994. Letterman asked his guest, Spike Lee, if there was a similar player on the Rockets who brandished Reggie Miller's manner, to which Spike replied, "Mad Max". During the 1995-1996 campaign with the 76ers, Maxwell contemplated trying out for NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, harkening back to his exemplary exploits on the high school gridiron. Maxwell's last significant contribution in the NBA was during the 1999 playoffs, playing a pivotal role with the underdog Kings in taking Utah to the series limit. 1995: In a game at Portland on February 6, he ran into the stands to punch a fan, later claiming the fan had heckled him over his wife's miscarriage. The NBA suspended him for 10 games and fined him $20,000.
1995: Feigning a hamstring injury, he was given a leave of absence after the 1st game of the playoffs. Maxwell later admitted he was frustrated with not playing; the incident was hyped as Maxwell being disgruntled at the team's recent acquisition of Hall-of-Fame guard Clyde Drexler. His actions led to the Rockets ending his tenure with them
1997: Maxwell was ordered to pay a woman $592,000 for knowingly infecting her with herpes. 2009: Maxwell was arrested in Florida for violation of probation charges related to failing to pay child support.

Mad Max was the Heart and Soul of the 1990's Houston Rockets. Houston will always have love for Mad Max, keep your head up. You gave us a lot of Huge 3's and memories.
+James Freeman I'll say he was the soul but Olajuwon was the heart. Two different things there.
Mytown Trill Heart is just a pump. Soul is something much, much, much GREATER...
MadMax was the Soul and the spark plug in pivotal stretches but Hakeem was 1 of the Original g.o.a.t of centers in the modern NBA and a MVP candidate for a decade long for the Rockets.
@@user-xx4im2mr7o
It was Dream.
Madmax was an amazing shooting guard!
Amazing and good shooter, he had some good games, but he did had some bad games too.
Right on !!
Dude was a badass.
Now he's a dumbass.
Wis Dom lmao
And you are? ?
Black7od
He still is. Follow him on Twitter.
Maxwell was the type of player you need to win don’t give a fuck about nothin on the floor but winning
sick music
Sick as in bad health.
He😂 baby vernon maxwell show respect from Florida state.
Mos Def. Growing up in Houston in the 90's Mad Max was the Man!! Much Love to You Bro for helping to bring this City it's first world championship.
The first world championship he sure did brought it here to Houston. He was good
The man drove a purple 911 Porsche around Houston....SWAG!!
Jordan did average 30 on him. No denying that. But let's not sit here & act like Mad Max let him walk to the basket all night. He's one of the few players of his era who genuinely didn't give a fuck on the court. He backed down from no one & had no problem coming at anyone when he was on the floor. MJ knew every time he faced him, he was gonna have a long night ahead of him. And to his credit, being the great player & competitor he is, he went out there & handled his business.
Glad to head he's doing ok and sorted his life out. He's one of those guys where stats didn't tell the story about him.....he was fearless.
where is someone like him on the all time list?
What an amazing NBA athlete!!!
Good nba player with the rockets.
Thanx!
amazing dude!!!
Wow!!!
Also a good video to see how good a passer Olajuwon was.
In the 90s, Olajuwon learned how to pass. He started to be a good passer.
Like JR Rider, this guy had the tools to be an All Star but the attitude killed off any of those chances...very talented guy!
He was never an all-star, but he was good at basketball.
Amazing the Rockets just simply bought his contract from the Spurs. Maxwell, Horry, Cassell, and Elie all had great swag as role players.
I love the way he sets his shot
favorite all-time player
Great 90's player...one of the most cold blooded in the league ever !
Missing all the best stuff lol
I know but I couldn't find nice material abou it ...
mad max was great shooter
Wouldve been a good matchup if Bulls and rockets played in 90's finals.
It almost happen in 93, but Kenny Smith 3 pointer missed at the buzzer.
It would of gone to 7 games for sure.
Gator!
Vernon Maxwell was no joke. Vernon Maxwell kind of reminds me of the Jet Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks. Both players are really streaky from the outside and can slash to the hoop anytime they want. The only difference is that Vernon Maxwell won a championship with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and Jason Terry is still searching for his first ever championship ring which he could possibly win anytime soon.
MadMax was more like John starks overall .streakyshooter, undersized sg feisty on defense against bigger opponents and both were athletic great at slashing starks more of a dunker,,,On the other hand Jason Terry was more of a jumpshooter and consistent and a shoot 1st point guard and played more smooth with pace and poise
Mad Max!
MadMax had way more highlights of him dunking and catching alley oosp in his Rockets era that better shows his overall ability but they held back in this video some where it shows blow by layups in the lane and spot up 3s that were big shots but thy left out some of his dunks that sparked the crowd
Wow I don't remember that shot 2:03
Hey Man why you stopped dropping content ? You were one of the first out here.
Man, NO dunks? I loved watching him and Elie get up and throw down.
Right Maxwell was catching alley oop 2handed dunks his 1st few yrs in Houston ,
100,000 dollar championship player. The a little off his rocker fearless player we needed. Mad Max. Wish he would have played with Clyde and THorpe would have come back.
Damn everyone has a highlight reel now. These look like they were taken from just four or five games.
Most of them highlights were some of his weakest ones despite some of them being buzzer beaters or pivotal layups that were game tying shots.
MJ's worst nightmare
the only thing i need to say is "Classic"!!!
yes michael was great give gp and maxwell credit.they were good players in their own right and did win some games from the bulls
Some? they won more than the bulls did back during that era.
Um, your crazy dude. I grew up watching Max and Jordan go at it. Max always kept Jordan at bay and was the closest player in history to shut him down. He was by far Jordan's least fave player to go up against, defense wise...
Mad Max...H Town!!!
great left back who made a big career at ajax, inter barcelona and psg
I play with this dudes son in my neighborhood... he's really really good.
gp and maxwell,i admired those guys, great offense and defense. both stood up to michael jordan, impressive. both had some success against the bulls.
Maxwell wasn't afraid of Jordan. He did good against Jordan.
What is the instrumental used in the video?
@demoneye0810 I read someware that MJ said how Maxwell with the way he played always had his numbers . Hakeem had nothing to do with that , MJ's bad fg percentage was becouse of his outside shoots when Maxwell was guarding him , i saw a few of those games . And the only reason MJ had bad instead of catastrophic fg percentage against Maxwell was becouse of an easy dunks when Maxwell was not guarding him . (From what i have seen ) .
He's kids are so beautiful. :) no bragging
Streaky shooter, but when he was on...
Me and his sone brandon are buds :D
I know they use to get him & jordan confuse
i have sold rocks to him
@CarolinasPGApro That's good to hear because in Houston he was a knucklehead. We loved Maxwell in Houston in the 90's but the problem was the bravado and attitude he had on the court he brought off the court and it didn't mesh to well with everyday society. I still wish I could find a Vernon Maxwell jersey though.
the anger would drive this dude
@demoneye0810 Look for the stats from 91', 92' , 93' season Bulls vs Rockets . Michael in average had very bad fg percentage against Maxwell . The bulls lost 5 of 6 games against Houston in those three seasons . I do know what i'm talkin about and Maxwell could guard him better then Dumars .
NOW Look at discription...
One time Maverick.
nice mix but you should also have added some defensive plays on Jordan , after all he is the only guy who could stop Jordan for scoring at will .
@molonlave2010 Despite his fake hamstring injury after Game 1 of the opening playoff round that really turned out to be him being disgruntled from lack of playing time because of Drexler's presence, the team agreed he deserved a ring since he played the entire season, thus contributing to the Rockets being in the playoffs in the first place.
Maxwell quit after the first game because he felt like he let the team down when he missed the game-winning shot. Then, he got his bags and left the team for good.
@TheKingMisiek Nice...What is that beat you used?
HOF
@garioldwin Joe Dumars?
He lives in NC now. I know the guy he lives in Ballintine outside of charlotte. i wish you would haveput the fight on there when he slapped that fan for talkin bout his wife.
Nobody could shut down MJ. He has the highest career scoring avg in NBA History.
where is this guy nowdays?
II charlotte nc I play with his son in aau
fraerot area 21
MJ still avg 30 against him so shit down!
Bitch madmax still beat his ass tho
@TheKingMisiek I think this song is wrong. I cant find it anywhere on youtube. :(
"Guts-come closer" song
he resembles Thomas Jones the football player
Maybe more so Vernon's son that played college basketball Brandon Maxwell and Thomas Jones really do resemble alot.
In the Info: "Maxwell was ordered to pay a woman $592,000 for knowingly infecting her with herpes"..................thats not cool at all lol.....
Except for Mad Max.
Go to school with his sun Brandon Maxwell !
MJ did avg 30 against him. Go to basketball reference and you will find out. Nobody could shut down MJ. That is why he has the highest career scoring avg in NBA History.
Joe Dumars.
Vernon Maxwell > mj
@demoneye0810 Thats just not thrue i have also seen it and Jordan was not double teamed against Houston . I have told you what i have seen and with proof (stats ) , if you dont agree ok , i still think max was the best against jordan . I'm not much of a maxwells fan i'm just being realistic .
